Ojai Valley Inn

About
Opened in 1923, Ojai Valley Inn Golf Course is one of California's first great courses. Over the decades that the course has been open, it has hosted a number of professional players and celebrities ranging from Arnold Palmer to Will Smith. George C. Thomas, Jr., who created the Riviera, collaborated with Billy Bell to design the original golf course but Jay Morrish made the layout considerably more challenging with renovations in 1988. Ten years later, two holes from the original Thomas/Bell layout that were lost during a redesign following WWII were completely restored and incorporated into the layout. The challenging golf course is very narrow in some spots and it features undulating greens that putt fast and true. The layout is not particularly long but it requires accuracy and proper club selection in order to score well.

Amazing Classic Course
I love this course. It's not long but it requires strategic and precise shots to accomplish scoring. George Thomas is an all-time great course architect and this course is a testament to that. You start by playing out from the Inn and weave down into the valley and surrounding property in a supremely enjoyable routing. Memorable holes are littered all around the course and kikuyu grass provides a proper challenge from the rough. Strategic short par 4's, both short and long par 3's and tons of elevation change makes this arguably the best public course for the money in Southern California. Highly recommend it for elevated resort style golf.
Great Value and Amazing Day
They were working on the greens so we got a great deal to play an amazing course. The staff and course is top notch and always a pleasure. You really can’t beat a day at the course.
Wonderful golf course
A truly great golf course in every way.
Well worth the cost.
Not with the money.
Everything was a hassle.
Getting around the resort is a pain.
Nothing is near anything else.
So many non golfers walking on the course created a distraction to golfers and injury risk to others.
Took 5:20 to play. Tee times should be spread out.
Great course
We had a wonderful round. Traps, greens and fairways are in excellent condition.
Dramatic
I'm from Miami, so the elevation changes here were eye opening and beautiful. One of the most beautiful and interesting courses I've played and a tremendous value for the money in my opinion. One thing, they desperately need a ranger to speed up pace of play. This is not a course for beginners and yet we found ourselves behind a foursome that were looking for their balls on every shot. They finally let us play through on hole 4, but then we caught another foursome that was also very slow. No one on the course to manage this, sadly.
Forget your handicap!!
This is extremely challenging =which is pricy for me since my usual round is under $100. It is very challenging and all my playing partners shot at least 10 shots over their handicap as did I.
Having said all of this, I would love to play here more often and tame this course. This will have to wait until I return from Missouri.
Fast greens and fairways are beat up
Course isn't in the best condition right now for the prjce ($140 rd). Greens are running very fast and the course is not near as lush as I've seen in the past. Brown patches too
Great day
Beautiful area and a very nice course. Staff was excellent.
Great greens!
First time playing here and loved it. Staff was great, course was in very good conditions and the greens were darn near perfect! Birdies 18 to shoot 71, will absolutely be back!
Pace of play was like a parking lot on a freeway. Golf Now should give me a voucher to play for free on a day that they are not playing a death March tournament. Every three holes took an hour!! Ouch !!!
The pace of play was awful to say the least! The once a year player and snowbirds all showed up today with a tournament in the middle of the mix.
Pace of play - 5 1/2 hrs!!!
Normally this course does not have pace of play issues…but it did today…the price point normally results in far fewer golfers on the course…but today was packed…the marshall was MIA…that probably would have helped…one guy I was paired with called the pro shop from the 16th to complain…he said he was done and wanted a refund…and the course gave it to him!!! I quit after 17 holes and 5+ hours..didnt’ have the moxy to ask for a refund though!!!
Wonderful course and property
What a wonderful property. The course is fantastic, nice fairways that are nice and green. The greens are a little fast but not unplayable. The staff are so helpful and pleasant to interact and ask questions.
