Crescent Oaks Country Club

About
Located just north of Tampa in Tarpon Springs, Crescent Oaks Country Club sprawls across rolling hills dotted with sparkling lakes. The narrow course has a traditional layout that was carefully carved from dense woodlands, making it a challenging test. The lakes as well as a meandering creek come into play throughout the golf course. There are also a few strategically placed bunkers along the greensides. The par-5 10th is one of the most memorable holes with an elevated green and a ridge cutting across the middle. Par is considered a good score on this tricky hole. The golf course finishes with a par-4 dogleg left that features water along the entire left side of the fairway. The green is also protected by sand on the right and water on the opposite side.

Needs better grounds maintenance
I have played this course before many times, but lately the tee boxes and greens have been subpar. There are BIG dirt patches at tee boxes and several greens with bare patches and weeds. $70 as a reduced rate would be acceptable if the grounds reflected it. If I’m honest I will play this course again, but it will not be a top 6 choice for me, especially if the course stays status quo.
return
Had not played CO for a while. Fairways and greens were in very good shape. Especially for late spring in Florida (dry season). We arrived early, but since there was no line, the starter let us get right out.
Pace of play
I called earlier that day to confirm when the best time to go would be if I didn't want to be in a crowd. I was told 354 p.m. would be the best time because it would begin to slow down.
This day I finally got my wife to come with me. Needless to say she doesn't want to come back or go golf with me ever again because we only got to do six holes in 2 hours and 45 minutes before we left. It was stacked up in front and behind us all the way.
I'm pretty sure the reason it's so packed all the time is because they have a 79 dollar a month unlimited golf deal.
Never going back.
Surprisingly Poor Condition
Have played Crescent Oaks several times over the last several years but this was my first time here since last summer. It will be my last time as well since it isn't even worth half the price I paid, which was less than the standard rate. The lousy experience started on the driving range as MATS seem to be on the way to becoming increasingly popular in some courses in the region, even though the cost for a round of golf has doubled since 2020. There isn't anything good to say about the condition of the course, from tee to green its the worst kept course I've played in my 20 years living in the region. From dry, lumpy, divot laden tee boxes (some lacking much of anything resembling green grass) to the many fairways that barely had strips of green in the middle as well as rough that looked like it had been attacked by hungry goats it wasn't very pleasant on the way to the green. Once on the greens, while they were all green with no rot or disease, they didn't roll true with several putts rolling like a jumpy snake. 2 short eagle putts & similar length birdie putts were missed because the ball rolled like 1 of those trick balls. On top of all this, we had a 5 hour round with occasional lengthy waits & it wasn't the group in front of us as they were always waiting as well.
This once beautiful semi-private course reminded me of a cheap municipal course & since there are too many other courses within the 45 minute drive it took me I'd much rather spend my golfing dollar elsewhere & I'd recommend anyone reading this review do the same.
Challenging
Fairways and greens were is good shape. The weather was very windy which presented a nice challenge. Will definitely play here again.
Always solid
This time of year all courses are more expensive but Crescent Oaks is always solid. Good layout and the small greens keep you on your game.
Good course
Winter is back, and Florida's golf courses are buzzing with activity. If a course isn't busy right now, it might struggle to make it to next year. New owners are really stepping up, keeping things well-maintained and visually appealing. I saw the ranger on Sunday making sure the game flowed smoothly, which shows the staff knows how to keep things running well—something you don’t always see at other courses.
After the rain
The course was pretty much wide open since we teed off right after the rain. Still in good shape. Greens were good, fairways very playable. And,the “hot deals” with Teeoff.com made it very affordable.
