The Architects Golf Club

About
The Architects Golf Club is a unique layout that honors legendary course designers including Donald Ross, A.W. Tillinghast, and Alistair Mackenzie. Each hole is named after a famous designer, beginning with Old Tom Morris. The opening par 5 pays homage to St. Andrews' designer through the use of the existing features as hazards such as the rock wall and the sloping hillside that the green is deftly carved into. One of the most memorable holes is the 13th, another par 5 that will give you a taste of what it's like to play Augusta. This Alistair Mackenzie-inspired hole offers many risks and rewards. Golfers will face fairways bunkers and a pond on the left and then a creek that runs diagonally in front of the triple-tiered green. Position is the key to maneuvering this tough hole.

One of My Favorites in NJ
One of my favorite courses in the Garden State. Interesting concept of creating holes with each hole being built in a historic golf architects style.
The new bunkers are fantastic
I brought my father to play during the week. The course was in great shape. I last played Architects in September 2021 and wow what a difference a year makes. They renovated the bunkers and it’s like night and day. The course was busy but pace of play was excellent. Staff is very friendly. We’ll be back soon.
Lots of missed opportunities
I've played Architects a handful of times. Course layout and staff friendliness is very good. Otherwise, so many missed opportunities to be better. Ball washers old and pre-covid were not always usable. No water on the Course prior to 2020. The range needs updating. For the price which is expensive, how are these little things not addressed?
Really enjoyed the course
I’ve always heard great things about Architects and it did not disappoint. Played in December and the course was still in great shape. Some very fun and picturesque holes. I’m already looking forward to getting back here in the Spring.
Wow. Great All around Experience
Golf course was in great shape, staff was extremely helpful, and the facility was beautiful. Very happy with my experience!

We are so glad you enjoyed your experience with us at The Architects! Thank you for the positive comments...we look forward to hosting you again in the future, and often!
Beautiful Course, Friendly Staff!
Architects Golf Club is a gem! Wonderful experience from start to end. The staff, both in the pro shop and outside, were incredibly helpful and professional. The views on this course are spectacular. Conditions were perfect. Could not recommend this golf course more!

Thank you for your kind words! We strive to provide service and nice course conditions along with an engaging experience for all of our guests. We look forward to having you back again soon!
Never playing here again
I played here last week for the first time in a few years and will never play here again. It was truly disappointing. Super slow pace of play, greens didn't roll true and the course was soaking wet. The course has gone way downhill over the past few years- it used to be much better. Not sure whose managing this place but they're doing a terrible job.

Thank you for your feedback. The Staff works very hard to provide a memorable experience. We hope you'll reconsider and return in the future.
This Course Sucks
Wow, this course sucks. Not worth the money. 7 of the 18 holes resemble soccer fields or open prairies - they're literally just wide open fields with greens at the end. Total scam of a golf course. You're better off playing other courses in the area, such as High Bridge Hills, which is 10x more fun and half the price.

We value your feedback. The golf course is defined with very unique features which are memorable. We look forward to having you back in the future.

Thank you for your comments. The Team works very hard to provide good course conditions and an engaging atmosphere. We look forward to having you return in the future.

If you want to have a horrible golf experience, then the Architects is the place for you. I have played at over 100 courses in New Jersey and the Architects takes the cake for the worst experience of all time. Staff, course conditions, greens, pace of play, driving range, pricing etc, were all horrible. Expect to pay for an overpriced round ($100+ on weekends) that will take 5+ hours. During the 5-hour round, also expect to have an unfriendly interaction with a staff member every three holes as they pester you about pace of play and cart paths. They literally watch you play. The staff is extremely rude, aggressive and unfriendly. It's quite obvious there are issues between the Manager, Ron, and his staff- the tension is extremely uncomfortable and makes you feel bad for some of the junior employees. Moving onto the course conditions - wet as a dog and poor maintenance. The back nine has a nice layout- unfortunately the tee boxes, greens and bunkers felt more like an abandoned mini golf course. Oh, and if you're thinking about hitting the range before your round, expect to hit 20 balls off concrete for $5. One last thing- don't show up early because you're not allowed to tee off until the exact minute of your tee time. Do yourself and your wallet a favor and play at other public courses -Heron Glen, High Bridge Hills, Neshanic Valley, Fox Hollow, Royce Brook, Berkshire Valley, Ballyowen, Wild Turkey, Rock Spring, Knoll West. Other lower priced courses worth trying are Beaver Brook, Green Knoll, Farmstead, Sunset Valley, Black Bear, Galloping Hill.

Thank you for your feedback as it will be leveraged to assist the Team of Associates with providing a better experience for our customers. We apologize that course conditions were impacted as a result of heavy rains leading up to the day of your tee time. Your input will be a guide for balancing our service standards with our on-course experience.

Great Course -- Awesome Staff
The Architects Golf Club is perhaps that finest Golf Club the great state of NJ has to offer and i have played them all from the High Point Monument to the Cape May peninsula ... this place is for the serious golfer who wants a first class -- country club vibe. The course is very challenging but very fair to the avid golfer. It pays tribute and respect to the great golf designers of the world. The staff is truly awesome and the general manager Ron brings class and dignity to a wonderful facility. The food five star quality and the beverage staff is first class all the way. Regina brought warmth and elegance to a terrific day. I have heard weddings and banquettes are top-notch. I cant wait to golf there again. They should raise green fees to attract the most serious and respectful of golfers. No need to join an over priced country club when you can play
The Architects Club ! First Class all the way !!
Usually a favorite course, but.......
I generally recommend this course to friends, especially if you can get a tee time midweek at a reasonable price. When the weekend rolls around and they jack up the prices, the experience goes from good to poor. First of all, the greens were spiked and top-dressed. No course should be charging full boat under those circumstances. You also can't be stacking tee times every 8 minutes. However, if you are you need to control the pace of play. 5 hours, 35 minutes for a round of golf is ridiculous. Some of the crazy pin placements and the fact that it was a windy day, did not help. I realize you folks took it on the chin during the pandemic, but don't try to make all your money back in a month. I have always liked this course, but I would only recommend that you play it midweek.
Premier Course in North Jersey
Architects Golf Club is the finest course in North Jersey. Everything is well maintained and aesthetically pleasing. I didn't have a bad lie the entire round. You can't beat the rolling hills and country side views. Architects is a very well managed golf course. The staff was welcoming and extremely friendly. All the amenities are top notch. I'm a big fan of the half way house hot dogs and the food served at the new restaurant is excellent. Looking forward to golfing Architects again ASAP.
Previous reviews are very salty
Let me start off with saying the course could be in a little better shape. However we had a tropical storm and a heat wave so most courses are a little chewed up. Yea there was crab grass but unless you want to play pine valley down the turnpike you will find some on every course. The greens need to be rolled but we also played at 3pm on Saturday so that’s also understandable. Yes the bunkers had some rocks in them and could use work but again not to the extent as the previous reviews have said. The course needs some TLC but don’t be turned away because it needs a little help.
The layout of this course is great. It’s wide open and has strategic bunkering on the left and right. The course is forgiving and the greens hold nicely. You really can’t get into too much trouble on most holes. Would love to come back in a few months in the cooler temps and hopefully some less play allows the course to heal.
Disappointed. Course fell off
Usually play this track once a season. It's always been in great shape, until now. Fairways gross and dead in many spots. Tons of crab grass everywhere. Staff that is completely infelxible-- charge us extra 25 for a cart because we want to ride seperate due to covid.. on a day with tons of carts available due to rain cancellations. Tee boxes and greens chopped up on some holes.
It's a great layout, but no where worth 100 to play in those conditions. Save money and get better bang for your buck at neshanic, heron Glenn, crystal, Riverview, or just about anywhere else. Won't be coming back
Not same as picture showed on site.
I booked by tee off at this golf course. I recognized they did not deal with tee off or golf now site any more. I’ve driven almost two hours from city. I had not much choice later day what if I want to play golf. I had to pay double price at the course for playing. I saw the review of this course as most favorable course in NJ but it was not most playable golf course. It seemed like just common golf course. Crystal Spring golf course is much more better than this Architect golf course in low budget. I strongly not recommend this course to anyone who wants to play.
Not Worth th Money
I am rating tis course based on expectations and its current rating as the number 3 nest public course in NJ. Base don that it is not worth the money. Overall conditions was not great T boxes where chewed up, many fairways had dead spots with just dirt showing, the greens were also chewed up. I have played cheap muni course a few weeks ago that had greens in better shape.
Staff is inexperienced (very young) and they wold not honor the golf now reservation because they only want you to pay them directly and their clubhouse is not open. SOP OI had to pay an additional $59 to play and then contact Gofl Now to get a refund. There was no manager on site only the Pro Shop Manager who was maybe 22 years old and made no attempt to promote the course of good will by giving us a break an honoring the Gofl Now T time that we paid.
Having said that I really do like the course and the layout ti just a shame that they have an inexperienced staff with no knowledge and that the course conditions are not up to the # 3 rating that they currently hold in the top 10 list of best NJ public courses. If you want o play a very nice course for the same amount of money do yourself a favor and play Neshanic. .
Terrible Staff
Do yourself a favor if you want to play a nice course for about the same price point as Architects go a head and play Nechanic. It s in better condition and the staff is much more professional. If you care to read they details of why I recommend Nechanic over Architects the details are listed below but in a few words, playing Architect was a big let down.
First the Staff sucks they are a bunch of inexperienced children. Secondly the current policy due to covid are wildly inconsistent. No one in the club house means that you can only pay online. I booked a T time via Golf Now that was paid in full Architects only wants to golfer to pay the T tiem fee to them. Normally this means that Golf Now would only change the reservation fees and the T time would be paid at the course directly to the course which is fine. But Architects will not allow a single person into the clubhouse even with a mask which seems insane since they force you to ride two per cart even during covid. In addition the so called Manager refused to work with us in any way. It was pay us what we want and we do not care if you were inconvenienced because we did follow up with Gofl Now to see if they removed us form their web site. I have booked 8 to 9 T times via Golf NOW during covid and this see the first issue I have had with a course. The young Pro Shop manager distention that we pay them $59 to play even thought we already paid Gofl Now $37.49 to play. They made no accommodation other than to get us on the course basically said it was our problem not theirs.
As far as the course it is a very unique and fun course to play however for the money and its reputation it is in what I would call mediocre shape. T boxes were all chewed up, greens looked like they have no maintenance many many pock marks/divots and in some cases spots. Put it this way I have seen better greens on many municipal courses. Many of the Fairways had patches of dead grass where only dirt was visible. Now these are conditions that you can see on many golf courses I just do not expect to see them on what is supposed to be the number 3 public golf course in NJ.
Customer Service disappointing
Booked thru GolfNow prepaid. Arrived at course and told they no longer honor GolfNow? Staff was rude and said we have to pay to play and contact GolfNow for refund. This was not our fault and the course should have made sure their course was withdrawn from GolfNow asap verse players not knowing and booking tee times. The staff were a bunch of kids who are rude. We wanted separate carts due to covid 19 and they said no. Also, we waited past our tee time to start when there was no backup. Customer Service is terrible.

Hello thank you for your review and feedback! Due to COVID the course is not currently accepting GolfNow or 3rd party bookings. You can book future tee times directly with us by visiting our website! Sorry for any confusion that GolfNow might have caused due to posting tee times that were never authorized to be posted to begin with! We do offer separate carts but only if they are available. A cart fee would apply if available and is dependent on how busy we might be on any given day. Sorry for any inconvenience you might have experienced and hope to see you back at the club in the future!
So glad we lived up to your expectations! Thank you for the positive review...The Team and I look forward to seeing you again soon.
So glad to hear that we lived up to your expectations! The Team looks forward to your return in the Spring!
