Rating 72.9

The Boulders Golf Club & Resort complex features two outstanding 18-hole courses. Both courses are very well maintained, and the scenery is incredible. Boulder's South Course is exactly the type of desert course people come to the Phoenix-Scottsdale resort corridor to play. A round of golf on the South kicks off on the par-4 first hole, which measures 421 yards from the blue tees, which is quickly followed by a short par 3, measuring 150 yards from the blue tees. Things get long on the fifth hole, a 545-yard par 5, which is just a warm-up for the 11th hole, a par 5 that measures 601 yards from the blue tees. It doesn't get much easier to finish: The 18th is a par 5 that measures 513 yards from the blue tees.

Love it!

The facilities are fantastic! Played the South course. Great layout, in very good condition, with spectacular views of rock formations all around. Large range with nice grass and plenty of balls. Separate chipping & putting greens. 1st time playing here. The greens are very firm, bent grass. Hard to adjust to, based on other courses I played recently in the Scottsdale area. Very challenging holes with some blind shots. I hope to play this again, as I'll be more prepared for shot selection and greens.

played the south because that is the only option - some genius in management decided there would be no more alternative course offerings and people are not happy.

Huge Disappointment

I used to love this property but unfortunately it is in horrible shape. The greens are painted, not over seeded like most courses in the area.. I would be ok with the painted greens if the surface was smooth and in good shape. They were not. The starter was almost embarrassed to try to explain what happened with the greens. His explanation didn’t make sense. Ok, so they totally lost the greens and had to paint them. You would expect the rates to be in line with the course quality. Nope!! $476 per person including taxes. I would not have paid $100 to play this course had I known the condition. If I could give zeros, I would have. Play another course. Period!

Beautiful course

Great course. Very difficult with tight faiways and same greens.. Greens are fast and the views are awesome. The greens were not in the best conditions as they had mixed grasses growing on them which caused the ball to play plinkco due to them being so fast. The ball would get knocked offline when it would hit a patch of the different grass. Would not pay full price because of this. Once they fix that, I would recommend for sure.

Boulders South Challenging

This is a very unique and difficult course to play. While I didn't lose any balls, the fellows I played with lost many. You must be pretty target accurate. I actually got lost as to where I was on the course as it weaves and wanders around the boulders. So beautiful and interesting but not easy to score well. The one thing that was really disappointing was the condition of the greens. Apparently they didn't treat the cauliflower type grass early enough and so the putting became very frustrating and tough to stay on your line. I am sure over the next few weeks it will get better but yesterday wasn't fun to putt.

Challenging layout

Everything was great except the condition of the greens. They were patchy and the ball didn’t roll on line.

Could be the most scenic golf course in the world. Definitely a challenging one. The waste areas are thick with bush and cacti so keep it on the grass or bring a few extra balls if you spray it everywhere like me lol. It’s absolutely gorgeous. Service is excellent. Drink and food prices a bit on the high side compared to other courses we played with similar green fees, but not something I would really complain about considering the surroundings. We played the south course, which unfortunately does not have a halfway house, but the beverage cart made it to us 4 times on our round so we didn’t have to go without anything. Pace of play was average, 4:10 for us, and we are slow with two ladies and myself all being higher handicap golfers, we still had to wait at a couple tee boxes. This was also not a complaint for us as it was only a one shot wait. Some faster golfers might feel differently, but to me 4 hours is a pretty decent pace.
I would come back to Phoenix just to golf here again.

The golf is great .......but

What a fun golf course. True risk and reward. Wonderfully fast and true greens. I think that the sand is the most difficult part of the course. Thick and fluffy. I just don't have anything to compare it to.
Now let's talk about the but. The cart girl came by and I ordered two beers and a water. $35. But of course that includes taxes and gratuity. $15 a beer. I was going to stop at the grill for a couple of beers and their smoked pastrami Reuben. I passed because I couldn't imagine what they were going to charge for that.
Anyway, the course is in great shape and is a blast to play.

Avoid

There are better courses you can play for 250$.
Greens were horrible as previous bent grass is growing through the tif-eagle. Tee boxes were beat up like a poorly run muni. Played about 10 years ago and it wasn't much better. I don't know who reviews these courses. They may be reviewing the resort and may only look at the course.

Great Course but wow Greens are unrealistic

Played Boulders before and love the layout. Tight but fair. Would have rated it better but the greens at this time of year are borderline unplayable. Unlike most quality courses in this region where everything is over seeded including greens, Boulders seems to have a different grass on the greens. Its almost like its dormant. Rolls very well but rock hard and about 12 on the stimp if not more. The design of the course makes this very challenging to navigate. Took away from the enjoyment to some degree. You may love this but we felt it was a little unfair.

Better courses for less money in the area

The course was nice but the greens are terrible
They have two courses; guest play the south course which is average for the area ; the north course greens are immaculate. Try the ritz Carlton at dove mountain in Tucson. $100 less and far better condition
We played it and it was championship caliber

Still an awesome course

Played this course for the first time since 2018, and it is still fantastic and a blast to play, not to mention beautiful!

Regular prices have gone way up, but the occasional hot deals are reasonable for a Scottsdale area golf of this caliber, and everything is included.

Nice pace throughout and friendly staff, course was in great condition, except the greens which were burnt out; putts were still fast and true, but approach shots could not bite at all, making them less pleasant than other courses in the area.

Boulders South--Updated Info

Recent reviews about long rounds were concerning, however, South is OFF cart path only and a marshall was on hand. 4.5 hr round which is expected given distances between tees, etc. All good!

Great Day, Great Course

The surroundings were beautiful. The course was in great shape. Fast greens. Hard to read. The course is extremely challenging, because your tee shot is either in the fairway or out of play. Not much in between.
