WEEDY GREENS
Reserved tee time for foursome and had to wait for cart to be dropped off and cleaned. Practice green in fair condition. Greens on course full of weeds. Players not properly attired. Players not repairing divots or raking bunkers. Golf shop could sell shirts to half the players waiting to tee off as they were in tee shirts. So many weeds on most greens you need not worry about repairing your ball mark. You can't even find your ball mark. No ranger to patrol groups hawking balls in ponds. Last played here ten years ago and always hopeful of improvements. Sadly, no improvements found.
Courtesy Golfing
I play this course once a week and continue to be amazed at the number of discourteous golfers who do not fix their ball marks on the greens, or digits on the fairways. Also, the people who drive right up to the greens is appalling to me!! Nice course that will deteriorate if players don't respect the course.
Don''t Bother Go to a Range Instead
It's a shame to see what the City of Melbourne has done to it's courses. I learned to play on this course in the 1980s. This course has steadily deteriorated for years now. Had not played there for at least a year for the same reasons. Worse Greens in the County, If stimp meter had a negative reading these would qualify. The only things that were consistent on these greens was the amount of dead hardpan browned out spots and the number of replacement plugs in them. So many sand scoop spots, like putting thru a mine field. "Goose Grass" on every single green and sometimes was the dominant "Geen color" on them. The fairways did have nice grass on them but for 40 dollars you would have better bang for your buck at a decent driving range, which by the way would not be theirs either. Trying to chip and putt there is a total waste of time and money. I worked there as a volunteer 10 or so years ago and as stated earlier it's a shame. I know that my next round at a real Golf Course, I'll be blowing my chips and putts 20 ft past the hole.
Watch where you drive
I've played here several times. I like the course but the starter needs to ask people who use carts NOT to drive through the wet areas and STAY further away from the greens. If you can't walk a little you probably shouldn't be on a golf course.
If people keep driving so close to the greens and through the wet areas (this includes the lawn mowers), the course will continue to deteriorate and end up like Mallards, which is an abysmal golf course.
Playing on a sponge.
A very hot day with walking the only option. Too much rain days before. Since there are few cart paths they can't institute "cart path only". I'm glad they closed the course to carts as some of the "brainless" golfers, who have no common sense, will drive right through the soft areas and leave terrible ruts, etc.
Hopefully, the rain will help the greens recover!!
Playing again
OK municipal course. Played several times and it's a good deal for the $$$$ I only play 9 holes and it's a nice day with average fairways and greens. The lawn people and maintenance people need to wakeup and not drive through the wet areas and gouge the fairways. They can go a day without mowing. If the maintenance people paid better attention the course would improve greatly.
Needs Work, but getting better..
I took the Sunday afternoon to walk the Melbourne municipal course. I haven't played there in a few weeks. The fairways were in decent shape but in need of aeration. The greens and tee boxes were in dire need of work and major TLC. With all the rain they have received they have grown in some but need professional maintenance. The city has no clue on golf course maintenance. With the volume of players you would think they could invest some back in the course . I will check back in a couple of months to see if progress has been made, Needs work but getting better
Greens were terrible
My friends and I decided to play at Crane Creek because we have not played there in about a year. I noticed right off the main practice putting green was in Texas conditioning. It looked like someone poured acid al over it and you cannot properly putt on it. We went to the driving range and it needed work there was not even sand to repair our divots as a matter of fact the whole driving range was in need of majorly repair. When we tees off the fairways were decent but the condition of every green on every hole was in awful and non playable. I do not think we will return. The city of Melbourne should get out of the golf course business.
Sell it
The best thing that the city of Melbourne could do with this course is fix it. Failing that, sell it for building development. It is a disgrace in all aspects. The first clue is the practice tee, which looks ready to plant potatoes.
Save your money !
Just WOW ! This course has the worst greens in Florida. They have been punched and sanded at least 10 times since August of 2015. It is obvious that there is most likely a fungus that is killing the greens. Completely un puttable. They should be ashamed the prices they are charging for this miserable lil stretch of land. The staff is friendly so that is not a problem. DO NOT waste your dollars on this place. You have been warned !
Solid course at a great price.
Great price. Very good greens. Pro shop guy was rude. But the lady in the restaurant, was great. Very flat wide-open course, with several water hazards that made for a fun round. I didn't lose a single ball. Course was very windy, which just made the course even more fun/challenging.
Crane Creek
Played this Sunday in the morning. Was expecting a slow round but our thressome moved pretty quickly most of the round. Tee boxes and fairways were ok, greens were sanded though. Overall a decent layout of holes, not the longest course by any means. They had water jugs on every hole which was a nice feature.
Had a good day on the course
It is a nice course with a lot of play...not a lot of trouble.
Not a happy golfer
The course is decent very challenging green are the worse I've seen
Good Round
Coarse in good general condition. Greens were fast and in good shape.
course in poor condition
just went to this course to knock some rust off my game coming from up north and not having played for at least a month. it is a wide open course that is very walkable and good for seniors. it is a short course, if you can hit over 200 with your driver. I hit driver wedge on just about every par 4. the greens had been aerated and were in terrible shape, almost unplayable.
Fun course to play
Course isn't very easy and has some challenging holes
and is in pretty good shape.
