Spey Bay Golf Links and Hotel

About
This is a visually pleasing undulating links course with a long beach on one side. Measuring 6,219 yards from the tips, Spey Bay Golf Club is a par 70.
Gorse and heather line the fairways here, and the beach creates a natural border on some holes - though it won't come into play unless you're completely wild off the tee.
No. 8 is Spey Bay Golf Club's signature hole. The small green sits atop a hillock, so you better be accurate or risk seeing your ball go tumbling down. This pretty much goes for all the holes at Spey Bay, which requires a thoughtful shot off the tee and a light touch around the greens.

Disappointed
i wanted to play Spey Bay before it is closed and "remodelled". I booked it online. When I arrived they could not find my booking. Fortunately I had my reference. The comment was made you have paid the new price (£65). I was extremely disappointed at the condition of the fairways. From many of the tees you could not tell where the rough ended and the fairway began. I have played 9 other courses in the Moray area recently and Spey Bay is by far THE WORST. If the price was £35 I would have no issue but I am sorry to say £65 does not represent fair value for money. I will not be returning
Spey Bay
Weather was excellent and course couldn’t have looked better with the brilliant yellow of the gorse. Such a pretty picture.
Spey Bay
Great value for money, course very quite and in good condition.
Good bones
What a gem of a course! This course has good bones and with a bit of TLC could be fab
Spey Bay
Really enjoyed round.
Course still in early season condition but several interesting holes. Good value.
Best Value - Real Links Course
Played on a Monday in January. Unfortunately Club wasn’t open to get a scorecard but expected in January. Having been many times before however, I can say staff and facilities are very good. The course condition is good but you can expect a few areas with rabbit scrapings etc. For someone who loves golf and tradition however, condition is good overall and it’s easily overlooked as the layout is amazing and enjoyment playing this is second to none. Traditional style links bumpy fairways with great greens of all shapes and sizes. I’ve never not enjoyed Spey Bay. It’s a hidden gem and it’s very under played by locals but if you are visiting the area. It’s so worth while going for a game and something to eat. Amazing views and a great little village.
Bring cash
Turned up with 11 year old son to play for the first time to be told they only take cash! Nearest card machine was 4 miles away!! Then had to pay £10 extra to get a tee time online! Will not be returning
Easy played
Nice Course, simple layout, straightforward, would go back play another day. Greens in good condition, fairways good usual Hilly lynx fairways. Nice afternoon round.
A hidden gem
The course is really well layed out
A real eye opener
I was very impressed and was would recommend it to anyone on the North East Coast golf trail
Spey Bay 28/07/22
Thoroughly enjoyed our round. Barely anyone else on the course so flew round.
By no means a perfectly manicured resort style course but that added to the enjoyment for me. Wonderfully natural bumpy fairways that were for the most part generous enough. Greens quite slow but ran nicely enough. Couple of cracking wee par 3s. Notably the infinity style green on the 8th.
For the cost (£25) excellent value for money.
Speybay
This is a really nice links course running along the sea side. It is unusual for a links in that the subsoil is mostly shingle brought down by the river Spey from the mountains and covered by a thin layer of sandy soil.. As one would expect of a Ben Sayers design it has some of the features of North Berwick West: figure of 8 layout, occasional narrow raised green and even a Redan type (steep reverse facing green} par 3 at the 16th.
We really enjoyed it and thought it amazingly cheap and mostly empty of people playing golf, presumably due to its remoteness.
Links course a bit tired
Lovely course close to Buckie. Members were playing ahead and could have played us through but chose to ignore us for nearly all the round. So, not friendliest or courteous members, which was a shame as people in the area are generally very welcoming. Course itself was fairly typical links but in need of a bit of tlc. Course played easy on a lovely calm day when I was also playing well.
Great layout
Spey Bay has a stunning location by the Moray Firth and is a real traditional links test with undulating fairways. Off the beaten track but highly recommended.
Great day out
Had a smashing day out. Hired a buggy and would have hired the second had it been serviceable. Catering stayed back until 15:30 to accommodate our party. We were looked. After professionally in particular by Sally
Fair test of links golf
Hospitable traditional classic links experience. Excellent value.
