Stoneybrook West Golf Course

About
Designed by Arthur Hills Stoneybrook West is a roaming blend of gutsy, penal holes, picturesque par threes over water, reachable par fives (527 and 522 yards from the tips, then 578 and 605), and several short, sporty par fours that cover all corners of the site. Dramatically rolling fairways salted with Hills' trademark grass-faced bunkers, subtle elevation changes and undulating greens were all artfully carved out of native orange groves, overlooking Black Lake. Water comes into play on 12 holes; you'll find all 18 are distinctly different, challenging and memorable.
For those visiting the Orlando area, particularly the Disney World complex, Stoneybrook West is just a matter of minutes up the road to the north. For those who frequent the Orlando golf circuit, Stoneybrook West is a course that must be seen to be measured against the other name courses.

Golf Advisor: Top 25 Most Improved U.S. Golf Courses (2017 #18)
Reviews
Great course
After an ordinary opening couple of holes, the course is a great test of golf. The greens were immaculate although the surrounds and fairways need a bit of growth. I am a low handicap golfer and played from the back tees. It was extremely challenging but fair with one par 5 ensuring over 600 yards and plenty of par 4’s over 450. The ability to be able to hit the ball with a fade and draw would be great! The course was fair and rewarded good shots and punished bad ones. Whilst not as well manicured as some courses I would prefer to play here, from a purely golfing respective, than Celebration, Hawks Landing or Mystic Dunes. The pro was really friendly and welcoming.
Stoneybrook West
Close to home and a go to course. Great layout with improving conditions. Needs work around greens and bunkers. Course needs a ranger to keep pace of play around four hours. P
Fast Greens
First time playing here. They were backed up a little to start because of an outing but only by 15 minutes. The fairways could be better but the greens are fast. We did notice the sand traps are filled with a harder sand so had to figure out how to get out without skulking the ball. Tons of water to watch out for but just strike the ball more strategically. Likes the course and would play again. Golf Now has a good price for us to play.
Start 45 minutes late and 5 hour round
They let off two tournaments before letting regular tee times start
Very slow pace, crowded
Absolutely awful at spacing tee times, waiting 20+ on ever hole
Not The Best
Not much grass on the fairways, greens were skinned and wicked fast. Pace of play was terrible and there were no marshals out at all. Took us 3 hours to play 9 holes...we quit.
It was ALRIGHT
First time at the course. Was it very busy but we did have four groups of four in front of us. I rented clubs there were mismatch clubs in the set. And the craziest thing I have ever heard, they did not offer any golf balls with the rental set. Also, I have never paid for a ride along in my life but I had to pay for my wife to sit in the car and read her book. Definitely not a great first impression of Florida golf. As an out of state golfer that plays at least three times a week I would not recommend this course.
Stoney Brook West
Greens were in great shape but the tee areas and fairways were in bad shape and the sand traps were quite hard
I don’t think I’ll be back
Well Maintained, well managed
Course was in good shape and even with a tournament in the morning we started within 15 minutes of our tee time, which I feel was amazing.
The Good,The Bad,The Ugly
Played this course regularly and enjoyed it before it was shut down for several years. Bringing a course back from severe neglect, especially in FL, is a long and tough task so I think Stoneybrook West deserves some slack when it comes to a review. There’s a lot to like about the course and a lot that needs improvement. Overall, however, I would recommend this course at a $50 price point. The layout is terrific for one carved out in a residential area. It has strategic short par 4’s, some long and tough par 5’s, and a nice variety of par 3’s. The greens are extremely fast and smoooth but hard as concrete. So, several of the more undulating greens border on the unfair as goods shots can be penalized by rolling off! The fairways are thin, very hard, and somewhat spotty with many areas roped off to allow growth/recovery. For the most part, the tee boxes are decent with the par 3’s showing the most wear/damage which is to be expected. Bunkers vary as to the amount of sand and density. Finally, the rough on every hole can only be described as little more than spotty, weed ridden pastures. Pace of play was slow (4:40) the day I played and we never saw a ranger. However, the pro shop and cart staff seemed friendly and accommodating but they were so short on carts, they were ten minutes behind on afternoon tee times. With more money and time, Stoneybrook West could be a very nice track but, like I said, it’s worth a go now at a $50 price point.
Awful
Have never waited so long on every shot, on every hole. And when the (rude) ranger came round after 3.30hrs and asked if everything was ok, and I replied fine but very slow, I was told it’s Florida it usual. Well I can tell you we’ve played slow courses but have still been in, in about 4 hrs. Was told 4.30 hours is acceptable and actually the round took 5 hours. If the man had listened, the 3 ball in front of us would wait until the people in front had LEFTthe green, there was no way the could drive the green, then they would wait on they’re 2nd shot rather than being ready to go. If the ranger has spoken to these young men, and explained, the pace of play would have sped up. Not to mention these young men could have learnt a very valuable lesson.
Fun course
Greens were in good shape and rolled true. Fairways were playable, I normally move my ball so no issues. Rough was basically weeds. First time I’ve played since it reopened. Played on a Sunday it was perfect weather and course was packed so pace of play was slow. I’ll play it again.
Rude Golf Ranger
very rude ranger, I was paired up with another golfer we both had our own charts, the nice gentleman on hole #1 said it was ok. The rude ranger came to us on hole #16 and ask what are we doing in two separate charts, we thought he was going to ask about the slow pace play, the group in front of us was in no hurry. Turn out to be a 5 hour round. After the 18th I stop in to have a beer with a friend, when I came out the ranger was in my chart moving it somewhere. I ask where are you going with my stuff , his reply was this chart has been outside for awhile I need charts and he stood next to me like a police waiting for me to get my stuff off the chart. No need to say more very uncomfortable situation. Not sure I would say that was money well spent
Stoneybrook West
Course on the comeback. Each time I play it, I see more improvement. However, staff needs to remain vigilant, as some areas around greens are showing some deterioration.
Stoneybrook West
Challenging course. Plays tough in the wind. Kudos to team for bringing it back from oblivion. However, they need to stay vigilant as course is developing some issues around the greens and tee boxes.
