Diamond Springs Golf Course, hole 10 Photo submitted by TimGavrichGP on 08/19/2019
Very Fun Course
Played Diamond Springs for the first time with some friends. We all really enjoyed the course. The layout of the course is really unique and fun. They also only have a green cut, fairway cut, and fescue which is different and gives the course a cool look. The greens also had a lot of variety in shape, depth, slope, etc.
The conditioning of the course was really good. It has been hot and dry in the area for a few weeks, but everything was green. The greens were a bit on the slow side, but rolled very true.
I'd highly recommend Diamond Springs. It is one of the best courses in the area!
An Instant Favourite
Standing on the first tee I knew I was going to have a good time at Diamond Springs. The starter was incredibly welcoming and very proud of the course. I was a single and got paired with some great people. It was a fun adventure from start to finish. The one cut height from tee to green is the best thing I've seen on a course in a while and it works so well here as you transition to the next tee; everything just flows so well. Mike DeVries used the land so well throughout the property and the greens are so well done that you can't wait to play the next one to see what's in store. Just a wonderful experience at a fair price. Loved it so much I ponied up for a second round the same day. Can't wait to get back.
PACE: Perfect!
CONDITIONS: Perfect!
STAFF: Perfect!
VALUE: Perfect!
LAYOUT: Perfect!
Go play.
Enjoy the lion's mouth bunker on #2. Hope for a front pin placement on #5 (and good luck with that). Avoid the center-line pond on #6. Enjoy the 2 fairway trees on #11. Try to avoid the bunkers on #13. Do your best to figure out #15. And have fun with the ravine that comes into play on holes #9, and #14 to #18.
Top Notch
Well to start off this course was on my bucket list to play.
It took me about 2 hours & 20 minutes to get here.
Quite a challenge o play, so bring extra golf balls .
To start off they the staff of Mike & Travis were very friendly and helpful. 5 stars to them.
Almost forgot their newest addition of Caddie their puppy yellow lab course dog. Very friendly too.
They did the smart thing and checked you in outside, but under a roof because of the Covid. Very smart move.
Mike checked me in and was very hospitable & explained the course to me. ( My first time here)
When I was ready to tee off & was standing on the first tee Travis came out & explained the course to me in detail.
Warrned me about the ravine & the fescue in the latter holes.
The course is out in nowhere but is very quiet & serene.
Being by yourself & playing golf is good for the mind & is good therapy.
The course was in great shape & very beautiful & well marked. Toward the end the par 3 hole is a little confusing but was explained to me before I played so it was not a surprise.
Got to admit it was a tough course in spots for a senior but well worth the challenges that it presented.
Should you try if? By all means yes, what have you got to lose but some golf balls. The fescue grass will eat up some golf balls for sure. Hard to find once it bounces in.
Also the ravine from 14 on comes into play. Just play smart golf there stay away from that ravine..
Anyway the course is well worth the price & a great way to spend a summer morning.
I rate it 5 stars & will one day be back.
Put it on your bucket list too. Thanks to the staff again..
Great Fall Golf
Course was in great shape for late September, although a little damp following a lot of rain. Enjoyed the challenge the course presents, especially the back nine. Looking forward to my next round at Diamond Springs.
Terrible conditions
$42 dollars for a mid week, mid September round is highly overpriced. Tee boxes and fairways are all the same length, and haven’t been mowed down in probably over two weeks. Course was extremely dry and hard packed. Fairways hit would roll into the 8 inch plus rough. Greens wouldn’t hold any shots. Extremely overpriced for a course in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of September. Won’t survive the next economic downturn or the next two years. Never again for this guy.
What a gem!
Diamond Springs is one of the handful of courses I've played that has no weak holes. Each tee box provides a unique challenge that doesn't resemble anything you've done elsewhere on the course. The collection and routing of par 3s, 4s, and 5s, is exceptional. The way the land flows through the course gives it some visual flair and strategy. The short par 4 15th is now one of my very favorite holes. DeVries makes you think your way around. The greens are undulating but true. Throw away any hesitations you might have about making the trip to Diamond Springs. I'll surely be back soon.
perfect family golf outing
a great day on the golf course. our son was visiting from san diego and we had a perfect day of golf. course is beautiful, fun and tough. will do again soon with friends.
Golf Now Booking
The course is great as well as the staff! This review is for the Golf Now App. Beware of shared tee times when using the app!!! The staff was courteous enough to let us split our shared tee time with the other twosome.( they went alone as did my party). Would be nice for the app to tell you that you could be paired up with other golfers.
Senior Citizen Haven
Five Star course if it weren’t for the pace of play. This course is dominated by seniors, many of whom walk. So it can be painfully slow. We had a threesome and were waiting on the slowest twosome I’ve ever seen. These guys easily took 8 strokes a hole each. Today was extreme but pace of play is always an issue here.
Bring your own alcohol. Just hide in bag.
They did some vertical cuts on greens which made them a tad rough.
I’ve also played many times in the afternoon and the sprinklers were on. We just park our cart over them to block the water, although that did kill one of our carts.
Course layout is awesome.
Nice course, great staff
This was a nice course, good layout, good variety of tees. However all tee boxes were essentially just like the fairways; longer grass and not level at times. The staff, everyone from the starter to the workers on the course, were friendly. Definitely would play here again.
Might be my last time playing here.there is no defined fairway and the grass is cut the same height from tee to green.sometimes hard to find the ball in the middle of the “fairway “
Unique course and beautiful landscape
First time playing Diamond Springs after many recommendations. The course has an "up north" feel and is heavily wooded. I found the front nine to be nice, and the back nine to be spectacular, and impossible from the blues.
Two suggestions for the course - keep the tee boxes mowed. I appreciate that the course utilizes minimal maintenance to keep greens fees low, but they were pretty shaggy. Also, creating a blue/white tee card would be helpful, as it's a big drop from 6800 yds blue to 6000 white.
I play Ravines frequently down the road in Saugatuck. If the pricing was similar (offseason or twilight), I'll play Ravines. But for midseason peak weekend pricing, Diamond Springs is the far better value.
Unreal value on a course you could play every day
How good can inexpensive public golf be? Pretty darned good, judging by Diamond Springs. With a maximum rate for walkers of $35 ($52 for riders), it offers the type of thoughtful design with effective (though low-frills) conditioning that would make it a good value at $100 or more in a more populated area.
Mike DeVries routed the course, through, along and over some wonderful moderately hilly terrain interspersed with deep ravines. There is not a single weak hole on the course, though the somewhat cozy confines of the last few holes do stand out against the generous corridors that precede them. The green contours are a great defense, and require not just good execution but careful strategic planning if the strong player wants to card some birdies. Any golfer would be lucky to play here regularly, even though it's about a 35 minute drive from Grand Rapids proper.
Great condition, excellent greens
An excellent condition golf course
that's fun to play. Last 4 holes will
give you a challenge with its ravines
that run by each hole. I call them canyons.
Play Diamond Springs you won't be
sorry.
