Amazing greens and staff
The staff are fantastic and the grounds are in amazing shape. The pace is good and the campground is an added bonus.
Staff not accommodating at all
The Haunted Lake golf course & campground near Alix Alberta came highly recommended and the golf course didn't disappoint.
However, when we drove in, there was a large sign saying "no rental golf carts allowed in campground". As we were travelling in our motorhome this immediately presented us with a potential problem. We had made weekday campground and tee off reservations in advance and no mention was made of the rule barring rental carts from the campground.
In the hope that some accommodation could be made for the transportation of our clubs to and from the campground we checked in.
The next day, when we went to pay our green fees and pick up the golf cart we weren't reminded of the golf cart rule until after we had paid. There was no assistance offered to us to transport our golf clubs and was told to carry our clubs about 0.5km from our campsite to the clubhouse. We were told other people do it and we would have to as well. Bear in mind we are seniors with some issues.
We requested a refund of our green fees which was immediately denied. On returning to our campsite on foot our campsite neighbors, a lovely couple from Red Deer, Don and Shirley, offered a solution to our predicament and transported our clubs to the clubhouse, setting them up on our rental cart for us.
After we played our 18 holes, we broke the rule and drove the cart back to our campsite site to drop off our clubs and immediately returned the golf cart hoping to avoid detection and a confrontation.
The following day we could not play golf as we had no way of transporting our clubs.
Generally the campground is not well maintained likely due to lack of staff and covid. The fire pits contained garbage, diapers, doogy poop bags, plastics etc., which reflects more on the previous campers than the campground. When we mentioned the state of the fire pits to one of the staff, who was mowing campground grass, he apologised and took care of it immediately.
Given our experience with the cluhouse staff, we will not be returning.
Just wanted to give the heads up for anyone else in a similar situation to ourselves.
Camping attached
A good campground is close to the course. Conditions were great. A number of greens are hidden, so you need to play course more than once to figure it out. Lots of geese and trees to add to your enjoyment
