Abbey Springs Golf Course

About
Abbey Springs Golf Course in Fontana is routed through mature woodlands that give it a peacefully secluded feel. Surrounded by countryside and enclosed within towering trees, the course is an ideal getaway. The challenging course has small, sloped greens and water hazards that come into play on half of the holes. It is a golf course that requires accuracy, especially when maneuvering past the strategically placed bunkers that lurk beside the greens. There are plenty of challenges in store for more advanced players, but beginners can still approach the course with confidence. The excellent condition of the course is also a feature that any golfer can appreciate. Abbey Springs Golf Course's signature hole is the par-4 17th, which offers what might be the most scenic of all the vistas on the course. This hole plays from an elevated tee that overlooks Lake Geneva.

Disappointing
Scenic course in poor condition. If you’re going to charge $100+ please fix your greens or give us the courtesy of knowing that the course isn’t up to standard. Ridiculous. Muddy and chewed up I won’t be back.
Average course with a high price and terrible staff and carts
This course has a lot of potential that's easily ruined by several pitfalls with the carts and staff given the pricing.
To start with the good, I will say the course itself is a beautiful layout that has plenty of elevation changes that make for compelling views and challenges for players of all skill ranges. In that aspect it knocks it out of the park.
For the negatives though you have a combination of rude staff, carts that shutoff constantly if you're not just on the cart path, and a high price point that doesn't justify the course itself, especially with the rude staff.
At $135 per round, the price is suggesting a next level WI golf experience, which it is not. I'd strongly recommend just playing Mascoutin and Lawsonia instead which would give you two of WI's best courses for almost the same price, especially if you shop for deals. Additionally, I will say the starters and the bev cart staff are phenomenal, but the great staff ends there. The bartenders above the clubhouse are the rudest service I've ever received, and the guy who was yelling at everyone accidentally driving on a road next to the driving range, which has the cart path about 20 ft ahead, needs to get his ego checked.
I would not play here again given these pitfalls, especially when the experience at Sage run and Sweet Grass in MI, which is only about 25 min further than Lake Geneva was, is a far better experience with amazing staff to go along with it.
Great track made even better
Extremely fun and highly underrated track in Wisconsin. The course underwent a renovation in 2021/2022 and the Lohmann Quitno team did a knock out job. Too many good tracks undertake large renovations rerouting the course, ruining the original architecture and do more harm then good (looking at you dubs). The renovation focused on its weak points which included fixing a few of its bad holes (6, 7 & 10) as well as the inconsistent grainy greens. The course has a variety of par 4s that will challenge your shot making and require a mix of different shots. From 17 a short 300 yard down hill par 4 that focuses on shot placement to hole 15 a brute 500 yard uphill par 4 that will require a high launching 200 yard approach shot for any chance to hold the raised green in regulation. But truly the best part of the course is the four par 5s, you could argue no other course in the Midwest has four better par 5s. 7 and 10 were arguably the two worst holes on the course pre renovation, lohman quitno made sure to change that. 7 now features a peninsula green with a variety of pin placements that will change your ideal approach location accordingly and 10 has a blind punch bowl green that will make you feel like you are anywhere but the Midwest. The course truly has no bad holes now and some of the best rolling most challenging greens you can play. Its a must play if you are in the lake Geneva area and would argue a top 10 course in a extremely competitive Wisconsin golf market.
Great Round
Really enjoyed course. Carts comfortable and GPS enabled. They did a decent job on the leaves considering the hundreds of trees.Few rough spots on the tee boxes and greens. Sand traps were quite firm but nicely kept. Some of the greens were very challenging due to slope and pin placement.
Difficult course - narrow, difficult site lines from the back tees
A very pretty course, friendly staff, hilly and picturesque. Fairly narrow fairways, lots of trees. Difficulty finding numerous balls in rough just off fairway. Greens fast with a lot of slope to the point of being unfair due to difficult pin placements for the average golfer.
Awesome Place
This is one of my favorite courses. In my opinion it blows the courses at Geneva National out of the water and its a little bit cheaper (not much). It has many picturesque holes and his heavily wooded so you need to be ready to hit it straight. It is not very long though. The greens were extremely challenging and I had very hard time with the speeds and undulation. I cant wait to go back and play again!
Abbey Springs....Wow
My third time playing Abbey Springs, and every time I play it just gets better. Course is semi private, so when you enter the lot, you have to check in with security. Staff is very friendly and courteous, and everything clubhouse wise is top notch. Great pro shop, big selection of apparel. Bar and dining areas are very nice. Putting green is great for getting used to the fast greens. Range is a bit unusual, there is not much space, so you can only hit wedges there. Still good for warming up though. The course is the best part obviously, with amazing views on 5, 6, 12, and 17. The par fives are all solid great holes. Two go way uphill, and two gently go downhill. Par threes are very solid, and two of the par fours, 12 and 17 are definitely camera worthy. Highly recommend to all.
2nd to none
All the facilities there are second to none. I was impressed with every part of my experience. If your looking for a place to spend a little extra for that special round this would be the place you want to go.
Scenic Layout
This has to be one of the most scenic courses in Wisconsin. Carved out of the woods with many elevation changes and a dramatic view of Lake Geneva from the 17th tee, make this a pleasant round even if your score is lousy. The greens and fairways are in great shape.
This is a great scenic course!
The views over Lake Geneva would make this course worth it it but it is so much more. The greens are tough but fair. Well maintained and groomed throughout the whole round. Pace of play was excellent. Our 4 some made it in less than 4.5 hrs on a holiday.
Simply beautiful!!!
I was completely satisfied with this course. I was not expecting this caliber of course for the money I spent on green fees. I will be returning next time I'm in the area ....
Well played Abby springs !!!!
Unique and Challenging
If you haven't made your way out to this course while in the area, you should really give it a try. The only word of caution I would offer is that on our particular day the greens were beyond lightning fast, which was okay for putting but which made chipping quite problematic. Even so, a real gem and great value.
Great course
We had a great day playing there. Will always play there.
Tough greens
Overall layout was challenging, but for the most part enjoyable. The course was very well maintained, though I was not a fan of the greens. Despite carding my first hole-in-one (hole 6) I had 8 three-putts, most for birdie where I ended up making bogey. Keeping it below the hole was of extreme importance, though even then at times the greens were borderline ridiculous to navigate. Great views, nice course, but REALLY tough greens!
Retired Super's opinion
This is a well maintained nicely designed course. Very friendly staff. Pace of play was what ever speed I chose to play. Greens where quick and true. The only negative I had with the course was pin placement. The greens have a lot of elevation change (their hilly) some of the pins where in areas that was borderline illegal. Put in spots you could put a 20 footer up to the hole and if you where short they would roll all the way back to you. Otherwise I would highly recommend.
Abbey Springs
The course layout was quite challenging and had a number of risk/reward holes. My only constructive complaint would be the condition of the greens - there was no consistency in terms of speed...
