Great Course
Stonebridge is a great track. I play this 15 or so times per year. The course plays short but is still challenging as most greens are elevated and you need to deal with undulations on the greens (and the fairways). It is built in a community so you need to be accurate off the tee and take an extra club (at least ) for you second shot. Greens are well protected by bunkers and are firm. This course can provide a higher handicapper with a significant challenge but I recommend it for anyone who plays golf regularly. If it is your first time play somewhere else.
I would say this is in the top 3 public courses in Ottawa area along with The Marshes and eQuinelle (further out of town).
For me they are all tied for #1 depending on the game you want to play as each course sets up differently.
Good conditions, interesting greens
I was not expecting great things when going to a course built around a subsivision. The fact that the driving range was eliminated to build a few more houses definitely put me off at the beginning. The overall layout was good. The rough off of the fairways was thick and challenging to get out of. The greens were well protected with bunkers and had some interesting topography on them. One had to have a good short game to avoid being on wrong level of the green. The green speed was moderate and the pin placements fair. These greens had a lot of placements which could have caused some nasty scores.
The houses did not come into play as they were well set back from holes. Overall a very pleasant walk.
Florida anyone??
If you enjoy modern, non-traditional golf courses built in suburban subdivisions then Stonebridge is for you!
The course features large, undulating greens. Most are well protected by bunkers and slightly elevated from the fairway. Try to play with someone with local knowledge of the track, or determine to the best of your ability where large swales are located on the greens so that you can always attempt to leave your approach on the ‘right side of the pin’.
