Awesome and fun
I played a outing here and had to return. The greens are the best I have played so far in the area. The speed is fast the pins placements are crazy hard. The putts are never straight always break. The layout is fun and open I will play here alot this season.
A challenge
Course is in good condition, gets better with better weather. Greens are insanely tough. Have to crisply plan your shot around the green lol. But the course is awesome, I’ll definitely come back and try to beat my score from last time!
Deerbrook golf
Really enjoyed our round course was in good shape. Pace of play was real sketchy. When we made the turn at 9 there were new golfers on the tea box at 10. Course is challenging. Greens putted well but had some trouble spots.
Slow
Deer Brook is a great layout. Pretty long from the white tees for me. But the fairways are pretty wide and so are the greens. The greens are very undulating and often divided into 2 or 3 distinct sections. If you are above the pin or in the wrong section three putts are easy to make. Today was extremely windy and the greens were very firm and fast making it a tough day on a course that is pretty tough anyway. The fairways are still dormant and they were firm today too. It was a really tough day to control the ball. The only complaint is it was a very slow round. I expected it on Saturday afternoon. So I knew what was coming. But I tied off slightly before 2 and we finished at 7. 5 hour rounds are really tough especially in today’s conditions. I have played there a lot in the past. And I will say that this course is usually in really good shape. And I believe it’s a great layout. It’s definitely worth the going rates that they are charging in comparison to other courses. Just know if you go on the weekend it’s going to be a long slow round.
Nice course
Really fun course. Staff very pleasant but they need to check the high school team for etiquette. They started on the front 9 but lo and behold, we our foursome ended up finding them on hole 17 where there trailing (walking) 5 "got a lot of practice!" Unfortunately, we were unable finish the last two awesome looking holes.
Great course…needs new white tee rating
Such a great course. Always in great condition and play is always fast. My only critique is the rating of the white tees. It should be a 72 😝…it’s a tough course…especially the greens. There are very very few flat putts on the course and many of the greens have major undulations. For the price, it’s one of the best courses in the Charlotte area!
Avoid
AVOID THIS COURSE. This course is not worth paying full price. Riverbend (also in Shelby) has much better greens and manages their course better. Deer Brook’s Pro shop is unprofessional. I prepaid for a tee time (hot deal)… my playing partner and I drove an hour (separate cars) there only to find the course was closed - with no notice. The assistant pro said they would call me back, but I never heard from them. We weren’t able to play golf that day because of their screw up. They tried to blame GolfNow, but it was clearly their fault… not GolfNow’s. No accountability. No apology. No resolution. I recommend playing somewhere else.
Fast Greens
The greens were fast. Words of advice, “stay below the hole”. Downhill putts will not stop
Great experience
I was just passing through town and found this place in short notice. I had a great experience and would highly recommend. Course was in great shape and I had a lot of fun
Nice course
Fairways and roughs in good condition. Sand traps were raked but not fluffy. Gteens held the approach shot, were medium speed, rolled true.
I really enjoyed the golf course. The greens need a little work but we think probably had trouble w the storm. Hopefully the greens will be better the next time we play. We will be back for sure. Worth the 1 hour drive to play.
Challenging Course
Fairways and roughs in good shape. Greens held the approach shot very well, lots of non-repaired ball marks from previous players, rolled true, were medium/fast speed. Sand traps were well raked but not very deep sand (they need to be deep raked!). Overall experience very pleasant.
Great layout
I enjoyed the layout and pace of play.
Conditions were all good. The greens were a little damaged in spots but hold, roll good, and are fast.
All workers inside and out were great. The price very reasonable. Will play again and recommend to others.
Good Public Golf
Deer Broom is good public golf at a decent value. The price has risen over the years but that could be said for golf in general. The layout is a tough challenge for the average golfer. The fairways are generous enough. But there are several forced carries, elevation changes and putting and chipping around the greens is rather tricky. The course is also pretty long from the white tees coming in at over 6400 yards. The course was in good shape. Several greens were showing the wear and tear of a hot summer. The bent grass had several bare spots that should improve with cooler weather. But the fairways and tee boxes were nearly perfect. It’s well worth a play and a decent value.
The reason this happened to you s because they do not have a PGA professorial staff at this club. A couple of guys who pretend to know what they are doing when running the club. This club is pretty much run at the whim of the members.
