Arbutus Ridge - great golf
Really enjoyed our game at Arbutus Ridge. Every hole is different and challenging. Great views across to the passage.
Only slight issue is when you are in a buggy and the people in front are pulling, as distances between some holes is a long hike and you tend to catch up with them quickly - which means waiting. Not a big issue though.
Stock up
Good course. I'll go again. Shorter with smart plays required. No water fill up, no shack on the course vailable, restaurant opens late so bring your goodies with you for morning tee times. Whacked it all over the place walked 11.5km
Very Disappointed!
We recently played the course and were extremely disappointed.
This used to be a premier course on the south island but no longer!
The greens appeared to have some sort of "mange" on them - very patchy.
The tee boxes were very beat up and extremely hard to put a tee into.
Some of the fairways had a lot of dry patches while others were so waterlogged that you sunk up to your ankles in water.
The sand traps looked like they haven't been worked on in over a month. Some were very gravely and had stones in them.
Won't be back!
Excellent Course and Value
We play this course every year on our circuit of Victoria area courses. We really enjoy the course layout. The elevation changes makes for an excellent walk and exercise and the nature views are great. Conditions were a bit soggy on a couple of holes, but not that bad really. Really appreciate the courtesy power carts at the end to drive back uphill to the club house!
Challenging Vancouver Island Course
Scenic views abound at Arbutus and backdrop a challenging course. Club selection important on dog leg holes while par 5s let you swing freely. Greens are always in great shape and running quickly even Into late November. Course can be soggy after extended rainy periods although better with drainage improvements than has been in the past. Bunkers are undergoing some upgrades as depth of sand/ hardness and drainage inconsistent
Friendly golf shop and lounge personnel. Great food in Satellite Grill.
Best golf value dollar for dollar on Vancouver Island.
Average Golf Course
The course was a component of a package we purchased for golf in BC. Price is an estimate. The warm up range requires you hit from plastic mats, the range balls were very hard and worn out. The course is average, there are many holes with blind shots to the landing area, some of the yardages were difficult to determine. At best I would give the maintenance of the course a B-. We played the course in about 4 hrs, never being more than a shot behind the group of four ladies in front of us. They were in position with the group in front of them as well. This did not prevent the group behind us from hitting into us or near us on multiple occasions. The marshal's response to my request to have the action terminated was "we do have members who like to play lightning fast rounds".
great course
The greens are always in great shape, fast and true. Tee boxes and fairways are also very well kept. Mix of shorter and long holes make scoring always a challenge. Front nine is easier so play well and try to hang on for the back nine. About half of the holes have at least a few houses lining the sides. Great views from a couple holes of Mount Baker and the ocean. Good value for the money.
