One of my favorite courses in all of Scotland
Over my 35+ years playing in Scotland, Kilmarnock is one of my favorite courses to play every year. The layout is fantastic. The conditions are even better. By far some of the best greens in Scotland. With 27 holes, the 9 hole Hillhouse course and the 18 hole Barassie Links you have choices. Both excellent. In addition the 9 hole Hillhouse course is a proper full 9 holes that were part of the original course years prior before they expanded to 27 holes. I came to enjoy the course so much I became a member even though I live in NYC. Always a warm welcome and a great reason to make my way over every year.!
A links with two names
You can call this links Kilmarnock or Barassie and get away with it. It's located adjacent to both Dundonald and Western Gailes, so it sometimes gets lost in the shuffle with such a competitive local golf scene. The club, which has produced a solid line of Walker Cup players over the years, continues to tweak its routing, with some solid changes in recent years. Watch out for a burn on several early holes. Overall, a solid choice among a deep tier of more affordable local clubs you can play in Ayrshire.
Highly recommended
In very good condition for time of year. As enjoyable and challenging as ever. An excellent links course with friendly staff and excellent facilities.
Excellent
Played 19/01/2017 and the course was in great condition considering the time of year. Played in a 3 ball and pace was good. I would recommend this course. I really liked the challenge of the links course.
Really enjoyable
