Great links course in superb condition
Smart and challenging links course Just N of Aberdeen. Course in beautiful condition. Customer service good. Buggies ( power carts) and hand carts available for those who fly into Scotland. Blind shots and lots of run on dry summer links. Like the course- would recommend. Nice cafe/restaurant
brown fairways
difficult course, when you are not on the (brown) fairway, you got a real problem. greens were green and in a very good shape. nice views on the sea.
Short, but tough, test
Don't be fooled by the yardage -- it's only about 6,400 yards from the tips. It plays a lot longer, especially when the wind blows, which it always does. We played Murcar immediately off a long flight and it proved to be a tough opener. The rough was especially thick and juicy after a wetter-than-usual summer, and the number of lost balls in our group was plentiful. I didn't use driver more than two or three times, and on into-the-wind holes I simply played for par and wasn't too upset with bogey. Overall, a solid track.
Home of a European Tour event
Murcar is good, but it's easy to see why it gets lost in the shuffle with so many other great courses in the area. It butts up to Royal Aberdeen, and Trump International and Cruden Bay are both up the coasts.
But give Murcar a look if you're in the area looking for a place to play. The staff is super friendly and the course is a good place to play if you're looking to get your links footing under you. We played it right off the plane and it was a tough afternoon, but it didn't dampen our spirits.
It'll host a European Tour 64-man match play event in late July, hosted by Open champion Paul Lawrie.
Murcar in prime shape for big event
Murcar is a storied links that sometimes gets bumped off of the itinerary of links-loving Americans because it is sandwiched between Trump Scotland and Royal Aberdeen, host of the 2014 Scottish Open. Murcar is getting ready to show the golf world its worth by hosting the inaugural Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play in July. The event will feature 64 top European Tour pros battling in match play. The course was lush with rough and narrow fairways when I visited in May. It will be an exacting test.
