The Hills Signature Course
My first visit to the The Hills of Lakeway Country Club was to play a scramble tournament on the Hills Signature Course, the best I am told of the clubs four courses.
The course is in a residential community and the layout is over rolling hills with elevation changes, lots of trees, wide fairways, and excellently located hazards.
We played the blue tees but I will tell you sometimes they played as the tips and sometimes played up front. The wind was blowing and this caused many holes to play long.
The greens were in great condition and rolled true and fast.
This is a private club and you need a member to play it. I am looking forward to a return trip to play my own round.
Good mixture of elements.
This course is nice -- especially during the spring and early summer. You should play it given the opportunity. I do like how they have you tee off and/or hit over the creek/pond a few times. It adds a little something extra into your swing thought. There are several opportunities to find water on this course with the creek winding through it. They also pump the water around to keep it going year round.
On the waterfall hole, take an extra half to full club. See all those balls in the water below the hole? Don't be that guy. Make sure you get over the deal with whatever presents itself.
And I believe it's #18 that has an elevated green. I can't say I like this hole. Nothing like basically hitting blind to a green -- especially your last one for the day. First off, make sure you get it up there. And avoid the left side where your ball can find jail, etc.
While the driving range is fine, I do not care for their putting green. It has such extreme undulation for part of it that it kind of defeats the purpose of warming up and getting ready for your round. Nothing like frustrating players right before they tee off for a round.
