Tierra Verde Golf Club

About
Located in a remote southwest part of the city, Tierra Verde is the successful result of Arlington’s Parks and Recreation Department’s effort to provide an upscale, daily fee municipal to complement the other public golf options in town.
Labeled with the new and prestigious Audubon International Signature Certification, this course was the first in Texas and the first municipal course in the world to achieve that honor. The certification signifies that the course was “designed, constructed, and maintained using wildlife conservation and habitat enhancement, water quality management, and water conservation.” What this means for the inconsistent hack is that sprayed shots are not out-of-bounds, but instead buried in a “protected environment.” Unfortunately, the penalty still applies and you’ll need to take your drop. The opening hole is a good example–it’s a basic 355-yard hole, but anything sliced right will find a plum tree thicket, which is the same as hitting it into a lake.
In terms of strategy, you’ll be able to enjoy the generous fairways, but the approaches will require much more precision. Look at the scorecard and get your pars in on the shorter holes, then manage your game to avoid huge numbers on the more difficult holes.
One of the better holes on the front is No. 8, a 518 yard doglegger left that bends hard enough to favor a severe hook. Watch out for the multi-level green and its deceptive turns.
Water is more prominent on the back, as you’ll see on No. 9, a short par 4 that requires a tee shot over water. The narrow fairway squeezes toward the green, and it’s nice to know that the green widens on the back side. The par 5 No. 13 is a birdie hole if you pay attention to the flag position on the huge figure 8 shaped green. This one has water off the tee, as does No. 12. In fact, if you’re short on balls at the turn, you should stock up. Water impacts play time and time again. No. 18, a long par 4 at 437 yards, involves a creek in the fairway that must be carried on the approach.
Other notes: Another bonus at Tierra Verde is the club’s three-hole practice course and lighted driving range.
Getting there : Take US 287 south off of I-20. Find Eden Road and turn right. The entrance is on the left.

Tierra Verde
From tee to green the course is in fantastic shape. I do not believe that I have ever been disappointed by the course conditions. I recommending using the on board gps units to see if there are any hidden bunkers or water hazards, because there are some. Depending on which tee box you play from you will have a few blind tee shots. Its always a fun time at Tierra Verde!
Beautiful but unfai
If you choose to ply this course, be careful about the boxes you play from, and try to play with carts or someone who knows the layout. I saw the amazing reviews and booked a round here for myself and 3 friends (all around 10 hcp). We show up to friendly staff and a nice range. We warmed up and walked the course from the tips. This course was great shape and very beautiful, but it was an unrealistic challenge for even a skilled golfer. Almost every tee shot was either blind or through a narrow window with almost no room for error. Good shots were hardly rewarded and fairways were lined with only a few feet of rough. Outside of the rough were trees to thick to hit out of. I believe the slope rating is far greater than 135. If you choose to play here, play up a box or two and forget keeping score. Appreciate the challenge to make expert level shots and stay in the fairway.
Enjoyable day
Course in fine shape, challenging and fair. Important to play the tee's that match your age/handicap...Nice track in a quiet area and will certainly return!!!
Nice course
This was a very nice course in great shape!
Course is in great shape
Really enjoyed our round today, the course is in great shape, greens were very nice. Very enjoyable round, definitely will be back soon to play again.
Hot Deal Tee Time
Paired with three singles. Round went pretty well. Check-in was easy. Plenty of practice areas. Course was in great shape. I've played this course twice and both times, no problems.
Soggy
I love this course so i dont want to sound negAtive- This course is awesome in many ways but not after rain storms. It holds water for a while and stays pretty soggy. So when they ask for you to hit from a mat or stay cart path only there is a good reason. Other than that it was great as always!
Great facility!
I cant say enough great things about this course, about the staff, about the amenities!! There is no need to break each part down because there really are no flaws here. If you play in the fairways and stay out of the roughs then it is perfect! Lush green soft grass that plays true. Challenging course with narrow entries that will spread out into very forgiving fairways. The vegetation has grown over a lot of the cart paths so it is shaded and very pleasant between holes. The roadrunners and coyotes keep me entertained along with many other birds. I will complain about one thing which was about a 3” spider that threw off my birdie putt. I would have figured one of the birds out there would have helped me out but no! Anyway this course is near perfect and you cant go wrong on a hot summer day coming out to this one.
Hot summer afternoon
With the temps around or above 100 degrees everyday you could expect everything turning brown and the dirt hard and cracking, not at Tierra Verde. Tierra Verde is like an Oasis made up of soft green rolling hills, fairways and putting greens. The tee boxes were soft so as you could easily place your ball without having to break a tee. The fairways were not all chunky and they not only looked good but played very nice also. The greens are challenging and true and played bery quick. There is so much vegetation that even on a hot texas afternoon you could find plenty of shade and it just felt cooler. The roadrunners kept me entertained as they were chasing down dragon flies. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The snack cart was running and easy to find. Pace of play was too swift, had enough time to play again (approx 2 1/2 hrs for 18). One thing to mention the bunkers were hard and unfortunately i had to play out of a couple but the best thing is just stay out of them. Also a little advice is take a little off your shots and stay in the fairway. If you start playing out of the rough you are in for a long round, as the sides can be pretty punishing.
If you want to forget about the texas heat for a while, come out and enjoy a round at Tierra Verde! From the staff to the practice facilities to the course and the amenities, five stars all around!!

Thank you for the 5-Star review. Happy to hear you enjoyed the experience at our facility. Come back soon.
What a great course
This is a great course..the architecture design and the conditions are unique around the area. The greens were areated and that made putting difficult but overall the greens ran through! The sand traps were a bit hard but manageable.

Tough course, but in great condition
The course was in great condition, but it is definitely a tough layout, particularly for someone who has not played it a lot. It was possibly the nicest course we have played this summer in terms of the quality of the cart, greens, fairways, etc. overall. I will say that the GPS-equipped carts are almost more annoying than they are valuable, but I understand why some people who do not use a rangefinder / GPS app combo might prefer them.
My 2 main reasons for not rating this a 5 overall are this:
1. The range balls are not included at what is a fairly expensive base priced round. We got this as a "hot deal" at $37, and at normal rates, it's closer to $50. Other courses in the area (Southern Oaks for one) that are in this price range include range balls. Now, Tierra Verde is a nicer overall course, but still, this seems to be something that should be included.
2. The practice greens (putting and chipping) were both closed. Given how fast the greens are, we definitely would have played better had we been able to spend time learning the greens speed and receptivity to wedge shots.

Thank you for the 4-Star review. We appreciate your feedback and management will review accordingly. We look forward to your return visit in the near future.
Greens Big Disappointment
This is a course I used to play every month if not week. The price has gotten too expensive for a husband and wife to both play on the weekend. And to go today and the greens be horribly inconsistent and bumpy and slow was a huge disappointment.

Thank you for the 4-Star review. We appreciate the feedback and will review accordingly. Hope to see you again in the near future.

Course is in great shape
They need to have water on the course. We all get everything going on with COVID-19 but it’s absolutely insane not to have water out on the course & have a cart girl who shows up once during the round. Unacceptable that they don’t have water out on the course. Texas summers are way too hot to not provide water!

nice day
Great course, covid secure and friendly staff...live far but try to play this track once a month...
