Wolf Creek Golf Course - Old Course

About
The Old Course is one of two 18-hole courses at Wolf Creek Golf Course. Both courses provide a taste of traditional Scottish golf tucked amongst the rolling hills of central Alberta. While it may have the classic features of an inland links course, the Old Course mixes in a few desert holes to keep golfers on their toes. The course was kept as simple as possible, creating a layout that seamlessly blended with the natural landscape while still creating a challenging game. The immaculate fairways are lined with long native grasses and the greens are large and undulating. Like any good links golf course, there are deep pot bunkers strategically placed throughout.

Course Management
Course management is moving in the right direction, greens were outstanding, tee boxes needs some help but overall far better than a couple of years ago.
Update on Wolf Creek
We were pleased with the condition of the tee boxes, greens and fairways.
Wolf Creek Golf Resort, Old Course
Since it's opening in '84, Wolf Creek's Old Course has consistently ranked as one of the better courses in Alberta & the nation. From the 1st tee onwards you need to pick & choose your lines, learn where not to miss your shots, find the right part of the greens to hit & then if you can follow that with an ability to get a good read on the greens & stroke your putts with precision, you can score well on the Old Course. There are the usual hazards like well placed deep bunkers & just a touch of water but it's the rough & fescue grasses lining these fairways that will beat you up in a hurry if you're not accustomed to giving the course your full attention during the round. Pull into the onsite RV park, make use of the full practice facilities & enjoy an extra spicy Caesar on the deck of the expansive log cabin style clubhouse. In the morning make your way over to the Links Course. You won't go wrong playing either course on offer at Wolf Creek.

Well maintained fairways and greens
Good greens and fairways, some challenging holes with narrow fairways. Bunkers could be quite challenging. Great greens - well maintained.
Over priced
It seems Wolf Creek is relying on some old history. The place is becoming run down. The golf carts were wore out and we had to swap a coupe out after nine holes. The paths have deteriorated to the point they are wrecking the carts. Some of the tee boxes had clover or alfalfa growing in them. They seem worried about keeping the "natural environment" but then had asphalt shingles nailed to creosote railway ties as steps.
There wasn't a starter. There wasn't any information as to the triad location and the flags were not colour coded to aid in position. I assume this is done to make the course more difficult to play. The greens were excellent. The course is getting run down. I will never golf this course for the full price they are asking. Even at a 23% discount there are better valued places to play.
Very good course
I had a great time the course is very challenging.
Best golf experience in Alberta
Living in Red Deer, I've been lucky enough to play the Wolf a number of times over the past few years. It may be tough if your game isn't up to snuff, but it truly is a golf experience like no other. The course is ALWAYS in immaculate shape, the holes are very unique, and it can actually be surprisingly forgiving for a course this tough.
Count on some wind, perfect, rolling greens and playing at least one shot from thick rough...but you'll get a fair test of your game.
