Cross Timbers Golf Course

About
Cross Timbers rolls over rocky and rugged terrain, offering spectacular views that resemble the Hill Country. Jeff Brauer’s design is loaded with trees and features numerous pot bunkers, as well as a significant amount of water.
The elevated tee helps make the 165-yard No. 7 one of the best–it plays to a green fronted by bunkers and lined with rocks in the back.
Other notes: Remember the Texas farmer who graced the fairways of the Senior Tour in the mid-1990s? His name was Robert Landers, and Cross Timbers was his home course.
Getting there : Take Hwy. 820 north from Fort Worth. When you come to Hwy. 199 (Jacksboro Hwy.), turn west. Travel 10 miles to Stewart St. and turn left. The course is 1.5 miles and the entrance is on the left.

Not Worth the drive
At 50 dollars to play it does not look like the course is properly maintained. Starting with the Tee boxes, I was literally standing on a tire rut/hole on one. No grass even on Tee boxes. Granted weather has not ideal but how can others in the area be in far better shape than this one?
I noticed one and only one water
Jug in all back nine. Cart girl came around once. Cart itself turned completely off when driven one yard off cart path. Greens have mowed down weeds on them. No grass on 18th fairway causing ball to roll completely off slanted fairway into water. Will never be back to this so called golf course.
Will Be Back For Sure
Cross Timbers is always a pleasant course to play. Elevation changes, not too difficult but still very challenging. The course was in great shape, greens true and fast, fairways awesome, great bunkers. Friendly staff, had a beverage cart even with the covid situation. My only suggestion for the course is that they should change the color of the flags to mark the pin position. They use black and navy blue flags, a little confusing from a distance. Other than that, it’s a great course and a good value.
Greens are airated
The greens have been aerated as of Aug 12 . May want to avoid for a couple of weeks.
Greens not up to par
Great course. Great condition until you get to the greens. They are fair to good which is not what you would expect from Cross Timbers. They are usually exceptional. Bring the greens in and water the course.
Cross Timbers ** Second Chance
It was a beautiful day for February Golf. Was able to secure a 10:57 tee time for only $26, so I decided to give Cross Timbers another shot.
Tee Boxes: A little firm but in great shape.
Fairways: In really good shape considering its winter
Bunkers: Firm but nicely raked
Greens: In great shape, held the ball nicely and roll smooth and quick.
Play Time: Took about 3.75hrs, thankfully a slower group had let us play through at hole 3 and it was smooth sailing after that. Spoke to the marshal a little bit on hole 16 while we were waiting for the group in front to finish up on the green. He said that there was a huge bottle neck about 3 groups back.
They had a cart girl running but only saw her once through the whole round.
I was much more impressed with how things went this time around and will be back.
Great time to play
The course is in transition already. The greens are coming in nicely. The fairways are mainly dormant but there is some green coming in. The course is in great shape.
Great wether for Christmas Eve
The course is in great shape. The greens are awesome and they played pretty quick. Great roll and good speed for this time of the year. The course looks great. The weather was warm and by the back nine the sun was out. The pro shop staff is very friendly. The restaurant staff is just as nice. You can always play for a reasonable price.
Great shape after all of the rain
We played today after all of the rain. It was cart path only so we had the course to ourselves. The course is in great shape. There are leaves but that is everywhere this time of year. The greens are in great shape and are fast. The wind added to the challenge as well as playing in our first real cold spell. The course is worth the money.
A great place to play!
The course was great. It is rarely busy but it was real busy yesterday before the holiday. Course is in great condition but the greens show a lot of traffic and scars from that traffic. Over all it is a great place to play and is worth the value you pay to play. The greens are a real challenge to read and play.
Cross Timbers
Decided to play this course spur of the moment on labor day. My amazing fiance asked I wanted to play a new course and 2 hours later we were at Cross Timbers.
The good:
The course layout was nice, and I love the elevated tee boxes. The greens were in great shape. The pace of play was nice finished in just under 4 hours.
The bad:
It was a hot day, I didn't see not 1 cart girl and all of the coolers were bare dry. I had to send my fiance all of the way back to the club house for drinks. At the end, it would have been nice if the gentleman in the club house would have given us a heads up if they were short staffed or recommended we take drinks. When we got to holes 16 and 17 there was a very foul smell in the air, possibly due to the creek that runs parallel to them. The creek was packed with trash. I had high hopes when I arrived and left never wanting to return.
The only reason I'm giving this course 3 stars is because the layout is nice.
This course is well maintained!
I've been playing this course since the day it opened. It is now in the best condition ever. The staff is first rate. The club house has nice food choices at reasonable prices. I have played golf since 1958 in many states and would recommend Cross Timbers to anyone who wants an enjoyable course, not to long with wide fairways and beautiful greens. It is located in a small town with little traffic and good weather year round. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!
Great shape
This is a fun course to play. I love the challenge of the greens. They are receptive to a good iron shot and pretty fast. They are deceptive in reading the putts. They are fair and usually pretty smooth. The par threes are great. The part 5s can be long and short. The part 4G are a good challenge as well. The fairways have some angles so you have to put your drives on the right side of the fairway to have a good next shot. This is a great course to play. They have good deals from time to time.
Cross Timbers has the best Greens to play on!
Cross Timbers has the best greens to play on. They are usually fast and resemble what the Pros play. This is the best part of the course. The course is short on some hole but you have to know where you can miss or you will be in the rough or in the trees. When you put together the wind, the challenging greens and the slanted fairways you soon find out that you entire golf game is being tested. Remember to aim for the bird houses that are on each hole. They are you target from the tee box. This is a truly hidden gem. It is a great test of your skills and make sure to bring your A game.
Good, challenging course
Course was in good shape for mid-May. It has been raining substantially lately so the course was really green and wet. The greens were in good shape besides a few exceptions where it look like they had just been worked on.
The course is slightly difficult. I do not get to play nearly as much as I'd like but the varying dimensions and hills can cause some havoc. I only remember one or two water hazards. Hole 18 has one that runs along the entire left side.
Food was also good. They have a small grill and I got the grilled chicken breast sandwich. I do recommend.
This course is very challenging
I was very pleased with the reception of the course staff and the friendly way we were treated all day. It was a very challenging course with the tight fairways and hard rough, was very fun to play. Had a great time
Fivesomes?
Letting out fivesomes on a Friday is not a good idea, especially two groupes in a row! Beyond that, the course is getting better, the greens are coming along since early June. Fairways are in good shape and this is a fun track with some challenging holes.
A great hot deal....
It's a challenging course with a couple of unique holes, there is a stretch where several holes look just alike,, greens are always hard and very fast..
Always a fun place to play, but a really good deal on a hot deal.....
Clint
Some greens had a few parts or patches that were obviously being worked on or recently replaced. The hole locations worked around those spots, and the great majority of all greens were exceptional! I think the course was in as good a shape as ever.
Greens need work
This is a nice course but the greens were not in good shape. This is the worst I have seen them some were dirt and weeds.
