This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.
Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.
There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

Stay away
Worst course ever. Should not even be open. Weeds in the sand traps, no grass on fairways, greens looked like a bomb went off on them, couldn’t even putt.
Wouldn’t call this a golf course
This course was so bad that you couldn’t pay me to play it again. What a waste of time and money. It was in such poor conditions that I would not have believed it if I had not seen it first hand. The fairways were dirt, the greens were brown and had holes on therm., the bunkers had weeds growing in them. That tells me they have not been raked for a long time. This was not just a few holes it was every hole on the course. We didn’t even finish the round we were so discussed. We were visiting from out of town and I was in charge of tee times. I was embarrassed that I chose this course. You should not allow the pics and the miss representation of this course. I should have canceled but with the rules I would not have been charged for the round anyway. I don’t think I will be using Golf Now in the future.
Enjoyed coming back!
It has been over 2 years since we were able to travel back to this Golf course & enjoyed every hole! The staff was friendly & let us get an early start to beat the heat. As a retired couple, we received good value to play at a reasonable rate. Thanks for a great day!
Fair course and value
Course conditions were rough but an ok value for the money. Poor condition if you are comparing to other courses we played.
Needs a Little TLC
I teed off at 6:40 and had the course to myself. The greens were in fair shape but freshly watered, so a bit slow. Most of the fairways were in good shape. The course is a lot of fun, and it's hard to find a morning tee time for less than $75. You can play better courses if you want "Sauna Times" (11:30 or later, where it's hot as a sauna).
Aweful
If you’re good or bad, it’s not worth it. They should sell the one to a course developer and create a real golf course.
Good value
The course has a low maintenance budget so it's not all pretty and manicured. Price makes it good place to practice without the pressure of someone coming up behind. Play 2 balls anytime.
Staff was great supplied ice and exchanged our cart at the turn due to alignment problem
Playable Old Style Course
Fun to play, but obviously has seen better days. Good for locals and resident members to play. Good for visitors wanting an economical round of golf.
In good shape, except...
I played solo as my buddy's flight down turned into an all- nighter. Hardly anyone there at 6:30, so Iit was a quick round (3 hours). The fairways we're surprisingly fast and the greens were pretty accessible but rolled consistently. My biggest issue was there were more weeds in the traps than sand. Other than that, an enjoyable time in the morning sun.
Ghost town
For a Saturday morning the course and facility was like a ghost town. There was no one around until we came into the pro shop where a nice lady attended us. I made a joke about it being so quite and she said the heat was the reason. The day was beautiful but I get it’s the desert. We went out with no starter, no F&B services on the course or at the turn. Felt like we where on our own the entire time. The greens where great but it’s obvious the course and carts, services need some tlc. Overall we made the best of our day but could of been so much better with some amenities and attentive service.
Challenging but very fair. Greens were in good shape.
Course needs work
It’s been 3years since playing and still abridge is out come on get it fixed
Greens and fairways need work lots of dead grass spots
Redeemed
I played this course several years ago and it was in terrible condition, and I never returned - until now. Overall, I was quite impressed with how it has been improved. Fairways were not very smooth in some areas (uneven, holes, lumps) and most tee markers needed to be moved due to excessive divots. However, the layout is interesting with many fairways split by dry creek beds, and the par 3's are "old school" long (unlike your typical 120 yd resort course). The greens are very good. Also, the fairways and chipping areas actually have nice turf and are much more playable than the hard pan that is not uncommon here in the desert, but the greenside bunkers seem to be more dirt than sand. The rough and out-of-play areas are not aesthetically pleasing however, and I managed to lose a few balls that should have been in plain sight! However, if you can overlook the lacking visual appeal, I think you'll find the course very enjoyable and an interesting challenge for sure. Trevor seems to care a lot and I believe they're doing a good job with what they have. For the price, I say go give it a try!
Good deal for the price.
Good deal for the $. Course was quiet, not rushed. Fairways were ok, greens were good. Rough was brutal - taller grass or weeds or wash
No real facilities for food or bzzr.
But, I’d go again for the value
