Moon Spa & Golf Club - Jungle Course

About
The courses at Moon Spa & Golf Club sprawl across the rolling Riviera Maya landscape, incorporating all of the native wetlands and lush Mayan jungle. The golf course is Jack Nicklaus' first in Cancun. He created three different nines: Jungle, Lakes, and Dunes. As their names would indicate, Nicklaus took advantage of the diverse landscape to create three unique courses that offer different challenges but the same quality of design. The Jungle nine bears the brunt of the treacherous jungle growth. It is ready and waiting to swallow up even slightly errant shots. Golfers will also have to contend with the native wetlands that come into play on a few holes as well as the strategically placed bunkers that frame the greens. In addition to the 27-hole golf course, the club also features a driving range and putting and chipping greens.

Overall conditions
Great golf course with great conditions on most of the course except for the greens could have been better.
Expected more
Practice range was closed and we we not notified . Fairways were very wet and in bad condition. Greens were very hard and some with a lot of sand.
Moon Palace
Played 02/06/2025. Supposed to tee off at 8:30 but wasn’t until 9. Almost felt like shotgun start they sent everyone to first tee at same time so there were 4 groups stacked to start round. Also didn’t mention that hole 6 on Dunes is closed. Instead you get the option to play hole 9 on Jungle twice in a row, which creates an absolute disaster of a situation driving back to the tee box. 4 holes were undergoing aeration of some kind and there were giant piles of mud in fairway and greenside collar. Lastly - maintenance would continue working on the green when you were like 220 out. They would not move so you just had to hit and pray you didn’t kill them on approach. Round was $300US and should have been $100.
Great course and conditions
Good value for the price. Only bad thing was lack of food options. Sandwiches were soggy and tasteless, no chips or candy or power bars. Staff was friendly at cart area, bartender at 4th hole had zero interaction or personality.
Great Facilities, Terrible Customer Service – A Disappointing Experience at Moon Spa Golf Club
I recently visited Moon Spa Golf Club with a friend on the 26th for a round of golf. Unfortunately, after playing four holes, it started raining heavily. By the fifth hole, we decided to call the clubhouse to ask if we could either get a refund or a rain check to come back another day. The clubhouse staff assured us over the phone that a rain check would be provided, and we could collect it after returning.
However, the next day, when we went to claim the rain check, we were told it was only for 9 holes. This critical information was not communicated to us by the staff when we spoke to them or when they handed me the receipt to sign. Trusting the club’s professionalism and general practices for rain checks, I signed the document without questioning further. It was only the following day that I learned about the 9-hole limitation, and the staff used my signature to deny further discussion, despite their failure to explain the details at the time.
The interaction with the supervisor, Gabriel, was especially disappointing. Instead of addressing the poor communication, he repeatedly emphasized that we booked during twilight hours, which are cheaper than regular pricing, and that the 9-hole rain check was already a “special exception.” However, our tee time was at 12:30 PM, which doesn’t align with the usual understanding of twilight hours. This mismatch in understanding only added to the frustration.
While the club’s facilities are decent, the customer service is seriously lacking. The staff’s lack of transparency and their inflexibility, especially in handling weather-related issues, left a very negative impression. I advise anyone booking at this club to be extremely cautious with any documents you sign and ensure all terms are clearly explained upfront, as the staff may later rely on your signature against you.
Overall, while the hardware is satisfactory, the service and customer treatment are poor. For those planning a visit, particularly during uncertain weather, I recommend reconsidering or seeking alternative clubs with better flexibility and customer care.
Beautiful and Challenging!!
Great Course so glad a booked a round here. 3 different 9 hole layouts so definitely get your money’s worth. Would definitely play here again. We had quite a rainstorm and I still walked away smiling because I enjoyed it so much. Friendly staff and checkin was painless.
7th time playing
This course…
BRING LOTS OF BALLS - their prices for balls are insane.
Beautiful course. Great staff. Driving range, putting green and chipping green all right next to the starte area. Great design and layout. Carts are in really good shape. Semi- forgiving fairways. If you shoot right or left kiss that ball goodbye.
The courses well laid out.. it would’ve been a lot more enjoyable, but there was a lot of standing water. I played again if the course was dry.
Beware of Golf Now… total RIPOFF
I played this course and if you as a good course with friendly staff.
The application charged me $179.00 and then I payed again at the golf course. I didn’t realize that Golf Now doubled charged me since I was on vacation. I made several attempts to golf call Golf Now to get this issue cleared up, no answer.
Great course lotta rain
Course was in great shape yet. We had a lot of rain so some of the holes were closed and the mosquitoes were bad.
Moon Spa and Palace Review
Very nice jungle course. Make sure you hit it in the fairway as it goes immediately to jungle. Greens were fair and I enjoyed the course.
Well maintained, nice course
We played this course while we are vacationing in Cancun. The course layout is beautiful. We played lake/dune course. It was very well maintained and green is fair. The price was a little steep but including all you can drink/food.
Not Worth the $$$
Honestly, I expected a lot for a price tag as high as $190. I was astounded that the regular rate was over $300 and that price doesn’t include alcohol or food. It’s a nice course but not a $200 course, definitely not a $300 plus course. Let’s get serious here. Drop the price and stop gouging the players.
Great course if you can get a Golfnow deal!
We enjoyed this course and felt like it was the best of all the ones we played (Iberostar, El Tinto, & Riviera Cancun) with respect to course condition (nice fairways, bunkers, & greens), pace of play, amenities, and staff friendliness. There was a bartender on the course serving mixed drinks, and we enjoyed a delicious sit down lunch at the restaurant after our round. All food & drinks were included with the green fee, which was a nice perk.
However, the above assessment is based on the online pricing we received through Golfnow for $190 per person, which was significantly discounted from the rate of $310 per person our concierge was quoted when she called Moon Palace directly to book. Although we enjoyed the course, we don’t believe it’s worth $310 per person to play. Therefore, we’d highly recommend this course if you are able to get the discounted rate. For the standard $310 rate, we would suggest going elsewhere.
