Wow a must play
Amazing course, people, & service. Nearest you can get to links away from the coastline. Every hole is a challenge & views incredible.
Will play different every time due to the wind!
A testing, undulating course in very good condition for the time of year. With its hilltop location on Y Golfa, Welshpool bears its teeth in the wind, but also offers some of the best panoramic views I’ve ever seen on a golf course, alongside a selection of holes that would be considered signature elsewhere. Modest facilities, but at £25 superb value for money.
Welshpool wet and windy
Lovely course but a hard slog in the rain and the wind. Course in great condition though difficult to get the pace of the greens.
Rate it difficult
Age 69. Handicap 27. First time at welshpool.
As others have said this is a very hilly course. Many on the course were using buggies. we were not. Big mistake.
Being a high handicapper I found quite a lot of the holes needed very long carries to the fairways and found myself playing the second shots from the rough or loosing the ball in the ferns/gorse/heather
The fairways and the greens were well kept and fair. The club house was good and the staff very helpful.
Personally I feel you need to be a low handicapper to really enjoy this course but we still had a good day out.
Thanks to the very helpful staff.
Shouldn't have waited so long!
I finally went to play a round at Welshpool yesterday. Given that the course is only 30 mins from where I live, I can't believe I've waited so long to do so.
I wasn't disappointed. The course was in great shape. Well-maintained tee boxes and paths, and the greens were excellent - often small and narrow, but not so fast that you can't hold them with a decent approach. Loads of interesting holes - particularly the 12th, which has a 125ft drop from the tee to the fairway. The course isn't particularly long, but challenging enough for all abilities. As with all hilltop courses, when the wind picks up, it becomes very difficult.
Definitely worth a visit. I'll certainly be back.
Top of the world!
Amazing, challenging course with panoramic views. Greeens are superb and overall the course has enough risk and reward ti keep it a fair challenge.
Absolute gem
Considering the weather we have had of recent Welshpool golf course was in immaculate condition, absolute credit to grounds staff and the club alike. Staff friendly and nothing any trouble. Will return
What a course
This is well worth a trip to. Some really great holes that will challenge shot selection. The views in places are stunning and the course is well maintained. Good for winter conditions and will be great in spring summer months. We will definitely be coming back again. No range just a net warm up on but has a lovely short pitch and putt and putting green.
Winter golf at its best
Great winter golf course, short,, but challenging for all levels. Greens in great condition, course dry after all the rain, due to drainage off the hill, course at times feels links/ heathland, great winter golf with a difference. Staff are awesome, only down side is lack of practice facilities, small putting green with nets, but thats a minor gripe. Recommended highly.
A great all round experience
From the welcome from Rory to the post round coffee and bacon roll everything was simply excellent. It was a pleasure to play the course and the views are spectacular.
Interesting layout with stunning views
Interesting layout with stunning views. The greens were some of the best around. Immaculate. Very helpful friendly staff. Particularly Beanie.
What a pity!
if you want to hike it is a wonderful place. Gigantic view, very idyllic. But you only know you're on a golf course when you're on the greens! The care of the place is left exclusively to the sheep, so the condition is very bad. It is impossible for a stranger to find out where the fairway is, which green I have to allude to. Blind holes, no plan on the score card or in the tee box... what a pity! It could be a great golf course with few resources. We played golf in Ireland for 7 weeks, Welshpool was the worst value for money and the first disappointment. The only positive thing was the nice staff!
Love this course
If you enjoy a warm welcome at a hilltop course with great views and greens you’ll love Welshpool. Prepare for a long haul uphill after you’ve played the second as 3 & 4 will give you that and from experience, long on 4 is no good!
The 12th, which used to be the 18th, is a spectacular par 4 down across a valley to a fairway that runs almost perpendicular to the tee shot.
We played after some lovely spring weather so as well as being windy it was hard and fast, a real challenge.
Very friendly welcome.
Course hilly so tough walking conditions
Greens and whole course in good condition
Not very busy so no hold ups
Enjoyed the day
Great views
Some steep climbs - not for you if you have dodgy knees.
