Excellent course, among the best I've played
Everything about The Jewel was first class.
Quality putting green, driving range and even a chipping green with a bunker to practice sand shots.
The conditions of everything on the course was excellent, which was impressive since it had just rained a lot the previous two days and the entire night before. We weren't even sure if the course would be playable that day. I was especially impressed by the great shape of the bunkers despite all the rain.
The greens were immaculate, rolled well and were slightly on the quick side, but each hole had at least a little break, which made us all miss a lot of putts.
The rough was surprisingly thick; thicker than I was used to.
I loved the course layout and variety of different holes and tee shots. Almost every shot felt uniquely different and interesting.
On the front 9, holes 1-3 and 8-9 were more of a treeless "links" style with plenty of bunkers, including fairway bunkers, whereas holes 4-7 were suddenly "back in the woods" with fewer bunkers.
The back 9 was more of a traditional layout with more water and scenic views of the surrounding terrain.
Six different tees to play from (Red, Copper, White, Blue and Black, as well as a Blue/White option) to offer an appropriate challenge for a wide range of skill levels.
Quality on-course amenities, like plenty of drinking water and actual bathroom buildings instead of, say, outhouses or nothing at all.
Nice clubhouse with bar & restaurant and outdoor patio on top floor overlooking the course. The chicken breast on my caesar salad after we played was surprisingly well-cooked; juicy & delicious. Although, someone in our group complained about the long wait at the turn for a hot dog.
They also had electric golf carts, which I always prefer over gas.
True test of your game
This course will test your game in every which way. From the tips, there are some of the most difficult shots in the state. No nonsense here if you hit the ball well you won’t have to worry about OB or hazards too much. Layout is fantastic, back 9 is an absolute blast.
Great course
I’ve been playing this course for a few years now and this has to be some of the best conditions this late in October. Hopefully the weather cooperates and I can play it again before the end of the season.
Not bad, not great
I wouldn’t rush back, but I would go back. Pace was horrible. Had to wait on every single shot.
Great higher end technical course in southern Minnesota
This course got great reviews by friends and colleagues. It does live up to the reviews and is very technical. Very friendly staff and grounds keepers. Very nice clubhouse. Electric carts prepped ready for your day on arrival, my first actual course with sand and seed on the cart in 3 years playing. Actual flushable bathrooms on the edge of from and back 9’s was nice! Course layout is long and fairly wide fairways and T boxes are placed just as I would expect for their distances. Fairways and greens are hard and fast. I mishit many fairways not thinking the ball would roll out or bounce another 20 or 30 yards and lost balls in the native grass next to fairways that’s too thick to look for a ball. This is probably due to the native clay base of the area. I would say the greens are tournament speed and play pretty much as expected. Definitely practice on the greens before playing here. The only downsides I found here were the wind which was crazy I think from the long and open fairways, the roughs were cut probably 6” whereas fairways were like a green so you can get into trouble fast, and lastly I didn’t see a single ball cleaner. Never played a course without a ball cleaner at least every few holes, maybe it’s because they know people loose them often enough to not need a ball cleaner. I did realize after 18 holes that they have buckets for water for a towel around the starter box and range.100% would recommend The Jewel however I probably won’t play here again until I have a higher skill set.
Fantastic Golf Course
The course was in phenomenal shape and Pace of play was a non-issue. The course is one of the best public courses in MN. Very challenging yet scoring chances exist on every hole.
The staff is fantastic. The grounds crew has the course in tip top shape. I wish there were more days left in the season to play. Truly a must for the avid golfer.
10/10 experience, the value is absurd! You won’t find anything else remotely close to it in MN.
Kudus!
Excellent course!
The Jewel is always in great shape, even at the beginning of April! I highly recommend you give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!!
Great course
I truly enjoyed my round of golf there. I'm definitely coming back play there. Very soon. Hopefully before the close of 2023 season. Most definitely in 2024 golf season
