Unbelievable
This is arguably my best experience at a golf course.
I'm in the military and got out on the course with a couple of Kiwi's I was working with on a nearby exercise. There was a storm the night before we played and the course was soaked. Carts weren't allowed on the course which turned out to be a blessing. Walking the course really allowed us to take in its beauty. But be warned, it was a challenging walk.
I don't think we saw another golfer after we teed off. It felt like the entire course was ours. We even stopped at the club house for a beer at the turn and there was no rush to get going again.
It is extremely expensive, but totally worth the price. If it's not on your bucket list, it should be.
Better than Cape Kidnappers
Kauri Cliffs is the lesser known and lesser played of the two. Cape Kidnappers came first and had a more prominent designer, but don’t let that fool you. The views here are much better from the ground and are great from nearly every part of the course. You can see the ocean and the cliffs as soon as you show up. The two par 3s along the water are some of the most beautiful anywhere in the world.
The course is difficult, but fair. Our group was the only one out there that day and our caddy was quite helpful. I have had the pleasure of playing many top 100 courses and this is my favorite. Well worth the trip.
Unbeleiveable
Absolutely fantastic golf course for the 1%'ers. Remote, you pretty much have to stay at the resort to play there and that is going to cost you a lot. If you have to ask, you can't afford it kind of price. Having said that, this is a bucket list golf course, and the resort is nice too. Seaside with beautiful views, it out Pebbles Pebble Beach, easily. You have to take a cart because of the geography, hilly with huge gullies. Good caddies, mine held the course record! A truly memorable experience. If you have gone all the way to NZ, if you can afford it, you need to go the extra distance and play Kauri Cliffs
