High Meadow Ranch Golf Club

About
The golf Upscale and daily-fee, High Meadow Ranch was designed by PGA Tour pro David Ogrin in cahoots with Nugent Golf Associates as part of a housing development. Tipping out at over 7,400 yards, the course plays to a par 72 and rolls through some intriguing hardwood terrain that's highlighted by several natural ravines. The course is routed in three 6-hole "loops," each offering different golf experiences.
The oak-laden Forest loop routes over the ravines, which come into play on 5 of the 6 holes. The Pine Barrens loop, lined by majestic pines, features generous fairways, native grass areas, and large greens. And fittingly, the Signature loop is the perfect combination of the first two, offering a more dramatic stretch of holes. The highlight is the signature No. 18. This memorable ender plays 440 yards into a green fronted by a creek and protected by an 8-foot rock wall, meaning that a huge drive is necessary to avoid an impossible carry on the approach.
Getting there : The course is located 40 miles northwest of Houston between Tomball and Magnolia. Drive north of Beltway 8 on Hwy. 249. Five miles north of Tomball, Hwy. 249 becomes FM 1774. The club is on the left.

High Meadows Ranch found my range finder and labeled it with my name. It was a $600 range finder. When I went to pick it up they said they could find it. The lost my already found and label range finder. It was set aside for me then disappeared. I called 3 more times asking other associates to help find it. I was told they would call me back and they never did. I will never come here again. If they find nice stuff it will surely disappear.
Best Public Course in North Houston Area
This course is near perfect in all manners. The course is very well maintained with true greens, soft bunkers, and perfect fairways. The layout is somewhat difficult as I would say there are only 5 easy holes. The greens are large and have ridges and bumps on every one. The range, restaurant, pro shop, and practice facilities are all great. The one thing I have an issue with here is they book the tee times within 8 minutes of each other regardless of party size which makes this place have some of the worst pace I've seen on a course. Other than that I would definitely recommend this course to anyone interested in this course.
1st Class Course
Fantastic course in near perfect condition. Lush fairways and medium / fast greens that putt true. If you miss the putt, it's your fault. Three six-hole loops that get progressively more challenging. 18 is a beautiful finishing hole. Entire course is very fair with no gimmicky holes. A good value at posted rates but exceptional value at $55 senior rate.
A hidden gem in the woods north of Houston
I like to think that I'm pretty knowledgeable about worthwhile golf courses most everywhere - even in areas I'm not familiar with - but I love being pleasantly surprised. High Meadow Ranch is a hidden gem of a course, situated an hour north of Houston but well worth the drive.
As soon as you get to the course, you can tell that someone who knows golf extremely well was in charge of making it happen. It's no surprise that one of the course's architects is former PGA Tour player David Ogrin. From the clubhouse and pro shop buildings to the golf course - routed in three 6-hole loops instead of returning nines, with a strong sense of playability, challenge and a bit of whimsy - everything works at HMR, which means the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. It has something for every type of golf nut, and I look forward to my next round there.
GREAT COURSE!
With all the COVID-19 golfers out these days, I was pleasantly surprised to see how well High Meadow Ranch was playing. Greens were comparable to Carlton Woods - Fazio course and I would put this layout up against just about any daily fee course in the Houston area.
Great day at High Meadow Ranch
Greater Houston area has had tremendous flooding from torrential rains in the past couple of weeks. Was not sure what to expect at HMR. Did plan on it being cart path only, which it was. However, for the most part, we could have been off the path on most holes. The greens had been recently sanded but this was hardly noticeable on most of the greens. It definitely did not impact putting. Green speed was still pretty good. Only real noticeable effect of the recent rains was the bunkers. They were not in good shape but that was understandable.
The course is very playable but it definitely has some challenging holes. Being close to Houston where most everything is flat, HMR is a welcome change. Nice elevation changes.
This course is in a beautiful wooded subdivision with many many beautiful home on extremely large lots, most probably more than 1 acre in size.
We saw several whitetail deer just off the fairway on one hole. Lots of other wildlife also there.
If in the area and have not had the pleasure of playing HMR, I definitely recommend it.
They have a nice driving range and 2 practice putting greens. The course is very well manicured and with the exception of the bunkers being washed out from the torrential rains...the course was in great shape.
Unique layout and memorable experience
WIth three six-hole loops, you'll think about your round differently at High Meadow Ranch. Instead of shooting say 41-42, your scores will be more like 28-27-30. You can also get a bite from the grill bar before hitting your tee shot on the seventh hole, a dogleg right par 4 with some length to it as well as high grass that creeps into what seems like the middle of the fairway. The trick here is lay up short of the high grass, but that sets up a long approach to a tricky green. This theme of thinking twice about hitting driver is throughout the round, and course management is a must. The par 5s are all very different and require planning and (here's the hard part) execution. Strong finishing stretch, especially the 18th, which plays from an elevated tee.
