Very pleasant round in November
On Nov 21st, and with 55 degrees in the northeast, sunshine, light wind, a really pleasant round. 4h 30 min is ok for a Saturday morning, from 9 to 1.30 - probably the best time to play golf.
Overall conditions pretty good, unfortunately a few slow greens. Not too many leaves, and grass seems to have been cut recently. Starter very nice & friendly. Chilled atmosphere. The one thing I'd like them to improve is their beer selection - only Michelob Ultra seems a bit minimal, even in times of Covid. Still - will definitely be back!
I loved the course
I don’t understand all the negative reviews here, I loved the course, it’s challenging if you want to make it so, it’s like any other course, it’s all about course management. Tee boxes were in very good shape, fairways were not the best but for the time of year it’s understandable. Greens are small and slow but easily manageable. It’s a long course with some beautiful viewing holes, well worth the trip and looking forward to play there in the spring
A new course reborn
I know it's been challenging the past few years but now with the new sprinkler system and all the tree;s they cut down it's a great course. Yes, still some work to do but as it was years ago you better get there early because they will be lined up to play here. The elevations are great fun to play on and the new fairways are like carpets. One more year of work and this will be Rockland County's best!
Just terrible
Save yourself the time and money and stay away from this course. Don't even know how they advertise this place as a golf course. Looks like they haven't mowed the fairways since the Yugoslav wars. Made it through 7 holes and we had to leave it was unplayable. Certainly the worst course in the tri state area, maybe in the whole country.
Playing at A Construction Site
The golf course should be closed while they're doing construction on the underground sprinklers. There are workmen on most holes, muddy patches, torn up ground and broken cart path pavements. The noise from the construction machines is distracting. What I resented most was that when I went to the clubhouse to pay, no one told me about the terrible conditions. I won't be back until they finish all the construction work. The wet conditions made cart path only on EVERY hole mandatory.
Executive Course
All par 3's, but very challenging. It is not an easy walk as it is very hilly. Tee boxes are mats that are surrounded by waist high, brick walls, very unusual. Yardages range from 110 to 212, and I would say they are not accurate. The greens have subtle breaks and are a bit on the slow side. You must hit the greens or be close, because the rest of the course is in terrible condition. It is certainly unique!
A flaw with this website is when there are 2 courses in the same location, the reviews do not necessarily depict the correct course.
Save Your Money
First i have to say the greens were in very good shape but running very slow.
The lack of grass on some fairways and complete bare spots(dirt) on most made for a tough round.
The fairway on 18 was dirt, rocks and looked like something you would see on a playground.
The driving range was old and run down as was the club house.
The cart paths were old broken up blacktop which were dangerous in places. This course is like the rest of NYS.
Brutal fairways
First time playing Rockland Lake in many years and while I don't recall the conditions last time I played, I was extremely disappointed by the course conditions. Quite frankly, the fairways are awful! They're are large brown patches on every hole. Crab grass is also common. Some holes have actual holes. Watch your step! They are also not cut, making it hard to distinguish where the fairway ends and the rough starts. Just brutal. It has been a dry summer, but come on. Other area public courses are much better. I get that it's a NYS Park, but it should be better. The greens are generally very good. Now focus on fairways.
Could Be Better
1st Hole, 3 wood right to left shot, easy par 4 hole if kept in fairway.
2nd Hole Par 4, another right to left shot, uphill 2nd shot to green.
3rd Hole, Par 5 2nd shot for eagle or birdie if your drive lands before a small diagonal creek on the dogleg right. OB is to the right of tee boxes.
4th Hole #1 Handicap Par 4. Hit it straight and long on drive and 2nd shot. A 5 feels like a par.
5th Hole Par 4. Keep it in the fairway easy Par 4.
6th Hole Long Par 3 but doable.
7th Hole Par 5. Uphill 3rd shot to Blind Green
8th Hole Par 4. Downhill then Uphill Dogleg right.
9th Hole Par 3. Keep it right and shot will bounce left onto the green.
10th Hole Par 4. Downhill then Uphill to the Green
11th Hole Par 5. Right to Dogleg left hole unless you can bang it over the trees on the left. Green on a plateau.
12th Hole Par 3. Straight Straight Straight Long Downhill shot, trees hang over left and right side.
13th Hole Par 4 Long Dogleg left.
14th Hole Par 5. Keep it in the fairway Birdie Hole.
15th Hole Par 4. Slight Dogleg left to right. Trouble on the right.
16th Hole Par 3. Downhill shot.
17th Hole Par 4. Woods and hard ground on right.
18th Hole par 4. Keep left, everything feeds left to right.
Greens are slow slow slow, they should roll them more.
yikes!
The course isn't the worst thing about this place. It's the people that work their. Especially the pro's if you can call them that. They are rude and have horrible attitudes, they treat you like they are better than you. The course is in the worst condition I have seen it in years. I thought they got some grant money or something. They don't even cut holes in the practice greens anymore. This could actually be a good course if maybe they fired the so called pro's that work their.
Really? Come on.... This course is great track, challenging with a nice layout. It's not a private club but if you hit is straight, you'll be in good condition vs playing out of the woods which I am guessing is where you pay from, #golfsnob/hack
