An absolute MUST PLAY!
7 friends and I have been doing an annual 2 night, summer stay-and-play for almost 20 years. We’ve been EVERYWHERE worth going in NY, PA, and OH. 2020 was our second year at Whispering Woods, and with 2021 already booked, I’m convinced it will be our destination for many years to come. First off, an INCREDIBLE, first rate 18 hole golf track that you’ll NEVER get tired of playing. It’s beautifully manicured, undulating fairways & greens provide stunning views and challenging play. Lots of well placed sand & natural ravines to keep you on your toes. EVERYONE, from ownership to grounds crew, are friendly & helpful. Play is swift, no waiting. Our accommodations for overnight stay in the newly built cabin are top notch, ESPECIALLY for the price. Can’t recommend Whispering Woods enough. You won’t be disappointed!
Best by a Large Margin
Since opening, Whispering Woods has presented as one of the best public courses within a very large radius.
When it first opened, it was a stiff test of golf. Maintenance and a careful eye toward playability have made the course a great test of golf that's very playable from the proper sets of tees. WW has a great mixture of holes that go left and right, short holes and long holes, birdie holes and holes you're hoping to par, and all other types of variety. The par threes and par fives are all quite different, and the course does not lack for breathtaking views and shots that will both challenge and excite you.
The staff is friendly, the pace of play is as good as you'll find anywhere these days, and the course is in great shape with smooth rolling greens and well kept fairways and rough. The bunkers are among the best around and the atmosphere is laid back, friendly, and golf-centric.
If you travel to play one course this year, make it Whispering Woods!!
I can't say enough about Rich Rocky and what he has established at Whispering Woods! Rich and his staff are both very professional and friendly. We drive two hours to play this absolutely fantastic course every year. If you are looking for a steak dinner in a million dollar clubhouse, or a state of the art cart barn, this may not be the course for you. If you love golf, and enjoy playing on a course with no weeds, great tee boxes, fantastic fairways, perfect greens, and sand filled (hot dirt) sand traps this is the course you should play. Rich puts his profits back into the course, and it shows!! This course is in better condition than some private country clubs I have played, and has been since I played it the first time years ago. Go play Whispering Woods, I promise you will be back year after year too.
Excellent course
For as dry as it was the course was in great shape. Greens always fast and true, fairways when hit where green and plush. Highly recommend this place if you can get on
Best Public course in Erie
Played on a Sunday afternoon because the afternoon rate is better. The course is busy so there was heavy foot traffic on the greens likely due to previous watering.
Its best to arrive early enough to use their practice facilities. Its a tough course on the first visit so i recommend checking the hole by hole on the website and using a yardage app. Placement form the tee is key here and requires some thought
Amazing course!
Played here last Sunday. It was a bit hot out but the course was amazing. I took some of our rental tenants that were in town from our company http://erierentalproperties.com They loved the course as well. Will definitely be back!
Challenging test of golf
Played on a Sunday afternoon as a twosome pace was great on the front nine and a little slower on the back when we caught up to a group. Still finished in 4 hours though. Have a choice of 5 tees to play from so pick carefully as you will note the slope ratings are high due to the course difficulty.
This is the best course in Erie that we have played to date and it was actually a little hillier than expected.
Reading the hole descriptions from the website was very helpful in playing the course for the first time and we cant wait to p[lay it again.
We used the ranger and the practice green prior and it helped getting the feel for the green speed of 11 and they did roll very nicely.
Course demands care in club selection from the tee box and there a few forced carries some if which cannot be seen from the fairway
GREAT Course / Tremendous Value!
Course is in GREAT condition. Very plush fairways, very good greens, good layout. Mid-week rate in the PM was $39 (includes cart) for 18 holes. Great golf for the money!!
This course has a lot of character.
Very challenging. Well maintained course. Every hole is unique and very scenic.
Excellent Condition
This is a great golf course and one of the best public courses in the Erie, PA area. This course offers a wide variety of holes that offer risk or reward scenarios. The course can produce some high scores if attacked to aggressively, but can be tamed with a quality well thought out round.
A must play for those golfers looking for a challenge
This course is a great test of your club selection, manage the course well and you will score well. If you just drive every hole you could be in big trouble. You will use every club in your bag, you will need them. I have played the course twice now and both times were cart path only....would love to play this course when you can use the carts on the fairways could make for a more comfortable length of time to play. Still all in all it moves along well.
Great Course
Challenging. 5 sets of tees which gives the course a different look. played the blue tees which is a good challenge. Beautiful views. Love playing here.
Erie's best
This is easily Erie's(actually Millcreek) best daily fee course. You'll use every club in your bag. The greens are medium fast and the fairways are generous. Some of the views are spectacular(waterfall by the 4th green). Pace of play is always decent also.
Difficult course. Fairways soggy. Weather had front moving thru.
The course played difficult and very soggy fairways made it hard to find a firm place to hit the ball. Holes 1, 8, and 16 were killers. Weather turned lousy as a cold front came through. I would not want to play this course without a cart as its hills would wear me out.
beautiful & challenging
We played early in the day and kind of set our own pace. Beautiful course.
Simply Beautiful
The course itself is layed out very well and every hole is in and of its own beauty. WW is kept in pristine shape when keeping in mind how weather is in northwestern pa can be. Overall great experiences there.
