Solid course, disappointing winter conditions
Not a lot of reviews on golfpass, but I found the 4.2 overall rating to be fairly accurate. Solid course, nice layout, long from tips, lots of challenges. Can't rate it a 5.0 due to poor winter conditions and substandard practice area. Details follow if interested.
I came down on a work trip in Marina Del Ray because Arroyo Trabuco was selected to host a US Open qualifier this year (2021), and I think it will be an excellent test for the world's best golfers. I had a real nice day playing with two other local walk on singles. Very pleasant gentlemen and represented the area well. Proshop and starter very helpful in getting me off with no tee time. Found practice area to be very substandard - hitting off matts in SoCal very disappointing and complete lack of chipping area. Not sure what they'll do for the qualifier. The layout is a definite challenge. Lots of elevation change, this course will be quite a workout for players and caddys qualifying walking. Course is well kept, but playing in SoCal on dormant bermuda is just very sad and disappointing.
Gotta have green grass in Cali year round come on guys, we do in Az! Greens very challenging. Just about every one is protected by a high lip bunker, combined with not being able to see most putting surfaces from the fairway, you have to have local knowledge to play well here. Fairways pretty generous and room to miss, but lots of trouble off fairways - if you're too wild, ball will be dead, no searching for ball due to snake hazard. It's an out and in course, and you are WAY out there stepping to #10 tee, so bring lots of drinks and snacks, especially w/no drink cart. It may not rate 5.0 but very much worth playing at least once even if a little pricey for my liking. I think you'll be glad you did.
Great Courses - Rookie Mistakes
Greens cut a bit short for amateurs to deal with contour...ergo, pace of play suffers. Greenskeepers should be schooled in using the tamping ring on hole punch...all had upward extruded edges. Otherwise, course condition was quite good. Programming of GPS carts was rather annoying. Keeping nimrods from being too close to greens or harming themselves is fine..triggering in rough areas is maddening, and slows play...Staff is great....!
A fun, playable golf course.
If you're in Orange County CA with enough time to play a round of golf, Arroyo Trabuco is worth your time. It's a fine Tom Lehman designed layout with plenty of challenge for any skill level, but not debilitatingly difficult. There's a good variety of holes and good elevation changes. The scenery is very pretty and there are no houses on or near the course to detract from the views or playability of the course. The GPS provided on the cart was helpful. I definitely will play this course again when I'm in the area.
Fun upscale public golf with a particularly good early stretch
Amidst a highly populated Southern California Arroyo Trabuco is nicely tucked away in a quiet corner of Mission Viejo. The course's first 12 holes are its strength, heading up through canyons and along a series of ridges, affording both exciting golf and beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. Though the flattish final third of the course doesn't quite measure up, it's not bad in its own right. My favorite aspect of the course was the firm fairways, which include some nice on-ramp features feeding into the greens.
Also noteworthy: Arroyo Trabuco has one of the best clubhouse/restaurant/patio setups of any public course in America. It's a must to at least have a drink there after your round.

Excellent venue
Beautiful course with no surrounding houses. Lot of work repairing fairways and greens did not really bother. Enjoyed it a lot!
Nice course
Course in really good shape. Would have been a five star but a couple things bothered me. There were these yellow strings sticking up on the sides of the fairways, they were obviously there for a reason, but I'm not sure why. Also on the 16th blue tee, you have a creek directly in front of you with a big plant that kinda gets in the way of your shot. The 6500 yard blues aren't too hard if you are a good 6, 7, 8, 9 iron player. Beautiful piece of property with tons of wild life. Being on vacation from New England it's nice to see new animals like Roadrunners. Definitely play if your in the area.
Fantastic course, great value
Visiting from Illinois, I picked a great place to play. It was likely one of my best golf experiences.
The course is challenging enough to give good golfers a challenge on some holes, but the fairways are wide enough to keep the course forgiving for players with a lower skill level. The greens are well maintained and roll true.
The one strange thing is there is no turn after the 9th hole, but it wasn't a large problem as there a restrooms around the course, and the beverage cart passed us a few times.
The staff is some of the friendliest you'll come across at a public-access course, which makes the greens fees well worth the value. You won't come across better value in Orange County. I highly reccomend playing this course and look forward to returning.
Great value for the money
Been playing here for years. Been member of men's club for the past 5
Some of the greens need work. Weekend rounds can be long if you get stuck behind slow players. There's alot of places where balls can be lost and people spend lots of time looking for them
However, the course is very fun to play. Lots of challenging holes. In the afternoons, the wind can kick up a bit on the back 9 and add some difficulty.
I play here all the time. Pro Shop staff is great, and O'Neils bar and grill is great place to unwind. Your first beer is the cost of your score.
Food is really good, and lots of tv's for watching sports. Big fan of this course in what is a very over-priced Orange County Market.
Home Course
Love this course. Close to my house and I play it quite a bit. Great driving range and putting green. No chipping area. Make sure you call ahead to see if the greens have been punched recently (like any course). Fairways are in good shape and course has nice views and scenery throughout. 19th hole is a popular spot for grub, drinks, hanging out, etc. Big patio. Friendly cart gal staff from my experience. Enjoy coming out to AT, give it a try.
Love Arroyo
I played here last Friday and had a great time. Although the greens weren't in great shape, the fairways were in good shape and almost guaranteed a good lie every time.
Member Review
For the cost of a family membership this is a huge value. Preferred tee times and discounted rates that can't be beat. I play here every Sunday. I play from the black tees. The fairways are smooth and green roll true. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. O'neills is a great dinning experience for after round drink and dinner. There are a couple of things that could be improved. There is no turn at the ninth hole. So plan on playing 18. There also in no short game practice area. There is a great putting green and good driving range that is always into the wind so dont try and get good distance measurements. Overall Arroyo Trabuco is a great value for the money.
Poor greens
For 75 bucks, one would expects the greens to be in decent shape. 8:20 tee time and greens were horrible as if playing twilight on Sunday after weekend foot traffic. Won't come back.
Solid Track
Good course. I've been playing here since it opened. When it first opened the course was very firm, the fairways were like concrete. Now the course has softened up. It does not play as fast as before, but the fairways are more receptive. Good greens too.

Golf Course
This is an awesome golf course!
I am from Washington and cannot wait to return?
