Good round of golf!
This course is way up in the hills of Berkeley with amazing views on the way. Really nice looking course as you drive in. I was skeptical about the conditions of the course due to the past storms but fortunately conditions were good. The course is pretty nice overall but the layout can be a bit confusing if you don’t use the scorecard or look on a golf app. Not all holes are visibly marked so I can see people playing the wrong hole or shooting to the wrong green. Tee boxes & greens are very close to each other so keep your head on a swivel. Fairways also run right next to each other & balls would land very close due to mishits. Driver definitely isn’t always in hand even tho the distance might say other. There’s ditches & if you don’t know the layout there goes your ball. Even tho the course is a bit compact & a bit confusing for your first time I’d still come back. It’s still a fun & nice looking course. Prices ain’t to bad either.
A Challenge For Casuals
My first time playing Tilden came less than a week after the rain had passed, but the wind remained. The first hole is a daunting uphill slog, but a par is within reach. Tilden twists and turns from that point on and presents a handful of challenging dog-leg shots. If you’re walking this course, say a prayer for your calves, but it can be an excellent workout. The greens were well maintained and the fairways weren’t chewed up. The maintenance crew had the course in great shape after a stormy couple weeks. I’d recommend this course to any golfer looking to test their mettle.
Course was better under original management
I am a local and this course to used to be A LOT better under its original management. Staff was more friendly and course was in better shape. Not worth the money to play and additional cost for a cart. Course plays EXTREMELY slow (5-6 hours). Play early if you have time.
First time playing the course. I was impressed with the course and the conditions were good. The pace on the greens was very slow and a lil bumpy, but overall very good condition.
Fun day at Tilden
Got paired up with 3 other singles all good guys. Very enjoyable round but just a bit slow.
Love seeing the wild animals on this course!
One of the main attractions for me in playing this course is that usually you'll see a Coyote down around the 14th hole, deer, turkeys, voice responsive Blue Jays, and a variety of other critters. The course is in good shape in spite of the cold, slow greens and a white tee slope of 124.
Kart fees
I was disappointed that you charged me cart fees for 2 players and it was kart path only for the entire course, that was not mentioned when booking the round online.
Interesting up/down layout, but small course, conditions not great
Beautiful area and interesting layout, with a lot of up and down holes, but tee boxes are all jammed in, I've never heard so many people yell fore in a golf course. In the back 9, you're pretty much teeing off less than 10 yards yards away from the greens, and most left/right misses are dangerous. I usually don't worry about safety at all, but felt uneasy a few times. Also, the course has no signs, at times it was hard to know where to go and where to tee off from; a bunch of tee boxes are "blind", and you can't see them from the cart paths. I often had to hike up to see if I was at the right tees. Conditions were fair; fairways were very uneven, and some greens were dry and impossible to put on. Tee boxes were all destroyed.
Over booked, slow pace
Golfed on a Thursday at 12:40. I expected decent pace of play based on time of day and because there were plenty of open tee times open. One of the slowest rounds I’ve ever played. I saw the Marshall one time the whole round and didn’t see him talk to the “very slow” group in front of us.
Beverage cart was out, which was a pleasant surprise and she was very polite and came around often.
2 younger male employees who I assume were the cart guys were smokin and jokin and skreeching the carts to a stop right behind the 1st tee box.
The course was in decent shape, one green was closed which was not advertised. The greens were inconsistent due to some having sand still from recent aeration (this was advertised).
Still one of the more scenic/beautiful courses in the area and the price is fair.
Fix the putting greens and tee boxes
Love everything about the course EXCEPT the putting greens and thrashed tee boxes (everyone one of them). Played there in June the greens were perfect however ridiculously slow. This last outing, punched, sanded, dead spots everywhere on every putting green and still ridiculously slow. No decent golfer would tolerate such awful putting greens on an otherwise great course.
Greens are deplorable
Practically every golf course in the Bay area are aerating their greens right now and Tilden Park is no exception, except for the fact that the greens are in the worst shape I've seen. Bare patches and spots, sand, shaggy and bumpy untrue rolls are what you can expect right now. I'd wait at least a couple of weeks until they get get them somewhat in order - it may take a lot longer - they are in really tough shape. I like the tough layout through the trees and rolling hills - it's often hard to find a flat lie on some holes! Play in a month or two would be my suggestion at this point and time.
Couldn’t see anything
Foggy pretty much the entire round. Couldnt see 15 feet in front of us. Played 90% of the round hoping we wouldn’t get hit by a ball since it was so foggy and since it was first time playing no clue where greens were and they were punched.
Terrible greens
I played Tilden several times and rated a 4-Star. My low rating this time is largely due to lousy condition of the greens. Apparently they just punch them and filled holes with sand. They were damaged, rough, extremely irregular, and have large areas with no grass at all. They were not suitable for any level of play. Also the tee boxes were not mowed and I needed a 3” tee so the ball.can clear the grass. The course should have been closed.
