Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club - Copperhead Course

About
A longtime favorite among PGA Tour pros, Innisbrook's Copperhead course is the most recognizable of the resort's four courses. After all, it plays host to the world's greatest golfers during the tour's visit to the resort each spring.
Paul Azinger, a 12-time winner on the PGA Tour and Captain of the 2008 U.S. Ryder Cup Team, has called Copperhead "the best course we play on tour."
Meanwhile, Stewart Cink, a four-time PGA Tour winner and two-time Ryder Cup Team member said, "This course could host a U.S. Open."
Tree-lined fairways and rolling terrain define Innisbrook's most famed course - a lengthy challenge for even the longest hitters at more than 7,200 yards. Striking in beauty and challenge, Copperhead is characteristic of a Carolina layout with dramatic elevation changes and tall, stately pines. Here you will find a truly breathtaking experience from tee to green.

Worst cart boy staff
Don’t think I’ve ever seen cart boys who hate their job more than at the island course at innisbrook. No help, unfriendly and lazy. One guy had little man syndrome. Didn’t offer to clean clubs or help direct us to where to go to parking lot. How can you be a golf resort and hire people like this. They need new jobs asap
You would never know this was a stop on the PGA Tour with the mediocre course conditions. Fairways were long and greens were slow. Played here 2 years ago and it was beautiful. Was expecting the same and was let down.
Awesome!!
Wow!!! First time playing Copperhead. Had high expectations and every expectation was exceeded. Friendly staff, great conditions, great accommodations, etc… We will be back!!!
Innisbrook Copperhead - Crown Jewel
PGA Valspar course designed by Larry Packard is not only a well maintained course, it is one with nature and pristine. Challenging holes for sure, but it's worth the time and effort. Food at Salamander Grille is amazing, you won't be dissapointed.
Dry With lots of bare spots
The rate was discounted to below $100 but the course was nowhere near the condition it should be in. I genuinely love the layout of the course - it’s one of my favorites in the area. But the conditions, except for the greens, were terrible. Large bare spots on the tee boxes and the fairways. Just off the green, you were chipping from dirt.
I understand the COVID situation caused some disruption, but my God, put some water on the course, at least.
Called on a whim once it was announced the Valspar was canceled to see if the course was open. To my surprise it was and we wound up playing it on Sunday afternoon before tournament week. What a treat to play a track in Tour conditions with all of the infrastructure in place.
Packard isn’t a famous name on the course design spectrum, but he is very underrated in my opinion after playing Copperhead. The course is very demanding off the tee, particularly when the rough is up like I it was today. If you miss the fairway by a yard, you might as well have missed it by 15. Also difficult to judge how balls will come out of the rough around the greens.
Greens are fair, with not a ton of slope in them. Very grainy.
Opening stretch, particularly holes 2 and 3 are very demanding to start your round. The back nine is tough, but fair. Good shots will be rewarded.i really like the par 3s every other hole beginning at 13. The Snake Pit is, well, the Snake Pit. Other than the tee shot at 16, it isn’t too lethal.
My favorite holes were the par-5 fifth, par-4 12th and par-5 14th.
Bottom line: You can’t overpower this golf course. Look at the list of winners here, and it is easy to see what the formula is to get around here: Fairways and greens, and avoid the rough.
Awesome layout
Outstanding! From the resort staff to maintenance personell! The golf course is a gem 18 unique holes impeccably cared for. Greens we're perfect if a bit slow, but no biggie. Great track!
Classic Course - Not as hard as I thought it would be.
Had a great afternoon playing Copperhead, home of the Valspar. I have attended the tournament a couple of times and it is always fun to "play where the pros play", as they say.
I played from the gold tees, about 5,700 yds with a 131 slope rating. That is a little higher than I am used to, more the slope than the yards, and I was worried about a 100+round (I'm a 25), as that usually happens at TPC Sawgrass regardless of the teebox.
I was surprised that the course was not that hard for me, I shot 87 playing the best irons I have in a long time. So hit it straight and there is no problem!
We were paired with a twosome from Minnesota and one of the guys was pretty bad, so the round taking 4:20 was partly our fault. We did catch the group ahead of us on 15, and they finished just a bit in front of us timewise.
Fairways were a little patchy in places, but otherwise the course was pretty immaculate.
The greens were very fast and a little hard to read, but generally I'd say they were true and a pleasure to putt. I had a couple three putts from 40+ feet, and one that was totally my fault from about 20 ft.
Overall, I really don't feel the course is all that special but it is very nice, and of course you've seen these holes on TV (there are only a couple I remembered from the past - so I don't find it that memorable.
Worth the price once, unless you are wealthy!
One more thing - I had booked 2 months ago and was told the price was $269, but only $159 on the Osprey North course. So I booked a 1:18 tee time on that course. Then last week my wife got our hotel for the 2 nights before at Seminole HR comped, so I decided to pay up for Copperhead.
It was then that I found out that Copperhead rates went down at 1:30, and was surprised to be able to book 1:40 at $155+tx. Snapped it up but was a little miffed that this wasn't offered to me at the time of my original booking.
Awesome experience
The course was excellent and lived up to its billing
Easy to see why the pros love it
I always find it a treat to play courses that host big-time golf tournaments, and for putting oneself in the shoes of the best golfers in the world, there are few more fitting venues than the Copperhead. It is the consummate "ball-striker's paradise," where a significant mix of power and accuracy are essential for survival. If you can hit fairways and greens here, you can score a little bit, but with the narrow landing areas and tough rough, any looks at birdie will have been hard earned. It's a great diagnostic for any golfer's game.

Expensive But Worth It
Our group of 8 guys play the Copperhead Course each fall as part of a week of golf. Copperhead remains on our list of "must play" courses.
The day before we played Copperhead, we played the Island Course at Innisbrook. People say the two courses are comparable.
They are alike in difficulty. Neither course is easy. The Island Course is the more difficult of the two.
Conditions between the two courses varies greatly. Copperhead is in exceptional condition. From tees to the greens, we were not disappointed. The bunkers were raked, the greens were fast, and the fairways were wonderful. The ball sat up nicely in the fairways.
Conditions at the Island Course were much different. The greens were just as nice as Copperhead's. After that, the changes were quite appearant. The grass on the tees was more sparse. The fairways were brown and had barren areas. The bunkers were not raked.
If you're going to spend big dollars to play Innisbrook, play Copperhead.
copperhead
really simple folks...if its good enough for the guys on tour its definitely good enough for the rest of us! lol
of course innisbrook cant keep tournament conditions on this course for the entire year...but it was in really good shape. layout extremely challenging yet fair..good shots are rewarded..wayward shots are penalized..plain and simple. you couple the layout of this course with the amenities of innisbrook and its a no brainer. PLAY IT!! but play the proper tees
Couldn't ask for more
Darrell in the pro shop and Fred the starter were extremely accommodating. They provided excellent customer service. I really had a great experience and look forward to returning in the future. Keep up the good work.
Not What I Expected
First of all let me say right up front, we had a great time and the service was over the top. Our room was perfect, quiet, and overlooked the Island Course.
However the conditions of the Copperhead Course was far less than I expected. The greens were hard, and the green surrounds were bare in areas and overgrown on others. The rough was deep in com areas and others not as much. Many weeds and the bunkers were very bad, maybe not as bad as the Island Course, but bad. I thought the course conditions would be pristine, but not so, just the average course. Certainly nothing special.
Copperhead Best in Tampa Area that You can Play
As they say, "play where the pros play." If it wasn't for its place in the schedule they would probably get all the best players as this is and excellent challenging course. Often forget that you are in south FLA with the pines, lakes and elevation changes.
This course challenges every part of your game. You need all the shots as well some strategy.
Conditioning has been an issue the last few years as the reseeded to whole course and had some bad breaks with the weather. But things should be much improved this season and going forward. Can't wait to get back there.
Better than ever and ready for the PGA Tour
Having never played this course before a recent restoration that included new greens, new irrigation and bunker renovations, I really can't compare it to the old. But I can certainly understand why the PGA Tour players list this among their favorite courses. It rewards good shot-making, plain and simple. And the design, though it's less than 50 years old, is certainly classic. The finishing stretch -- the Snakepit -- is certainly memorable and challenging. And with a a few hills, bends and strategically placed water hazards, it never gets boring.
Must-Play Course and the best of the Innisbrook resort courses!
Copperhead recently re-opened after a full restoration of the course and it did not disappoint. The course layout is almost exactly the same but the course is in pristine condition right now. The greens are a bit slow on some holes but thats normal as they are new and its hard to cut down as they come in. The course itself is challenging but very fair. The greens are fairly large so GIR isn't as relative. The scenery surrounding the course is pretty amazing as its surprisingly hilly and the elevation changes/tall pines can make it feel like the carolinas which is nice in a very flat area of florida. The practice area and driving range has plenty of space to fine-tune your game. The copperhead course is the best course of the Innisbrook resort and is a must-play when in the Tampa/Palm Harbor area especially considering its an annual PGA Tour stop. The other courses here are nice but this is the one you should look forward to playing!
What's the best way to get a tee time at any of the Innisbrook courses?
