Held up
The starter held our group up on the first tee for 15 minutes
Waiting for the 4th(single) to show up. Totally inappropriate to make 3 of us wait for 15 minutes because
Someone didn’t show up on time. On this day there were no marshals on the course to monitor the pace of play. The group in front of us were exceptionally slow and holding everyone up. The staff care not about running a good facility…..seems they are only concerned with revenue.
Day at the course
The weather was good, played with 3 golfers. Had a good time ,pace was good , and the course was was in good shape.
Too long
It is taking entirely too long to repair Nay. Starting with the mess of a fairway on hole number one.
An iconic golf location but currently grounds don't match up.
Played 2-24-25 on the Nay course. The Koiner course for the past couple of weeks has been closed to golf and being used for some Pokemon event, really. Maybe that helps pay the bills while it appears some of the course is going through some repair. It also looks like a cell site is being erected in the middle of the course. Between the courses being used for sporting event parking, music festivals, etc., the courses are not being cared for or funded very well. Fairways are dirt in many areas, there is machinery currently all over both courses. Granted, if you are a 10 handicap or less you can more accurately drive onto the grass in the fairway. (I'm a 14 handicap). Currently there is no putting green or driving range which also compounded the negative experience. You would think that a slight reduction in the cost of a round would be offered during this obviously difficult period for maintenance, but that was scoffed at by the older gentleman at the pro shop who didn't seem to have any sympathy for the current conditions. Lastly, on golfnow it doesn't mention the greens were being aerated currently, it didn't matter any longer because I had already pulled all my hair out by then. These iconic courses next to the Iconic Rose Bowl, deserve to be brought back to the standard envisioned by their original designers. It appears that my review falls in line with the amount of stars given by other reviewers. Thanks for letting me vent. I will come back in a couple of months to see if things have improved.
Brookside Going Downhill
Played the first tee time at Brookside #2 on Sunday. Hole #1, with dirt fairway, provides a particularly inauspicious opening. Although the conditions were quite terrible, it was cart path only. To top it off, they scheduled the back 9 tee times late into the morning, so once we got to Hole #10, we had to wait behind two slow groups. It's buckraking all the way around.
Construction and aerated greens
When the range and putting green are closed due to construction AND the greens have been aerated prices should definitely be cheaper.
Horrendous
Brookside course #1 is OKAY. But, because Pokémon bought it out for the day, only course #2 was open. The 2nd course was absolutely atrocious... Greens were completely sandy like a beach and no one in the pro shop said anything when I checked in. Fairways were mud and dirt, huge trucks coming in and out of the course it’s a construction site quite literally… most of the greens were under construction so the pin was on fairway grass… worst course hands down. I spent $55 on a tee time through Golfnow so the course couldn’t give me my money back. I left after the first hole I couldn’t believe my eyes. Golfnow give me my money back, this was the absolute worst golfing experience I have ever had.
front nine
construction going on the front nine. fairway was very bad.. back nine was a little bir better.
Horrible fairways and Slow play
GOOD
-Started on time
-layout of holes
-Weather was fantastic
-Restaurant
-Greens were fast and challenging
BAD
-No golf range available (due to Rose Bowl game)
-No putting green available
-Pace of play (Single player ahead of our foursome)
-Rough had lots of debris
-No food/beverage cart
UGLY
-Most Fairways were pummeled by the obvious parking lot the city converted them into.
-Parking lot closest to the check-in area was unavailable. No handicap spaces.
-Carts were not allowed into parking lot.
-Paid $75 for a course that was in the condition of a $25 executive course next door to an airport. One of my worst experiences ever.
Pass on course until early spring
Fairway conditions are inconsistent and suffer from use as parking for Rose Bowl during college football season (Sept-Dec). Greens were in good shape but very firm (approach shots, chips and putts above the hole were very hard to control. Bunker sand depth wa inconsistent.
Fairways will need a couple of months (Jan-Feb) to recover from parking damage.
