Extremely Slow
Love playing this course but the pace of play was painful. No course marshalls to be seen anywhere. Not to mention the beverage cart and halfway house close around 6pm. So many golfers are still on the course. They need to extend the hours.
No Amenities at all
They charge a "covid" premium price and wouldn't let us in early to hit balls. They let some people hit balls so I don't understand whats going on. Last year they provided water and range balls for less money and at least allowed you to sit and have a beer after. Now they don't have anywhere to sit and make you leave after the round. Very disappointing/
Strategic course
A great course for true golfers. Always in great shape. If you score well at this track, you have had a good day.
Very good
Good walking course and the sausage dog is excellent. Although it is packed on Sunday but we enjoyed it very much. Sunset view was amazing.
WG review
Excellent course, however only at the discounted rates on golf now. Not worth the normal rates. Cart girls are all awesome girls.
GT
No value here
If you enjoy long rounds behind ignorant foursomes and putting on garbage greens then this is the place for you.
I used to really like Watson's, couldn't care less about having no facilities, the course is in rough shape and not nearly worth the money they ask. Better options are out there.
Watsons Glen
Course was in decent shape. Awful place to play golf.
Ina Friday afternoon the pace was so slow it took 47 minutes to get to the third tee. The foursome in front were partying and couldn't care less. We called the pro shop to ask for a solution and were told there was nothing he could do as he was all alone and no-one could Marshall. One employee on a Friday afternoon?
The snack bar was non existent although there was a microwave available if you brought your own. Thought I was on candid camera. Brutal!
Fond memories
I haven't played this course in 8 years, but the memories came flooding back how much I enjoyed it. Course conditions were excellent. No complaints in any area.
Played on a very windy day
The wind conditions of the day made the course extremely challenging compared to normal The course is in excellent shape and the greens were rolling true. Good value for the money
Nice challenging track
Tough around and on the green, but not overly difficult. Course was in very good condition and we enjoyed the hot summer afternoon round.
Good
Good quality course with bare bones facilities. Will go back once a year.
Just Too Slow
We played on a Wednesday late afternoon at 3:10 thinking there should be no reason at all why we shouldn't cruise through the round at a regular pace.
Wrong... We waited on every hole- every shot! We looked at our watches after we hit our approach shot to the 16th green and noted it was approaching 5hrs. Then we looked at the tee box on 17 and saw 2 groups waiting to tee off. At this point we said forget it and heading for the parking lot.
Haven't played Watsons in a few years and after this, it'll be a few years more. Wednesday afternoon- just too slow!
Not as easy as you think
Played with a couple of members and really enjoyed it. Course was in great shape but the greens we're a bit slower then usual apparently. Pace of play was a bit slow due to a twosome in front of us who were all over the place. For a 12 handicap I benefit a lot from a couple errant tee shots which allowed me to still save par easily. The greens are a lot harder to read then you would expect. A lot of the lines you would expect on certain putts don't even come close to what you actually saw, so be aware.
I'd definitely recommend this course as I think it's a but underpriced considering the condition it's in.
Best course in Durham
Great fairways
Great layout
Great greens
Great place
Pace
Overall a great course, the amount of rain that we have gotten seems to have affected a few sand traps but they are doing everything possible to remedy that.
It was disappointing to have such a long round behind some very, very slow players.
Very good outing
An excellent day at Watson's Glen, weather, course conditions and pace of play. Would do it a lot more often if it was priced more reasonable. Especially for seniors on weekdays and weekends.
Sandy First Round
This was my 1st time at WG and 1st round of the year. Since it was May, the greens were not fully recovered from the start of the year aerating session. The layout was great, with a few challenging holes & great views. I was stuck in the sand for the majority of the day, but luckily it was good quality & easy to maneuver. My playing partner wasn't too happy when there wasn't anyone manning the halfway house at the turn.....apparently not getting a tuna sandwich after 9 holes ruins the remainder of his round. I would recommend this course in the off-season, but would probably not pay the premium in peak season.
