Port Royal Golf Course

About
Located on the shorefront of Southampton Parish, the Port Royal Golf Course is one of the most frequented public golf courses in Bermuda and it is even known as being one of Jack Nicklaus' favorites. Robert Trent Jones designed this 18-hole course, which hosts the Bermuda Open Championship every year. Doglegs and wind are just some of the factors that will challenge golfers on this course. The signature hole is the scenic and rather infamous 16th, situated precariously atop craggy cliffs that overlook the Atlantic Ocean. The hole requires a nearly perfect shot in order to reach the green. Port Royal Golf Course has garnered such a following that some golfers reserve starting time a year in advance.

Port Royal
Great staff from the time I arrived until it was time to go. Great course with spectacular views.
Very good layout
I enjoyed my recent round at Port Royal. The layout is strong with good shot values and awesome views particularly on the back nine. The overall condition was a bit below average due to spotty, brown, bumpy greens. However, that said, the greens still rolled well enough so that in combination with decent fairways and tees I was to have a satisfying experience. Value was reasonable only because of the Golf Now Hot Deal- at full rate it would have been overpriced.
Course is in poor condition
This course has been in bad condition for the last 2 years. The greens are un puttable. The fairways are dry, lumpy with little grass, the rough is in poor shape as well. It’s a shame because the course has nice ocean views and a fun layout. It used to be in good shape but they let it go.
It’s insanely overpriced for the condition it’s in, $135 on golf now hot deal up to $220 full price. In the condition it’s in it’s not worth $75, much $45 without ocean views.
The bartender at the turn is lazy & slower than molasses.
Don’t waste your money here or book a trip to play it because you will be disappointed.
Great Views
My son and I played this course, and to be fair it was an evening (5:00pm) game and middle of march.
The putting greens on the first two holes were bad, no other way to say it. It definitely improved from there, but none of the greens were good enough.
As to the views from the course, they were spectacular.
I would give the course another chance, to prove it is worth the money they charge for the rounds.
Best Course and Value in Bermuda
Don’t waste $300+on Tuckers or Mid-Ocean, both are nice courses but double the price of Port Royal.
The staff, restaurant and personnel are amazing.
Third trip to Bermuda and only need Port Royal!
Very nice course
The course is beautiful , very hilly . Lots of intersting holes
Check out Port Royal
Port Royal Golf Club is a wonderful RTJ design that has moments where you think it is really easy, and then... boom. The holes "over the hill" or on the oceanside can play really tough, especially if you get into a sand trap. They are definitely highly penal at Port Royal, especially since they are not fluffy like those at many US or Caribbean resort-style courses. Port Royal will test you immensely, especially on the holes with wind. However, it is a good course and definitely worth a visit.
Vacation game
Just a week or so after the tournament. Only complaint would be that the greens had been top dressed and were very slow and sandy Was lucky as a single to join up with the owner and manager of the mini putt in Dockyards. Great guys, thank you. The course is very hilly, I usually walk but happy to cart here. Views are amazing and I did hit 16 green!!!
Great Round
Course in great shape after pGA tournament. Very challenging with very scenic views. Extremely pleasant staff. A must play golf course
Fantastic round
Even busy getting ready for the PGA tournament the staff were friendly, course was beautiful, and the views are gorgeous. Some tough uphill holes in the wind. A must in Bermuda.
Port Royal Always Fun But!
Played a couple weeks after a hurricane impacted Bermuda. Bunkers were in. bad shape
and not playable as some washed out. Tee boxes and fairways good but greens hadn’t come back yet. Glad we played on Golf Now rate not course or even hotel rate. Pro shop was well stocked for a change though few dollars have been invested in buildings and infrastructure.
We’ll have to see how in looks in two months when PGA tournament takes place.
Great golf course but not in great shape
First they had a hurricane which washed out some bunkers so none were playable, free drop. Very hilly course but restricted to cart path per PGA request because of tournament in November. We asked for two handicap flags they only had one, so we were insulted by roving staff when we tried to explain the situation. There were some apologies when we stopped for lunch as we were not first timers at the course which they knew. My wife and I played there many times over past 20 years. So my best recommendation is to wait to play after the tournament, it should be in better condition then. Many more pro divots though,
We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced during your visit, clydejohn. Thank you for your feedback, and we hope the course conditions improve after the tournament for a better experience on your next visit.
