5 Star Course in a 5 star town
Having gone to college at Black Hills State University I am a little bias.. but this course is truly amazing. There is frequent and dramatic elevation change. The course is always in the best shape and has a great pace of play. There are a few holes that are pretty straight forward and nothing really to marvel at but by a few I literally mean like 3. The new back nine is very creative. It has a great mix of uphill, downhill, blind shots, and even an amazing hole that carves through a small canyon. Fantastic course, spend the money and stop and play.
Newest Course in the Black Hills
This is the newest course in the Black Hills. First several years this course offered a great 9hole experience but with the recently constructed back 9 this course is a MUST PLAY in the Black Hills. The course now runs over 7300 and has an amazing amount of topography. If you choose to walk 18 you are in for a great experience that will bring you some fantastic views of the Northern Black Hills. The course is well layer out to provide great opportunities as making or saving par. The uphill and downhill shots shots that you experience on this course make a challenging shots. Late summer and early spring can bring on some heavy winds that will make some of these holes play extra long and challenging for most golfers.
The club house and pro shop are fantastic facilities with great and knowledgeable staff. The electric carts and on course amenities are top notch and have been developed to bring a superior golf experience. The practice facility is a great and well taken care of with everything you need to prep your game as well as a putting green that replicates greens on the course.
The only downside to this golf course is that it is split by interstate 90 and at times that noise can take away from the experience and a great golf experience.
Spearfish Canyon
Spearfish Canyon Country Club is a great city run course in Spearfish South Dakota. The course runs through residential areas and provides some fantastic views to both Spearfish Canyon and the Black Hills. The course is always well maintained with finely mowed fairways and greens and healthy cut roughs. Is plays nice with strategically placed bunkers. The bunkers throughout the course could use some work as they are usually finely picked with a less then desirable sand type. This is the only disappointing part of this course. The rest of the course is easily walkable and should be experience walking the hills ungulate to provide a great course with lots of topography changes.
The club house and bar and grill are ok facilities that could use an upgrade to compare the course to the off course facilities. The practice facility is the negative for this course. The facilities lake any character and aesthetics for golfers. The putting green is flat and we have found that it is not maintained to the same quality as the on course greens.
Great location, with great views!!
Everything was done well and on time.
Facility's were very nice, with great service.
Beautiful views... Great condition
Excellent staff, JR was excellent
Best Staff Ever
Cindy, Jeremy (golf pro), and Trevor (greensmen) were all excellent to talk to about golf and were extremely polite and helpful. Good golf feel about the place. If you are out to have fun and play a challenging round, this is the course for you.
Purchased golf shoes, hat and was given free advice on playing the course and made my first time playing a full course in 7 years an enjoyable experience.
Other golf clubs should model their staff after these three.
EXCELLENT!!! A MUST PLAY!!!
The views of the Black Hills from Spearfish are beautiful!
Giving Spearfish Golf Club a Run for their $$$
Great facilities for a new course. Staff very friendly. A bit steep, pricewise for a new course but when the 2nd 9 goes in it'll rival any in the area! Great value on GolfNow!
Fun and challenging course
There are some fun holes on this course. The greens were fast and true. And the scenery was fantastic.
Pace of play a deal breaker
until this course completes their back 9(scheduled for late summer of 2016), I wold not recommend playing here. the pace of play is maddening. it is especially bad when you turn for your second 9 if you play 18. turn times and start times aren't organized and lead to a terrible log jam, every time I've ever played 18 here. I would recommend playing early in the day and only playing 9 if you go.
Shot makers course
An excellent 9-hole hillside course that stresses accurate iron play. . The greens are generous but well sloped so ball placement on approach is paramount. The views from the elevated holes are spectacular. The staff is very friendly and professional.
