Countryway Golf Club
About
Countryway Golf Club is an executive golf course that is known for its extremely affordable rates. Situated in the heart of Westchase, it is considered one of the best values in Tampa Bay. The layout consists of eleven par-3 holes and seven par 4s. The golf course is challenging enough for more advanced golfers but it is still player-friendly enough for beginners to enjoy. The rolling terrain provides undulations in both the greens and fairways. The hills also make for some challenging putts. There is no shortage of water at Countryway Golf Club with hazards coming into play on 14 holes. There are also bunkers strategically placed throughout.

Not friendly to Canadians
The players we've been paired with have been great. I was warned by a staff member that the Canadians would be coming soon and they would book up blocks of time, and it's either their way or nothing. Guess they don't like the business. I even told him I was from Canada and he didn't flinch. We love the course but someone threw something sticky all over our vehicle in the parking lot while we played our last round on Dec 4. Can't help but think our Ontario plates mighta had something to do with it. Too bad. We'll still be back, cuz the course is good and the players are great. But when the staff openly bad mouth the course visitors to the club regulars there's no surprise that bad things happen.
Nice course and experience
I've played this course four times now and it's fun. I started learning to play about 12 years ago and played enough to the point I was scoring in the 90's and occasional high-to-mid 80's. After not playing for seven or eight years, this has been a good way to reintroduce myself to the game.
This course is great for such a re-entry or for those just learning. If you are a more seasoned player, this course is great for sharpening up the short game with some challenging holes, narrow shots and water and sand hazzards to keep you sharp. There are just enough par 4 holes, (seven) to hold your interest and to allow you to stretch it out a little bit. Holes 3 and 9 are pretty straight and driveable or near driveable. Hole 5 is driveable for most decent hitters from the white, but there's a dogleg and you have to carry the water on the right and sand traps on the left.
Holes 13, 15 and 17 are pretty straight, and mostly dry, driveable par four holes. 14 will challenge you to hit over water twice onto a tucked away green that's gaurded pretty well by trees and a big deep sand trap.
Overall, it's a fun course that you can play in two and a half hours when it's not too crowded. It's taken me as long as three and a half, almost four to play one Sunday.
The clientele drawn to this neighborhood course includes a broad cross section of the population. I've encountered father's and their very young sons spending quality time together as well as groups of high school boys out shooting the you know what on Saturday afternoon. I've been paired with a 70-ish year old retiree who plays there regulalry. She was a delight to play with and get to know. I've gone by myself each time and have mostly been invited to join a group or to play through. Once or twice there's been a standoff-ish couple of guys that just puttered and puttered around and didn't ask me to join nor to play through. Needless to say, you'll find the competitive, intense 25-40 year old young men who are a bit more serious that most everybody else. And of course, there's the cute boyfriend-girlfriend or husband-wife couple that's out enjoying a couple of hours as he plays, mostly, while she enjoys the ride. There really is a broad representation of the community that I've bumped into here, which I really like.
There's a nice sized putting surface and a chipping area, but no driving range. The staff inside checking you in are always nice and the grill and snack bar area staff have excellent customer service and they give you cups of ice water and popcorn. Be careful with the popcorn or any snack. There's an abundance of wildlife, especially birds all around, and they love the snacks as much as we do.
I highly recommend Countrway, especially for the novice, up to really good players. The low handicappers might not be challenged as much as some other professional level courses, but there's plenty of opportunity for the advanced golfer to sharpen her or his skills.
League player with over 200 rounds played on this course
This golf course seems to have consistent play daily most of the year. Not enough dollars being spent on golf course maintenance. As far as maintenance crew very minimal.
Lots of short game skill needed!
Love the course, was my 2nd time ever playing there! It was more crowds as usual, but the course is beautiful and lots and lots of fun! Great, GREAT deal for the price! Great place to work on your short game!
Tight Greens and lay up shot
Be prepared for the tight greens and lay up shots. The greens are small and tight. The greens are a bit worn as previous players are not mindful of fixing divots. The greens do tend to play a bit slower than use to playing. In the event that you lay up in the roughs you should have your sights on playing your shots low to avoid the branch over hanging while battling the rough grass. Overall enjoyable experience for the money.
Call Ahead Regarding Tee Time
2:20 tee time. Sat in line behind 3 foursomes for nearly an hour before teeing off. Starter said they got a rush of players but I thought that’s why you make a tee time. Same thing at hole 2 and on. Played 9 holes. Paid for 18. Hoping an off day given holiday weekend. Never had this happen before.
Greens and fairway immaculate
I golf all around Tampa st Pete area, and these greens and fairways were super nice. Little overbooked and slow pace but overall good day
Slow
Horrible pace of play. We were the last tee time out due to a tournament starting and it took us nearly 4 hours on an executive course. The ranger had the nerve to yell at us for hitting two balls when we were waiting 10+ mins each hole for the groups ahead of us. Awful.
Great budget course
Surprise nice big golf course tucked in the middle of westchase. I was surprised to only pay 20 dollars to play. Course has a nice layout. Some challenging but some shorter holes as well. For the quality of the golf course, you easily would pay 40 plus to play.
The only minor observations, you will most likely pair up with someone you don’t know to play as a group of 3 if you are going solo or 2 people. The pavement to drive on is narrow and concrete can use some repair.
Work in progress
A lot is being done n the course is looking much better I only wish more people would repair their ballmarks on the greens I find myself repairing others ballmarks. Management is doing a good job on the fairways. Maybe 90 degree rule would help keep in good shape.
Pace of play is too slow
4.5 hours for an executive par 3 course is way too slow. Tee times are too tight for an enjoyable round. You need a small bucket of balls between shots to stay loose. Greens were thicker than most fairways. They should blow it up and make it a regulation course with 12 holes. They have a nice layout.
Great value.
Great skills course
Excellent for all levels.
Lots of challenge if u play from blue tees
Very laid back environment
Makes you think!
