About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
An absolute jewel of a golf course
My wife and I played Pine Barrens on a beautiful sunny afternoon. This is such a visually stunning course that you can't help but just stand on the tee and wonder where to hit your drive. Thankfully we could take the time to do that because we didn't see another golfer in front of us or behind us until the 16th hole This despite the course Marshall (a great guy by the way) telling us to pack our patience because the course was really busy.
A wonderful day that we would love to repeat. We're already booked for another round.
What a fantastic facility. Not sure we can play elsewhere now.
So Sorry To See It Go !!!!
Huge corporation swoops in and scoops up a favorite course of many golfers. They say they are going to make a "destination" for vacationers to go. I guess it is going to be a brooksville innisbrook. Shops, hotels, condos andoh yeah $250 - $300 greens fees. Good luck with that in Hernando County you filthy rich Canodians. Aye ? Good bye World Woods !!!!
World Woods
Golf course is a tremendous layout and in really good shape, pace of play could improve but over all fantastic venue for the rate
World Woods is closing for remodel/upgrade
I played this Sunday May 8th with my wife. Pine Barrens was in good shape. I have seen it in better condition but fairways and greens were perfectly fine. If you haven't played World Woods yet, your missing out! Rolling Hills and elevation changes that most FL courses don't have. The course just changed hands the end of 2021 and the new group has updates to do that I am told will take over 12 months or more. Course will be closing very shortly so make your way out there soon!!
Pine Barrens
This course will close in about 1.5 most for a two year renovation along with sister course Rolling Oaks. ?It's a great layout that is very challenging.
Cost is healthy right now. 5 weeks until they close. When they reopen the average Joe won't be able to afford it. So play it now! Just 1 more round.
Pine Barrons -A great layout
As always the Pine Barrons course at World Woods provided a very nice challenge. The greens were a tad slower than previous outings.
The elevation changes and contours of the holes always provide an opportunity to think thru your game and club selection.
Great Layout
This was probably an excellent course when it was maintained. I think probably because the course was sold
it was not keep up. I do know the company taking over this place will again make it a 5 star place to play. This
company manages top rated golf courses in Canada and other destinations in the world.
World Woods
As always living the dream when playing World Woods. Just hope it does not change too much from the hidden gem that I have been visiting for 20 years
Pleasantly surprised!
Nice track would play again. And I played it for $45. Great value as well.
Greens are Finally Back
It was great to play on nice greens, it has been some time since they were in this good of shape. Couple with some small trouble spots, but nothing worth worrying about. Get your play in while you can because new owners are forcing out local play with the projected pricing.
Worth the drive
Great course. Interesting and challenging layout. Course has been sold and a new owner is going to close it for a minimum of 18 months so play soon. The club house and all the amenities are old and it shows, but if you don’t care, and I don’t, the course is great. Has elevation changes and all the dunes. The greens are nice. Can’t wait to play it again. I heard the sister course is nice, but Pine Barrens is the star. Reminds me of the sopranos- watch out for the interior decorator.
You got one month to play here don't waste it
You got one month to play here, don't waste it! I'm serious!!! When this place opens back up it will cost big money!!
Oozes potential, good shape, friendly staff
From North Carolina. Played Southern Pines before Kyle Franz restored it, and this place reminds me a lot of that. Sounds like they’ve already begun to raise their rates (according to a local regular), but I expected it given the fact that it’s “in-season.” This place will earn 5 stars when they give it a little TLC and clear some trees to open the sight lines, but for now it still deserves 4 stars. Staff was incredibly friendly!
