Short Hilly Muni
Course is quite short which CSN lead to long rounds; therefore, be careful the time of day you play. Course conditions are above average for a muni.
Learn the Rules of Golf Etiquette
In the words of one of the staff that approached us about our slow play, "I'll try to say this as nicely as possible," learn the rules of golf etiquette! Generally, when you have a golf party that plays rapidly, the slower group allows the faster players to play through.
In this case, we didn't know that we were a bottleneck. In fact, we allowed the golf party that was immediately behind us to play through, after being warned by the Moon Golf Club staffer. However, they weren't any faster than us, as we remained behind them throughout play. We noticed that the golf party that complained about us skipped a few holes, otherwise we would have allowed them to play through as well.
You may note that I told the Clubhouse staff member that we were beginners, at the time of check-in, and yet they still paired us up with another twosome.
This was absolutely the worst golf experience of my life and I will never golf at the Mon Golf Club again.
'Good Muni in Pittsburgh Area
Played this course for the first time and I would say it is excellent for its price point. A lot of short Par 4s so you don't have to play driver on every hole. Narrow fairways but not super punishing rough. Blind approaches on a few holes. Greens were consistent throughout the day. Tee boxes were rough in a couple spots but not a huge deal. Layout is a little meh but the hills do help it out from being a boring course.
I would definitely come back as this is a confidence building course if you play off the tee well.
Still Improving
First play of the year here.
Credit where credit is due--this course has improved each and every year that the township has owned the course. Right now it is in the best mid season form it has been since the ownership change.
Greens are not fast but consistent. The few bunkers on the course have been maintained.
The real and continuing problem with the course is the layout, which is short and outdated. Even for a guy like me who hasn't seen 300 yards off the tee in years holes 1, 2, 4, and 9 are drivable. Holes 4, 9 and 12 need to be replaced.
Small parking lot and clubhouse but especially inside they are making an effort to make it better.
Great Course!
This is wonderful course to play, it is in great shape and the staff is very friendly and helpful. It's an easier course being that it's not a long course, although there were some challenging holes. 10/10 would recommend this course!
Public Course Great Condition
This course gets a lot of play. Its short but plenty of trees make it challenge. Greens are in great shape. I will play it again.
Too expensive for poor quality
I play this course often due to location in relevance to where I live. The staff is okay, never too cheerful and never rude. The course itself is small, pretty much a drive and a chip onto the green on most par 4s. I just can't bring myself to pay $42 for 18 when there are much better courses for much cheaper with better service!
If you're a beginning golfer, this place is a fantastic course to start out on!
Good and Not So Good
Play here frequently only because I live close. Course comprised of some unique and interesting holes sprinkled amongst a handful of poorly laid out holes, and couple awful holes. This is a relatively short and tight track with excessive elevation change that is prone to creating scenic views, blind approach shots, and bad fairway bounces. The staff however, does a admirable job of maintaining greens, fairways, and tees to make the course tolerable. Depending upon when you play, the pace is often very very slow. Also, leagues scheduled for almost all available slots to the working stiff- so don't bother to show up without a tee time unless it is late Sat or Sun afternoon. Heavy play on this course is not so much a reflection of the quality of golf, as much as the lack of locally available alternatives.
Public Golf
Felt compelled to put a review of Moon on here.
The last couple reviews were inaccurate and unfair.
Moon Township bought the course in 2005. The township owns the golf course but they don't give the golf course any money. So while it is a municipal golf course - it isn't a burden on the taxpayers like the county courses. The conditions of the course and the customer service used to be terrible. When the Township bought the course they brought a whole new staff in. They are doing a much better job.
We play here 1-2 times a week. We usually play during the week.
The staff is always very friendly. This is a busy golf course and they always try to help get people out.
The course is a little odd. It is well taken care of and they have a made a lot of improvements over the years.
I wanted to put this on here because I am a big supporter of Moon Golf Club. I live in Moon and want to see it succeed.
Keep up the great work Danny, Josh, Chris, Mike, Buddy, and the guys.
Expensive. Never felt welcome.
Easier than most local courses. Really expensive for a local muni course. $20 for 9 holes/cart. The price certainly does not reflect the course, club house or staff. This is the only course I have frequented where I have never had a pleasant experience with the staff. Unless you are part of a weekly league, don't expect a warm welcome. I've always felt as though I was inconveniencing them. On the positive side, if you are looking for a "pick me up" round to boost your confidence, play the front nine.

Better, But....
Moon Golf Course is in its 5th year of municipal ownership and has vastly improved in that time, but still has a way to go. The layout is on the shorter side with several par 4s driveable causing significant pace of play problems especially on weekends.
The cart paths are in terrible shape in several areas and are best avoided. Some of the carts are badly maintained. Ours barely made nine holes before expiring just before the 10th tee.
#4 is a 250 yard par 4 that is easily reached with a 3 wood and causes significant headaches with pace of play.
Because this is a municipal course the level of play is very mixed causing some interesting problems with tee shots three fairways over.
This course abuts Pittsburgh International Airport but is worth passing by in search of much better facilities.
Short Fun Course
I've played here many times. It's a short course but has some challenging holes. You may not need all of your clubs in the bag but requires some smart choices. Greens are in great shape and it's a fun old course.
I especially like their signature hole... number 18
I enjoy playing at Moon. It is not too difficult, yet still provides an enjoyable and challenging golf experience. Due to the lack of rain this summer, the course did show some signs of distress.
Great course for the bogey golfer
Shorter course made up for with some challenging greens. You won't use your whole bag, but you'll have your share of tough shots.
Thank you for this positive review.
Everyone at Moon Golf Club strives to provide a pleasant experience to our customers, after all if it wasn't for you we wouldn't be here!
We look forward to having you back again!
