Roy Kizer Golf Course

About
This is a 36-hole city-owned operation that features one of Austin's best muni tracks, the Roy Kizer Golf Course, which complements the 1970s Jimmy Clay layout.
Austin's old water treatment facility was transformed by Randy Russell, who had more than 80 acres of lakes and marshland at his disposal when he laid out the 200-acre site. Russell's links-style design is flat, burdened by the wind, and loaded with bunkers. The toughest par is No. 11, which rolls 468 yards into the wind and is shamefully listed as a par 4. Take your bogey on No. 11.

This is Andy. He's in sales and is somehow always 'working' when we're playing golf. He can almost never be tagged on a Facebook golf course check-in during a weekday. He's 'working.' So here's proof that he was out with us playing golf yet again. :) Photo submitted by GordonATX on 09/08/2018

Great winter condition Photo submitted by jimpham on 01/07/2017
Perfect Afternoon
Had a great afternoon round on Kizer. Play was at a good pace and the course was in very nice condition.
Great Time
I am fairly new to Golf. This was the best course I've played so far. For the money, most enjoyable course I've been to.
Didnt play
Due to unexpected circumstances. We were not able to play.
Can I get a refund or credit for a future round?
Thanks
Kizer
It was a cold day . My brother and I wer ed teamed up with another twosome . Had a good time
Austin Vibes
Love coming back home and seeing this course in great shape. It was great seeing the same amazing staff members still there.
Good Muni
Check-in person was very nice, helpful, and friendly. Layout was good in a links-like style. Fairways in good shape with grass; some roughs had hardpan. Bunkers were firm. Greens rolled true, but were fairly slow. Tee boxes were level. Given that it is a muni, no surprise that there were unfilled divots all over the fairways and tee boxes, as well as un-repaired ball marks on the green, and sand traps not raked; not sure golfers will ever take the time to do what is right for those golfers behind them. No cart person was visible the entire round. Pace of play was 4:15. Overall, an average experience for a muni.
Best shape in a long time
First time playing kizer this year. Grass was green everywhere, and thick too. Recent rains have helped so it’s a good time to get out here. The greens have been over seeded and it has taken very well. There are no bald spots on anywhere. Truly impressed.
With that, there is so much friction on the ball while putting on these greens. The over seed will slow your ball speed and take out a lot of break. Play it like a dart board on approach and putting. Makes for good scoring opportunities.
Very forgiving course, easy to score
Course was in good shape overall, on the drier side so everything rolled out a little more. Wide fairways and no trees, with large greens and accessible pin locations it was easier to get near the hole for birdies. Little slow for this kind of course, took 4.5 hours Thursday afternoon
Kizer in December
Still the best muni in Austin. Greens in good shape
Nice layout
I payed a hotdeal price on golfnow so it was totally worth it. The greens could use mowing cause they were slow and normally they are fast greens in that course. Overall great condition, glad to be able to play this course again.
Good alternative to club course
Kizer was in good shape and easily playable. Pace of play could be better but it is a public course with lots of players. Definitely a good test especially with wind blowing.
Great Golf Experience
We spend 2 weeks each year visiting our son in Austin. Every year we come here as a must stop. First the staff inside & Jon on the course were friendly & showed true TX hospitality. The course is scenic, challenging and made it feel like a linx . The fairways & greens were in very good condition. If you took a little time on greens they ran true even with several levels on them. Pace of play was great, 3:42. All I can say is thanks & see you next year.
