Editor's Note: Course closed for business.
The Preserve at Deer Creek is a nine-hole, par-36 golf course in New Berlin, just 25 minutes outside of Milwaukee. Opened in 2003, the affordable course is still one of Waukesha County's best-kept secrets. It is fun for a quick round and it is also a great place for beginners to hone their skills. The player-friendly layout still has some bite to it with subtle but tricky contours and strategically placed bunkers. The golf course also boasts excellent conditions on the greens and fairways. While it may not be the place you are looking for if you are in search of a formidable test, it is the perfect spot for getting in some fast practice. There are also three different sets of tees so that you can tailor the golf course to your abilities.

What more do you want?
We booked a tee time for this course, but based on the reviews on this site we were expecting it to be the worst round of golf we've ever played. The reviews eviscerated the course and spoke about how poor the conditions were, how long the grass was in the rough, how sparse the grass was on the fairway....
I have NO CLUE what they are talking about. I'm convinced those patrons played a completely different course than we did.
My buddy and I had a great time on this course. It was moderately priced and we found the course conditions to be perfectly acceptable. The layout required some skill, but didn't punish us too badly for errant shots. The rough was the rough, and we had no problem locating our balls. The greens were easy to read and seemed to roll true.
We spoke with Cyrus, the manager, after our round and he talked about how much work they've put in over the past year to try and rebuild this course. I'd say it's working. I would advise against putting too much stock into reviews written before 2018. This course seems to be on the rise.
This isn't Erin Hills...but it doesn't cost that much, either. I think this is a great value play in SE Wisconsin, and we will definitely be adding it to our rotation of courses. Don't shy away because of the previous reviews. There is no reason to avoid this course.
disappointing
The course was in really rough shape. Some fairways were just fine, while others had large areas of no grass and many many patches of dirt, which was really disappointing. There were multiple holes where the "rough" was almost to our knees, which was something I've never seen before in my many times playing this course. It appeared as if they just stopped taking care of the course. For the $$ we paid, and given the conditions it was in, I will not be back unless I hear the course is back up to it's old standards.
NOT MUCH TO TALK ABOUT
After booking a tee time for myself and some friends we arrived at the course on a beautiful sunny day to find the course closed and no one on the premises.
I do not know if this was the fault of the course or Golf Now but it ruined our day!
Great Value - Challenging Layout - Read On About Conditions
First, some perspective: Paid $13.50 per person for nine holes with a cart.
Course conditions: Tee boxes were generally in good shape. Fairways tended to run hard and had some bare spots and/or clover patches, but were otherwise very nice. Many greens have bare patches. (If I caught a bad lie in the fairway, I moved the ball a couple feet to the nearest grassy spot. If I caught a bare part of the green, I moved the ball 2-3 feet to grass. Not a big deal.)
The layout is challenging, with opening three or four holes having forced carries of anywhere from 180-200 yards. The holes are challenging, and the only quirky hole is #6 (short par 4). Pace of play was great (it wasn't crowded).
So, the conditions weren't great, but neither was my game. But, if you can put up with moving your ball a foot or two to get a decent lie on 2-4 shots, you're going to play a good layout for a great price.
must be discounted
Fairways were like rough and rough was worse than the U.S. Open. You were lucky to find your ball if you hit it in the rough. I've never seen so many ball marks on the greens. Maybe the course is in such poor condition that players just don't care.
For the Money
Not bad for the money. Pretty good challenge from the tips
Not worth the time
Unless you live really close and have nothing better to do don't bother coming here. The fairways are terrible they are hard and look terrible with crabgrass and dirt, they look like your backyard when you haven't had any rain in months. Hard to tell the difference between the rough and fairway. If you land in the rough there is a chance you could land near a tree where no weed wacking has been done around the tree or land next to big branches laying in the rough. The only thing good about this course was that the greens were in pretty good shape, otherwise the course looks like your backyard.
Preserve the Good Life
Nice nine hole course. Not all that long but some challenging holes. Finished in under two hours on a beautiful morning. Will be back.
Is nothing like is pictures
the golf course is made from a swamp. the course is very unforging. I lost 5 balls . If you didn't stay right on the fairwary, good luck finding your ball.I will never go back.
Over Priced!
For what you get at this course, I believe they over charge. In fact I'm positive they over charge. While the lay-out has potential, the conditions of this course are just terrible. As stated in other reviews, the fairways are not much better than the rough here. They are mostly dirt and crab grass. Pictures of course are old. It's unfortunate because it is very close to my house. There are much better courses for the price they charge. I would say $10 for 9 w/cart would be a fair price here and $20 for 18 w/cart. I paid over twice that to ride 9 holes.
Lower prices or fix conditions and I will return. Otherwise I have no desire to waste my money here.
2 Stars because I have never had to wait there and it's pretty easy to get a tee time booked.
Great small course
I enjoy the Preserve for working on my game. Staff is always very nice and I have meet good people playing on the course.
Fun course
This place is a small 9 hole course but a lot of fun. Kind of open so if you spray the ball you still have a shot usually. Great value, got 9 holes and a cart for 8 bucks!
Meh
The layout is OK; some of the holes are a little "quirky." The course conditions need some work. You would think that after being around for over a decade that a track built on the site of a former nursery would be able to grow grass, but some of the fairways are more mud and weeds than grass. And for the prices they charge, well, I know places that charge less and have more grass.
Nice course
I play this course often and really enjoy it. The only problem I've ever run in to is when I have a tee time following leagues. The ole guys in the league are a little slow.......okay - really slow. Just have to keep this in mind when booking your time.
Pleasant course
Very well kept golf course; very friendly staff. Will become a favorite!
some challenges
The first 3 holes have fairly narrow fairways with plenty of trees to give you some problems. A nice course with 2 par fives
Nice Course... Good Value
We played Saturday morning 8/1. The clubhouse is basic with only the essentials. There is a small putt and chip area. No range. Just a couple of old school driving nets. The carts are gas powered and come with nothing. No tee's, towels, divot/seed repair, and water/cooler. Tee boxes are decent. Fairways are OK, but have a mixture of weeds and crabgrass. The out of bounds are true. No recovery shots. The cuts are drastic and the rough is thick. The greens are in good shape and vary in speed. Pace of play was typical for a Saturday morning. Overall it was a nice round...
Hi there: I'm the manager and we strive to be the best. Please let me know when you arrived at our course since I did have staff on-duty until 6:30.
Thanks,
Cyrus
