Terrible Fairways
Another course ruined by Golf North's tendancy to scalp their fairways. I can only think that this is done in a effort to reduce maintenance by stunting the growth of the grass and reduce the frequency of cutting. The fairways on this course were always in good condition but since Golf North has assumed management of this course, the fairways are sparce, bare in spots and weed filled. The carts limp along and are in poor condition. I would no longer recommend this course to a friend.
Well kept
Cost of the rounds at this course is getting on the high side in comparison to other courses in the area. The restaurant staff although pleasant were somewhat limited and the cost again for what was offered is high for the product, need to offer better value.
Reliable middle of the road course.
Ironwood has some great holes and nice rolling fairways with decent elevation changes. They have recently improved drainage and added new irrigation on a few fairways. Some of the tees could use leveling and some of the greens should be expanded as many have very skinny sections. The short par 4 12th hole is my favourite but there are many more good holes than average holes. The conditioning is to be expected at the price point, tees a bit hairy, greens a bit thatchy and collars not too tight. I enjoy playing here.
Great Track, worth a trip
Came from Waterloo to try some new courses and was pleasantly surprised by both the layout and conditions.
Assuming more of a farmland type course due to the location, this couldn't be farther from the truth. We were delighted by the course design the more holes we played: mature trees, unique shaped greens, and a variety in hole shapes and elevations. No two holes were the same and the layout made you use most of the clubs in your bag. An enjoyable feature was the individuality of each hole - the course is spread on a big plot of land and each hole felt unique and not crammed in tightly. I only heard one fore call during the day likely as a result of most holes not running too close to adjacent holes. The layout felt like that of a private club.
The conditions were fantastic. Lush and green with minimal brown as expected with the wet summer this year. Even so, the upkeep is clearly there. The greens rolled pure and quick, especially when compared to most Golf North countryside courses. Majority of the greens have slopes and breaks to read.
Pace of play was appreciated on what appeared to be a busy day. As a speedy twosome of walkers, we had 3 other twosomes let us play through at somepoint and were only forced to wait for the foursome ahead on holes 15-18. Total time of play was 3:10 so no complaints.
Overall it is certainly a hidden gem that I'm surprised I hadn't heard of from anyone else. Worth the drive if you're in the area.
Great course!
We got out early so no waiting but it was getting busy after we were done. The weather is fantastic and everyone wants to get the last games of the season in! Thanks Ironwood for for a great day on the links!!
November round
5 hours ... waiting on every tee. Good layout, and Considering playing in Movember, course was in good shape. Hit a tree on long par 3 #7, looking for ball 2 feet from pond and steppied into a hole, up to my knee....couldn’t see it because of leaves...home icing knee now. No Porto potty’s... women beware:)
Good course
Nice course and was in great condition. Will return
Poor pace of play
The course was in good shape but pace of play was poor need a ranger out there to wave ppl through or tell ppl to get moving
