Needs work.
A lot of money put into the track man hitting facility but none on the course for a long time now. Sandy tee boxes and dry fairways with bare spots for a few years now.
fiar price for a hot deal
To put it briefly. Staff was great, no cart girl which wasn't ideal but we're just now getting into the busy season so it was a 50/50 shot to begin with. Tee boxes were acceptable, fairways were nice for coming out of winter, greens were responsive and fast but a bit bumpy. I think by mid April this course will be primed and ready to go. 8/10 overall will def be back.
Not right now.
No grass, sandbox tees, mud and sand fairways. Needs some time for grass to grow. Pace was over 5 hours. Just not worth the drive, price or effort right now. So many courses in better shape.
Not worth playing right now
Read the reviews and decided to make the hour drive to play SOuthern Oaks. Bad decision. There is almost no grass anywhere on this course. The greens have some, mostly Poa, but the tee boxes and fairways have very little at all. Several tee boxes are 100% sand (ever try to hit driver while standing in sand?). The 20+mph winds didn't help the game, dropping temps and dirty air only added to the misery. We stopped playing after 15 holes and 4:10 with three groups on one tee box. Never so happy to see the car when we drove in.
They look like they are TRYING to grow some grass, but right now it is mostly a sand and mud pit. Give it a while, definitely not worth the trip, price or effort right now.
Needs some work
I felt like the course wasn’t in very good condition.i was totally shocked at the women’s tee boxes, most were all sand, I’d over-seed with winter rye. I know it’s early spring, but fairways were bare dirt in many spots. No bathrooms on course, no problem for guys, lots of trees, but none for the ladies. And they built a nice covered Bay Area, but none for restrooms, you have to drive all the was around the event center, to go back to the pro shop. Bought a beer and it was tepid at best. Also , tons of broken tees all over the tee box, more than I have seen at any course, just looked trashy. I was very disappointed, hate to leave a bad review, but not an enjoyable experience…
Needs TLC
Apparently it’s impossible to put a box on the tee boxes for broken tees, greens were in good condition fairways and tee boxes were bad
Nice layout
Greens were really nice, tee boxes were bad and fairways below average apparently in Texas they don’t put a small box by the tee blocks for broken tees every course Has tees all over the tee boxes
Not enough grass
I understand winter golf but there are just too many bare spots of hard pack clay and sand. The tees are practically all sand. The greens aren’t bad for winter conditions. Let’s see how well it comes back in the spring/summer. Pace of play was really poor with the group in front leaving st least a hole open in front of them. Price was good which is probably why pace of play was so poor.
Great layout. Nice course. Nice range and amenities. Good price on drinks! Will play again for sure.
Working on it
Course was in unusually rough condition on the tee box’s and fairways even for winter golf l; but it does seem like that are working on it. Cutting lots of trees down for sun exposure and sanded fairways tee box ‘s and greens.
It will be solid again in the spring!!
Souther Oaks... a pleasure to play
Souther Oaks was a nice find for me. It has the feel of some Arkansas courses I play. Friendly, yet challenging. Great course value for the money.
