Fun course
Bogey golfer. Course is in port royal and very close to Westin. Short and tight. Greens were soft at the time. First tee time out and had to navigate the keeps. Great shape overall and would play again.
Save your Money
Course was very dry. Bunkers had not been raked and it was like hitting on a cement sidewalk. The greens looked like they had been severely mistreated. Would not recommend or play this course again. Very disappointed.
Fairly standard Hilton Head resort course
Robbers Row was fine. Played on a late Sunday PM with my son and his friend, who are new golfers. We were basically alone, which was perfect.
Fairways and greens both in good conditions, greens not very fast but probably cut longer for summer heat. Like most Hilton Head courses, it’s not long but very tight. My son donated a lot of golf balls to the surrounding area.
I marked the course down because the bunkers weren’t playable…basically hard pan concrete, which defeats the purpose. Definite area where course could improve.
Back 9 more memorable than front, with 2 strong par 4s to start and a good par 5 with tee shot over marsh that was memorable.
Staff was friendly and relaxed, befitting late afternoon holiday weekend. I appreciate them.
Robber row is great
Friendly staff, free range balls and nice practice area. Course was empty and was able to play in under 3 hours. Sweat.
Robbers Row
It was the first time I played this courses and probably the last. The course itself was in good condition and gave some challenge on certain shots. Upon arrival we had found out it was cart path only, which given the weather conditions we had the night before I wasn't surprised. With that being said I knew that would slow pace of play down just a bit. When the rangers had came around to check on the course they were extremely rude on the way they spoke to us and how they handled the situation of telling us about the pace which was not far from regular pace. Take it for what it is, we personally were turned off by that experience and will not return to this course.
Staff not friendly
I booked on line and paid on line. The staff found my booking but I still had to pull up confirmation email that I booked and paid on line. What if I deleted my email. This is a hassle that could be avoided. The staff requested that I find the confirmation email in order for me and my guest to play. My tee time was at 3 pm on 8/10/23.I booked on 8/4/23.
Greens status
The greens need work as the ball would take different bounces. Seem just aerate
Enjoyable even with the heat
Second time I’ve played here and was an enjoyable round . The conditions weren’t the best with the heat and the greens were punched but they discounted the round with an aeration special so that was nice. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Overall, I had a good time.
Great golf Course
What a great course to play! Greens were awesome and the layout was good. My only complaint is that we did not know that we would be nowhere near the clubhouse to stop after 9 holes and get water, refill drinks, etc and take a short break. It is a great course, but for a hot day in July we needed a mid course break. (The 9th hole is very far from clubhouse and because it was not a busy time of day the cart person was not out and about after 5th hole.)
Robbers Row and Barony
We were scheduled for RRbut starter mentioned the greens had just been aerated. He said we could go off in Barony. Nice course, wide fairways, small greens. We were behind 4 young guys, 2 of which had clearly never played so it was really slow. They had to wait at times also. Ranger came by and was apologetic but said there were people on every hole.
Finally passed them in 7. Started back but there were 3 groups on 11. Ranger came by and said RR was pretty empty so we could head over there and play as many holes as we liked. We played the front nine, similarly nice course except for the aerated greens. Courses pretty open in HH in the afternoon due to the heat.
Nice courses, nice people.
Only exception is the woman in the pro shop who seems to think she owns the place. Very efficient but robotic. Talks about “my staff”. We left something in the cart, called and someone nicely said he had it and would put in room in the pro shop. Of course she said nothing could be there, but cart guys ( “my” staff) didn’t have it. Back to pro shop where she insisted it wasn’t there, but took my name. Meanwhile here assistant took a second, looked in back room and found it. Front desk queen said there needs to be better communication. Yikes.
It would have been helpful if we would have known that the greens had just been aereated. Not a good putting surface.
Great value for the Birdie&Brew price
I thought the course was great for the $75. Some rough patches around the greens, but they seemed to roll true once you were on. Some of the tee boxes were a little patchy, but that to be expected in the middle of July. The starter was helpful, and the guy in the pro shop was great!
I think I would go back for the $75 price but if I had to pay the ~$130 regular price, I would rather go to the Robert Trent Jones or George Fazio course imo… they just are in better condition.
No Robbery Here
A very playable course of the Low Country fashion. Lots of sand, water, trees, etc. All in great shape, except the greens were slow. Course does not start near the clubhouse or return after 9 so stock up. Interesting historical markers around the course. Learned "Robber's Row" was unofficial name of the main street thru the Civil War camp there (9, 10 fairways) with various hustlers trying to get into the soldiers' pockets. Great practice area with dual pitching greens. No starter in PM but no worries. *Not sure if he was 'on staff' but a pro (?) acted like the pitching area was his alone. Would play again and recommend.
Thank you for your review and rating. We're sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your experience at Port Royal Golf & Racquet Club. As you mentioned, some of our bunkers on Barony were washed out due to tropical storm Idalia. Our golf course maintenance team is in the process of reconditioning them this week. Hope you'll give us another try when you have an opportunity.
