El Tigre Club de Golf

About
Located in Nuevo Vallarta, El Tigre Club de Golf enjoys views that stretch to the western Sierra Madre. The design team of Robert Von Hagge, Mike Smelek, and Rick Baril transformed what used to be a flat piece of land into a lush, tropical paradise. Nine water features were added, which come into play on 12 holes, and the terrain was molded and contoured to provide interesting elevation changes. The golf course's proximity to the ocean means that it is also subject to strong prevailing winds, especially in the early evening. The course finishes with two of its most difficult holes. El Tigre Club de Golf's par-3 17th has plenty of sand and water in play to prepare you for the beastly par-5 finishing hole. This 621-yard monster is practically a par 6 with water down the entire left side and a green surrounded by sand.

Posh
This is a nice course, and if it were in Palm Springs it would easily be in my top ten percent of public courses. The land is completely flat, but between the bunkering, speedy greens, mounding, and water water water, not to mention the ample wind, there is plenty of challenge here. Many interesting holes goving you plenty to think about. The course is surrounded by houses, but they are all new and immaculate, and if you like real estate, it adds rather than subtracts. Make no mistake, this is high end stuff.
On a practical note, I paid $112 USD which gives plenty of room for enthusiasm. I see the reg day rate is 400 bucks which is pretty otherwordly. The French Canadian couple I played with were lovely and said they are 15 year members, and gave a price which seemed great for that length of time.
I will come back, assuming we can do it at a number that works - which includes the 15 year membership. :-)
Always a challenge
El Tigre is a good test, even from the white tees. Plenty of sand and water to contend with. Many of the greens are protected by the numerous lakes and intimidating stone walls that will play havoc with any shot that is even a bit less than optimal. Greens were fast and some had some extreme undulations. Bring lots of golf balls.
A very nicea course
I have played El Tigre several times this winter and I like the course. The layout is challenging. Got a great deal on Golf Now which doesn't happen often. My only complaint is that the course is very dried out with very thin lies everywhere on the course. Greens are fast and tricky. I'll play there again for the right price.
Fast greens but slow play
El Tigre is in great condition. Wonderful sand traps and there are plenty of them. And lots of water to try to avoid.
The course was very busy though but then it is the high season down here. Still just over 4.5 hours for a foursome is a bit much.
The greens were especially challenging because they were quite fast.
Overall I really like the course but don't play here much because it is too expensive.
Great course, perfect weather, friendly staff!
My wife and I played our first round here on Valentine’s Day and throughly enjoyed it. The course was beautiful, well maintained, staff were friendly. We were pleasantly surprised by the extra services provided: free drinks on hole #4 and #14, with fresh BBQ beef and fish tacos, and fruits. Three holes had ocean views. One of the par three holes was surrounded in a little Island. The course was well designed, with water, sands, thick jungle like trees and beautiful flowers. We loved it and scored well, too. My wife got 82 and I had 86. We each made one birdie. Very much enjoyed the round and would love to come back again.
Great course & friendly staff
Nice course, great layout, friendly staff, and good pace. We had a great time paying there. The green fee was high, regular at $400, but we got a hot deal from GolfNow for $120. So, it was worth it. My only complaint was that they didn’t have enough golf carts. It was a scramble for the staff to find a cart for everyone just before your tee time. Once you got out to play, it was all good. Will come to play again.
EL TIGRE
If you are not using golfpass you are paying too much here . Prices are crazy here otherwise.
