The Highlands Golf Course

About
The Highlands golf course is one of three courses owned and operated by Meadows Country Club. In addition to the Highlands and Meadows Courses, there is also the Arthur Hills-designed Groves Course, an 18-hole executive course. The Highlands Course has an "old Florida" layout equipped with plenty of trees and water that tumble across gentle hills. You'll be playing through majestic oaks and towering pines as you take on this challenging-but-fair test. Narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens demand accuracy but generously the reward well placed shot. The golf course finishes with a tricky par 4. Your tee shot will to be straight and accurate to avoid the fairway bunkers on the left and right, positioning you for a mid iron back into a green that sloped front-to-back and guarded by bunkers on both sides. There is also a lake to the front left.

The course was way overbooked. Pace of play was horrible.
Highlands
Given the prices they charge, it should be in better shape. Tees and greens are not good. Bunkers could also use work I think it’s a great layout, but it’s clear the course has been neglected
Good layout but!
While the layout is competitive and the bunkers have improved , the greens on the front 9 are choppy making putts impossible.
Beautiful Day
The club drop was painless. We prepaid so all we needed was a receipt.
We were directed to the first tee past the water/ice station and snack bar. Both well stocked.
The range was members only 😒 but the had hitting bays to warm up and nice chipping/putting green. We were paired with an awesome Scotsman and we were off. The layout was straightforward with a few strategic traps to keep it interesting. Well kept fairways saw a few of my tee shot and transitioned nicely around the greens. While the ball rolled smooth, our misses were mostly due to a strong grain that we failed to read.
The course was empty on a warm afternoon; snowbirds must be heading home. Lower rates soon?
Highlands course is solid
Not a beginner course and not an expert course. One of the nicer courses I’ve played in the SRQ area. Would recommend.
2 different 9s
Front 9 greens in rough shape. This course has had this issue for years and can't seem to solve it. Back nine much better. A shame because it can be a fun course.
A good day on the links
It was a good round though the course needs some attention
Fun course. Some greens were pretty rough
Fun course and great layout. Lots of tee box options.
Greens were mostly fast and consistent but many of them had some serious. If you weren’t putting through a rough spot you get a good roll.
It was a good value at twilight rates. Peak rates looked a little steep
Catering to Money
The Highlands was the third course in this golf development. It was apparent that they were the step child as all the care and conditioning went into the other two courses where the members play.
Conditions
Very disappointed with the condition and the cost of the green fee.
A waste of good money!
I cannot believe the course has the nerve to charge what they do based on the condition.
There are greens with holes in them, not just missing grass which is common. Very little grass to hit off of in the fairways. Very disappointing!
Highlands course
I’ll just say the only negative playing here are the slow greens. If the greens were as fast as the practice green this would be a hidden gem!
