Applewood Golf Course

About
The public, 18-hole Applewood Golf Course is a popular golf destination for families. The course is 5,992 yards, playing to a par of 71. The course is located in Golden, against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The course opened in 1961 and was designed by J. Press Maxwell. Maxwell wanted to maintain the natural beauty of the landscape and he successfully incorporated it into elements of the course. Another trace of Applewood Golf Course's scenic appeal is in the wildlife that is often spotted by golfers. The golf course has slight elevation changes as well as water hazards but it is still suitable for all levels of golfers.

OVERPRICED FOR CONDITIONS
$50 IS WAY TO HIGH FOR THIS COURSE!! CLUBHOUSE IS NICE BUT WAY OVER DUE. IF THEY WOULD JUST DO BETTER AT KEEPING THE GROUNDS CLEANED UP OF DEAD BRANCHES AND THE CART PATH'S THAT WOULD BE A START!!
Save applewood
Applewood is one of my favorite courses in the denver area. It is perfect for walking with an old school design and no houses lining the fairways. And even on a busy Sunday the pace of play was pretty good.
I sincerely hope the "save applewood" effort is successful and we have many more seasons to enjoy this local gem!
Save the wood
Play the wood - save the wood
It would be a shame to loose this little gem to developers
There's a huge old turtle that lives by #8
Fun mid-century layout.
While a little rough around the edges this course is at its core is a fun mid-century layout. The views are phenomenal with the Flatirons, Lookout mountain, north and south table, and Golden in view.
Very nice facility
Was very pleased with my experience at applewood golf course in golden. Staff was very friendly and professional. Course was in great shape and very challenging dog legs with some elevation change. Will definitely recommend to friends and family. Will also return to enjoy this course again.
applewood
The overall experience was a pleasure, it was a little slow on the front nine but it evened out on the back nine. The course itself was very nice and we'll maintained.
pers, opinion
took five hours to play 18 holes--- they need a ranger on course to keep golfers moving other wise okay public facility
Very pretty views
I would play this course again. It was in very nice shape and had some challenging holes. Very interesting layout.
Poor Course for the money
You would be better served spending your $50.00 at another course. Poor pace of play, maintenance was fine, but 6,100 yards is crazy short.
3 hour 9 holes
9:00 tee time for 18 holes. The first time we saw the marshall was heading down nine fairway. At 12:00, when we made the turn, we went into the pro shop and complained about pace. The gentleman in the shop explained that there was a slow group about five ahead of us and offered a nine-hole rain check. Being from out of town, that was not going to work for us. He understood that as well and refunded us for a nine-hole rate. If you decide to play, boxes are sloped and greens are more sloped! Enjoy and bring a sandwich! It's going to be a long one!
Applewood Thoughts
we sure enjoyed playing at your course beautiful views friendly staff great course conditions. we're looking forward to playing many more times. Hope that you will be open many years to come. Thank you
Great conditions for a public course
Got a incredible deal from GolfNow $15, no waiting they let us tee off at check in, no one behind us and fast play in front. Greens were in great condition and fairways well groomed. It was rainy and the ground a little wet but great day of golf, the golf gods were smiling this day.
Excellent value and friendly, efficient staff
The course is nice and the views are outstanding! The staff was really great!
Good course for all levels
I played this course for the first time when I was 12 years old in 2005, again in 2009, and played as an Associate member during the summer of 2015. The atmosphere at this course is the best I have found in the United States. Very friendly staff, helpful in every way, and members/locals are always entertaining to be around and play with.
The course can play quite challenging depending on the weather and pin locations, but is great for all abilities. I enjoyed playing it almost every day during the summer of 2015.
I hope to return to the area to play at this course, and it is worth noting that the friendliness of the staff is a big reason in that.
Pace of play
I was the last one standing in my group. 1 walked off on the 10th, A couple on the 11h. Hot slow walk around the park
Greens and tee boxes
The greens and tee boxes were in worse shape than any course I played during the winter.
Off day for applewood
Great rate but after that it was almost unplayable. Not the courses fault that they aerated but why not mow the fairway? It was like hitting from the light rough on the back nine (which we played first). But they opened the front during our round so we played it and the fairways were beautifully mowed. Worst if all was the group ahead of us. Pointed out to the ranger that they were progressively falling further behind. By the end they were 3 holes behind. This is a nice little track usually. Just too many issues even for a great got deal price.
Reasoable Course
It was nice weather but poor course condition.
I had good time though and good deal for rate.
It good warming up in December.
Great course for high handicap
I thoroughly enjoyed this course, I played very well because it is extremely forgiving. there are a few challenging holes, four instance, the ninth hole hitting overwater on a par three.

This course has a decent layout, and for the most part it's in pretty good shape. Also, there are some very scenic holes to enjoy. However, we were waiting on too many tees to hit. In one case we had to wait through 2 foursomes before we got to tee off. They have Marshals on this course but they were not speeding up the play too well. The worst part is this was on a weekday not a weekend. My tee off time was 11:39 and I finished play after 4:30. Also the refreshment cart could have made more trips than it did. I only saw it twice that day.
