Golf Experience
We have played Paako Ridge many times over the past 15 years.
The new clubhouse and updates are all great, but one of the best parts were the staff that went out of their way to make us feel special.
The golf cart staff and especially the young lady, Lori, who waited who greeted us when we arrived, as she was arriving, but also provided us with excellent service on the 19th hole after our round.
We have played in many places and in many cases, the staff can make or break our experience.
Thank you!
Sincerely
Nancy Powell
Outstanding course....a must play!
This is the best course I've played in New Mexico by far. Course conditions were excellent and the layout is outstanding. Pace of play was awesome as well. I was able to finish a round right at 3 hours as a single.
The course isn't easy and you definitely need to play it a couple times to figure out where you can miss. A couple of blind tee shots and even a couple of blind approaches. But definitely a fair layout. The course is public but feels private but not in a stuffy way. Everyone is friendly to include the other golfers. I thoroughly enjoyed my time and will definitely be back.
Great combination of quality course and majestic scenery
WOW. One of the ten or so best courses I've played when combining the challenge and design of the course with the beautiful surroundings. Spectacular views from almost every tee and memorable holes. Accuracy is important because many fairways slant toward trouble. Greens are huge, lots of undulations, but rolled pretty true for early season play (Mid-March) I imagine they're immaculate during peak season.
One of the few big-buck courses I've played that were worth paying premium green fees.
It is one of the best in New Mexico. Fun to play. Challenging but fair. Always put it on the schedule when in Albuquerque.
Beautiful course
Awesome course. Beautiful views , great conditions, great pace of play. Challenging but very fun. Staff extremely friendly. Also it is about 10 degrees cooler up in the mountains so pleasant temps even in July. Highly recommend playing this course if you are in Albuquerque.
Awesome Course in Excellent condition with Beautiful Views
This was my first time playing this course and if I am ever in the Albuquerque area again, it will not be my last time playing the course. I loved the course and the conditions were superb.
It is hard to believe this is a public course. I have played MANY private country clubs which do not have near as nice course maintenance, conditions and near as nice course layout and views. Course conditions were some of the best I've seen the past several months.
The practice area was great (nice range and nice balls to hit, nice putting green and very nice chipping area along with practice bunkers).
The course layout is awesome all the holes are in and among-st the the mountains and valley with BEAUTIFUL scenery. The greens were superb as were the fairways, tee boxes and bunkers. The fairways were lush and firm. The greens were great and ran very smooth with very few non-repaired ball marks. On the greens there are lots of ridges, valleys humps and mounds along adding to the fun and challenges of the greens. Many of the greens have two or three tiers which also adds to the fun and challenge of the course.
From par 3s to 5s you never felt like you played the same hole twice. If you get off the fairways and outside the rough you are in the desert and in among the weeds and cactus.
Great course. I would highly recommend playing Paa-Ko Ridge.
Over priced!
I have played this course every time I visit my family in Albuqueruqe. The course is great and it offers a good challenge to most players. This year however will be my last. The course was recently purchased by a new ownership group and they have raised the rates to $140 per person. This is way too much considering that Albuquerque offers great courses on the Indian reservations and the UNM Championship course. Honestly I cant see how this course will stay in business without changing its rates. I can go play a TPC course (TPC Louisiana)for less than what I would pay here.
The only advise I can give the owners is to not price themselves out of the market.
WOW!
It’s hard to believe this is a public course. The views are spectacular, the course is in great conditions with playing as difficult as you want it. This will be a must on our New Mexico yearly golf outing.
Spectacular views
Paa-Ko Ridge was a true 5 star facility. The drive up to the course from ABQ for a 1st timer was an experience in itself. Beautiful homes surrounding the course and oh those beautiful Sandias. I played 1-18 holes (the original 18). Course conditions were some of the best I've seen. The altitude has let the bent grass grow green and thick. Rough was cut nicely, but very thick. Greens rolled very true and were a good speed for the undulation of the greens. Play to the correct tiers or have a wild putt all over this place. Hole variety was extremely good. From par 3s to 5s you never felt like you played the same hole twice. If you really spray the ball this course will be difficult. Length is not an issue due to the altitude of 7,000+ feet. Costco gift cards can be bought for members to receive 100 for 80 dollars to save a little. Great play. Must play. Go and enjoy.
Fantastic
Spectacular course with incredible views. Very challenging, especially with windy conditions, but enjoyable. Look out for the bunkers! I spent a large chuck of my day in the bunkers. We played on a Friday in March and practically had the course to ourselves.
I loved this golf course. I played here three times in March 2017. The weather was perfect and the course was immaculate. Tremendous views. Course was not crowded at all during the week and staff was super friendly. They also have a great, reasonably priced grill if you just want to enjoy lunch. Really hope to go back soon.
Tough and Lonely
I would consider this the top course in Albuquerque/Santa Fe area for it's great layout and superb greens, and great views. You need to bring your "A Game" or you shouldn't even consider playing;especially when the wind picks up. Also, a rangefinder is a MUST! Course is in the middle of no where and if you have time, it's a beautiful drive. Most of the ALB locals I meet won't play it because it has a reputation for having a rude staff and local high roller residents who want the course for themselves. I've experienced this myself as a single where twice in one round 2 groups wouldn't let me join them and one guy gave me a hard time for sharing the same hole with him on the practice green: and I'm around a 5 handicap, so think I would know a little about golf etiquette. Pricing for NM but not compared to Scottsdale during the winter. The back 19 is top notch!
New Mexico Gem
Paa-Ko Ridge is the best course in Albuquerque and with Black Mesa, the best course in the state. This course will challenge you with its bunkering, multi-tiered or divided by a ridge greensites and demand for many types of shot shapes. This course is loved by my scratch golf friends as well as people who don't even carry a handicap; that is quite an endorsement. The facilities are well maintained, the staff is friendly and I played 36 holes on all 3 layouts in 6 1/2 hours.
The course itself has 3 nines, of which I prefer the 1st and 2nd nines. The third is still good, but the first and second are great. Holes play in all directions, the first nine has a drivable par four that if done well could result in birdie or even eagle, but make a mistake and double bogey comes into play. Par 5s vary in that some are definite three shotters and others are reachable in two if your game is on. It is a 50-50 split between those two. Being a course in the mountains there are elevation changes on a few holes on each nine and the uphill/downhill holes vary between being 1, 2 or 3 shotters so it doesn't become repetitive.
The conditioning at Paa-Ko is great. Fairways and greens are in excellent shape. The course has a practice green, driving range and a short game practice range. There is also a full service restaurant on site.
If you are in the Albuquerque/Santa Fe area, Paa-Ko Ridge is a must play. Enjoyed by all handicaps.
Scenic tract
Well maintained, scary long, terrific scenery. This remote layout with 27 holes can play to over 7600 yards. The course runs through dense cedar trees and scrub brush with lots of elevated tee boxes and/or greens. The courses are part of an upscale housing community, but for now, there are very few homes near the course, which makes for a terrific golf outing. Did I mention the views? Great views in all directions. Beautiful! By the way...I played mid-week and the senior rate was only $47.20. Quite the bargain that included unlimited range balls, cart and greens fee. They will let you play the other nine for only $15 more. (low season rates). Hit 'em straight. FORE!
