Sonoma Golf Club

About
Opened in 1928, Sonoma Golf Club was designed by Sam Whiting and Willie Watson, who also did the Lake Course at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. At just under 7,100 yards, Sonoma G.C. provides a nice mixture of long and short holes over a parkland course with views of the surrounding wine country.

Great Break from Wine Tasting
I had the pleasure of playing the Sonoma Golf Club this past weekend while visiting the Sonoma Valley. We stayed at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn which has privileges at the course, and I believe the only way for a non-member to play.
We made our tee time through the concierge at the hotel and there was some mix-up because we wanted to tee off early and we understood we had a 7:30 tee time when the course had us down for 8:30. The staff was very accommodating and was able to get us out first which enabled us to get around in about 3:30 with no one in front of us.
The course was in perfect condition and these were some of the best greens I have ever played on. The sand was consistent, brutal around the greens and hittable from the fairways. The shot of the day was getting the ball to within 5 feet from a fairway bunker about 145 out (I missed the putt).
The 17th reminded me of 'The Postage Stamp' at Troon given how protected it is.
A little pricey at $225 but worth it given the convenience and quality and you'd easily be spending more than that during three hours of wine tasting.
