Hill Country Golf Club - Creeks/Oaks

About
The Creeks Nine is one of three courses at the Hill Country Golf Club. Named after the creeks that meander through the layout, this course demands accuracy with water coming into play on several holes and numerous strategically placed bunkers. There are also wooded ravines and a variety of elevation changes to keep golfers on their toes. The Oaks Nine is named for the towering oaks that blanket the course. The courses are situated on over 200 acres of scenic Texas Hill Country, giving them each a beautiful landscape of rolling hills and lush meadows dotted with native oak trees and clear blue lakes. Hill Country Golf Club is also home to a driving range and putting green on addition to the three nines.

Creek Course #9 Photo submitted by GreerGolf on 06/06/2017
Greens were ok but course not well maintained.
Poor fairway and rough conditions. This may be partly due to time of year (not from this area). Layout of some holes is poor. Quite a few of the par fours are short layup holes.
Course conditions were terrible. Tee boxes like sand traps. Temporary holes and did not notify you before hand of them. Very unprofessional.
The course is getting old
The best way to describe it is to compare it to the Excalibur in Vegas. 25 years ago Excalibur was a top hotel in Vegas, now it’s a cheaper place to stay. The course is the same, 25 years ago the course was one of the best in San Antonio, now age has taken its toll. The price is high for the condition of the course.
Course conditions were terrible. First tee box was like hitting out of a sand trap. Several fairways were shortened or closed and not to notify players before they they make a tee time is unprofessional
Rude Staff,,,horrible greens and tee boxes
Disappointing…
We were really excited to play this course. Unfortunately, upon arriving the starter wasn’t at all helpful. We had no idea that the course was a split up (9x3) layout. We asked the starter for directions to the range. Apparently, this was as simple as “It’s right behind this construction. Just follow the path past the white sign.” We wrongfully assumed that it would be a straightforward quick cart ride around some construction. After 10 mins of driving around the course and finally finding the range we realized we had no idea what course we were starting on. One would hope the front desk would tell you or maybe the starter would mention where we should tee off for our first hole…but not one person thought to give any direction at all.
We called the front desk who sent a Marshall out fairly quickly. Seems like maybe just a hiccup. After another 10 mins drive back to the first hole the Marshall, Dean was not only rude in how he addressed us, he seemed annoyed when we asked what we should do after the first nine holes…because you know…it’s not an 18 hole course and the layout is incredibly difficult to navigate with all of the construction. He finally managed to explain that we needed to check back in with the starter after the front 9 to be assigned a back 9 to play. Again, not a normal golf experience.
Course conditions were worse than any local municiple course I’ve ever played. Greens had patches of overgrowth in sections and large divots (like someone took wedges off of them) in other sections. They must have built these up with a ton of sand because played like concrete in most cases. We could hardly get our tees in most of the tee boxes and gave up on more than one occasion.
On top of the above, Rick (maybe a starter..maybe a bouncer?) seemed annoyed on both occasions we dealt with him. Asked him where to go after the front 9 and he vaguely pointed in a direction and said “Don’t pair up with anyone” because we paired up on the front 9 and I guess that’s not ok here? Saw him again after the incredibly unremarkable back 9 and he barked “park your cart right there!” Again vaguely pointing in a general direction.
Every hole on this courses terrible greens was cut on a side slope for this occasion. As if the greens keeper wanted to cap off this wonderfully mediocre experience with a big middle finger to whosoever dared to play this awfully kept course. It’s truly a shame. This course has potential. The layout makes you think and while a short course, it has some fun challenging positions to play. Unfortunately, they should probably fire the agronomist, maybe the greens keeper, definitely Rick, and maybe give the Marshall, Dean a hug or something.
Great Day
Fantastic despite the construction. Greens are fast. Fairways in great shape!
Would stay away while they are remodeling the course. It's a mess.
Course Greatly Affected By Construction
There is just too much construction going on at this site. Three holes had shortened temporary greens due to this construction. Very hard to get around from one hole to another due to required detours. Signage with directions was a bit confusing.
Course also was in poor shape due to drought condition.
Course under construction
Please note on your website that this course is under repair. Lots of temporary holes! Definitely not worth the cost at the moment. I’m very disappointed in the course and you would help your client tell if you marked that it was under repair when people reserve teetimes.
Under Construction
There is major construction going on, which wasn’t mentioned when I booked. You can tell under normal circumstances it’s a nice course and I would play it again. A few of the holes had makeshift tee boxes and putting greens. Some of the signing could have been more prominent.
I understand the course is under construction but it was confusing several times as to where is the next hole. I would love to play again when construction is complete. I played the Oaks and Lakes. Did not use the off course amenities.
Wait til construction is complete’
OK, they are building a lagoon and apparently moving some holes. But the course is a mess. Several par 4 and par 5 holes are now par 3. The way finding is terrible. We spent as much time trying to find the next hole as we did playing golf. We never did find the 18th hole. Just gave up and quit in frustration.
My issue is why there was nothing on GolfNow to let us know the course was under construction. We could have found another location. I think it’s wrong on the part of both the Hyatt AND GolfNow.
Horrible Experience/Cavaet Golfer
Horrible experience, all holes were cart path only. Pathetic impression left with my guest from Canada.
You need to be more honest on your Golf Now sales and tell us no practice range and the construction impact on 2 9th hole closing greens.
Expected more for the price and hype
Course rebuild is causing confusing hole locations.
Greens were tall.
This course would have to be heavily discounted again before I play it again.
In process of remodel
Unbeknownst to me the course was under going a resort remodeling and routes around holes and many holes were temporary greens or changed completely.
Not sure if remodeling will be an improvement for golf as much as the reaort.
