Old Corkscrew Golf Club

About
Carved from forests of towering oaks and pines, Old Corkscrew Golf Club exhibits all of the superior characteristics that define Nicklaus Signature courses. The absence of houses around the golf course adds to the secluded and peaceful feel that is provided by the dense thickets of trees that surround it. Jack Nicklaus himself was a prominent presence throughout every phase of the course's construction, incorporating well balanced holes that vary in direction, look, and feel. Proper club selection will be greatly rewarded on this golf course. The fast-paced, undulating greens sit up to 20 feet above the lush, rolling fairways, which can create some tricky pin placements if you're not careful. Old Corkscrew Golf Club's fairways are rather generous, but they are framed by carefully sculpted bunkers. Several large ponds come into play on nearly every hole and there are also numerous sand traps strategically placed along the greensides.

Hole 4 at Old Corkscrew is a reachable par 4, but there's a lot of danger to avoid. Photo submitted by TimGavrichGP on 02/23/2018

Complete letdown
Stop charging premium rates it you can’t keep premium greens. That was atrocious. Should refund people for that joke of a condition.
Greens are Awful
Headline says it all. Staff said at check-in that 4-5 holes had some dead patches but that they were rolling true. Nonsense. 5-6 greens were largely unplayable b/c of the large dead spots (in some places, covered by sand that one could not put through at all). 3-4 others had more than just occasional blotches. On the worst holes, the greenskeeper had to put pins within 4-5 feet of the edge of the green b/c of the damage. Great, very challenging course, but this is not a playable course at this price. Greens were worse than almost any muni out there. Staff should be honest about this as well. Course age, size of greens and significant crowning of the greens all over the course suggests that these greens are due for a total overhaul and that Old Corkscew should take a year off to do that correctly.
Terrible greens
Greens are in terrible shape. I'd recommend avoiding this place for at least a few months. Multiple large brown and dead patches. Nearly impossible to make anything outside of 5 feet. Remaining grass on the green is shaggy. Rest of course is in good condition.
Old Corkscrew
The greens are burnt out when we showed up the assistant Pro said only six screens were burnt out and it was more like 12 or 13 not worth the money
Greens were worse than the staff told us about. The clubhouse was closed by 4:30 and the cart girl was only seen on the first couple holes of the day.
The greens are terrible. The course is in steep decline. The course will be closed for renovation and then going private. This course should close now as it should be an embarrassment to the owners. I want my money back! This course sucks!!!!!! Was told by the desk jockey holes one and thirteen had a fungus problem, looks like it spread to 12 others holes while I was teeing off.
Old Corkscrew
Great golf course with a fantastic layout. The course is in great shape from tee box to green, some of the green have a few spots from a fungus but they look like they are improving. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
It is a shame
I played this spectacular course several times. However, it is now virtually unplayable. Where before they maintained the greens outside of the horrible diseased areas, they have now let the greens completely go as I understand that in April they are removing them and the course is going private, as stated by the employees. For that reason, they are basically stealing money by charging even half of what they customarily charge to play there. But I certainly understand the market and they are taking advantage of it.
Believe the poor reviews
Don't be fooled by:
1. Good reviews
2. The GN featured price
3. Staff underplaying the bad condition of greens
Believe only the bad reviews!!! Greens are unplayable ruining your golf experience. This is a beautiful and challenging golf course, but.....don't be lured in by the lowered price...wait it out 6 months or more until the greens are playable.
Course confitions
Greens are terrible and we were not advised of this prior to signing up for our tee time. Great layout and would be nice to play if the greens were puttable!
Old Corkscrew
Greens were terrible. I wasn’t told they were diseased when I made the tee time. 5 hour round. Waited on most tees. Check in person was pleasant bag drop staff not very.
Old Corkscrew Golf Course
The course was in terrible shape - not just the greens! Pace of play was horrible and staff did nothing to fix it
Great layout, nice staff…greens???
Nice course, great layout and staff, but condition of the greens was really bad…not advised if conditions in pros not upon checking in, nor was there an adjusted cost for the round…some greens were barely playable yet still charging full-pop??
A GREAT TRACK
I love this golf course and will most definitely play it again. Really fun, some challenging holes, but no houses! The natural layout was spectacular.
The greens were really starting to shape up.
Course is in Horrible Shape (Dead Greens)
The greens have dies on 6 to 8 holes, making putting impossible or even ridiculous. I told people I would play the course again if it were free and came with a $100 gift card for my favorite restaurant. I can say that I was warned about the conditions of the green, but I never thought it would be as bad as it was. I wish I could post pictures to show you what I mean.
