Worth it for holes 11 to 16 alone
Played the course after a lot of rain and only holes 10 and 18 were affected. The rest of the course was in very good condition. Holes 11 to 16 through the dunes are stunning and worth playing the course for these alone
Fast and true
My 2nd visit and I don't think I truly appreciated the course the 1st time.
Tees, fairways, greens all in great condition.
Found it difficult on greens because were so quick but that was my nativity. Pick a club less hitting in or 2 if have a breeze behind you.
My only gripe is closing 3 hole are a bit dull. Especially as there are 2 holes which don't appear to be used much which are far more aesthetically pleasing.
Stunning golf course
The course is beautiful from start to finish, a great challenge. Always in immaculate condition, club pro very friendly as well as all of the members. Would reccommend!
GOLFNOW Poor Service
This is not a review of Pyle & Kenfig GC (which I have played a number of times and always enjoyed) but instead a review of the GolfNow service.
Having booked and paid for a 'hot' tee time, and also received an email confirmation from GolfNow that my tee time had been reserved, I arrived at the club to find they had no knowledge of my booking. Unfortunately for us the course was completely full and due to current restrictions the friendly pro was unable to find us an alternative time. It was particularly frustrating to be told that the course was not currently open to any outside play and that GolfNow had only recently been informed of this by the golf club since a similar incident had taken place the week before.
I have since arrived home and looked on the GOLFNOW website to try and find a way to claim a refund. It is further frustrating to find there is no simple process for this. There appears to be no online contact email address/complaints procedure and instead I have to phone a chargeable number (which is temporarily unavailable) - hence my review here, which hopeful someone from GolfNow will see.
A must for winter golf
Pyle and kenfig links golf course in superb condition considering the amount of rain, a forgiving front 9 holes and a reasonably tight fairways on the back 9 makes this a great challenge ,polite and very welcoming staff, highly recommended.
Super fast greens
The greens were great considering the rain we had. Not surprising the winter holes are in play on the back 9. They are no where near as good, but definitely playable. Accuracy is key.
Fab course
Played this the day after Royal Porthcawl. Both are lovely courses, but P and K is much more forgiving- more fun, even though it poured down all day!
A great variety of holes
This course has a very different front and back nine - the front being more parkland in nature and the back nine a links style, with the back nine being more challenging than the front nine. The design is good as are the green and the pot bunkers something you really need to keep out of. Course signage could be improved and the welcome from the Pro was not what I expected - I don’t really think he wants golfnow customers and frowns if you are not a member of a club. Despite this there was a good welcome from members
Pyle & Kenfig
Really enjoyable afternoon. Nice combination of parkland and links. Fairways were rather bare in patches due to very hot summer but that was explained before we set out. Greens were excellent. Will definitely return.
Excellent course
Real value for money !! Really nice links style course, quality Greens, only negative there was a match in front of us and took more than hours to play
unwelcoming course and club
The back 9 looks stunning but is not designed to be enjoyed by the likes of me. The margin for error is too small and the penalties too severe - 5 yards from the fairway on many holes and you'll never see the ball again. This is a typical H S Colt design where you stand on too many of the tees without being able to make out where the intended landing area is. One or two holes like that on a course add variety but here it is overdone to the point where the enjoyment is removed. You need to play the course a number of times before you can have fun because you need experience of it to have any idea where you're supposed to be aiming - as if hitting the ball where you're aiming isn't hard enough when you can actually see where you are trying to hit it! I actually hit the ball quite well for most of my round, but the constant inability to make out the target area (particularly difficult where the inner loop of holes crosses the main course causing extra confusion with extra fairways and tee boxes) and a lack of marker posts to offer any visual guidance at all, detracts from the experience. Such a shame as the dunes offer a stunning setting for what could be so much more enjoyable golfing terrain, as it is at many other courses along the welsh coastline. Only the brilliant green complexes redeem the course. They are brilliantly contoured, and the mounds and hollows around the greens provide a much more enjoyable but challenging test of the short game. If only the course offered a similar balance of enjoyment and toughness for the long game. Sadly it is skewed much too far to the tough end of the spectrum to be enjoyable for a 19 handicapper. This appears to suit the club though, as I was made to feel like a second class citizen for booking online as a visitor unaffiliated to any club. Surprise was expressed by the pro and the captain when they learned I am not a member anywhere. Why shouldnt someone who chooses to play at various courses rather than the same one every week be able to conduct themselves appropriately on a golf course! I was made to feel that they thought I probably would leave divots everywhere and play slowly, because I don't belong to a club, and that they only wanted members of other clubs to play their course, and not just any keen golfers who are prepared to pay a green fee. Well I certainly won't be rushing back, there are many more enjoyable places to play than here.
Test of golfing ability.
All holes have different challenges but hitting your selected target area key. Putting distance, speed and alignment a must. Holes 11,12,13,14 very challenging. Allowance for the wind a must.
What a view
Great place , Staff and members very freindly and very helpful. Will play there again

Great bank holiday golf
Booked it for bank holiday Monday , the course was surprisingly quiet and we had no one in front or behind which was great ,we were very lucky with perfect golf conditions. The course is tough but fair and really puts your golfing mind to to test ! Some huge fairway bunkers and massive greens and great variety of holes ! Well worth the price for this course one of my favourites !
Game of 2 halves
Great front 9 and really tough back nine as hadn't played course before. Great value with tee off
Perfect day out on a super golf course
Thoroughly enjoyed. I am in the process of obtaining my handicap certificate. Managed to stay out of the many bunkers. With perfect weather the course played kindly.
Straight to the top of the list of favourite courses.
Also very walkable, with short distnces between greens and the next tee.
Friendly welcome.
Perfect day out on a golf course.
Great course - I had a similar welcome from the Pro, I don’t think he actually wants any golfnow customers
